The musical piece was initially composed at the behest of the flautist, Dr. Robert David Billington. In this recording, he performs it on a flute crafted by Richard Hahn, replicating a Heinrich Grenser model from the late 18th century. The flute, made of ebony, is tuned to A=415 hz, corresponding to Ab in today's pitch. The composition consists of four sections in D major, with the exception of the second movement which is in D harmonic minor. The rhythm follows a pattern of Slow-Fast-Slow-Fast across the movements.
