This composition was crafted in 1999 for a global quartet contest, aiming to musically represent the visions seen in three paintings by Edvard Munch. The composer dedicated it to his wife, Rayna. 1. The Scream - Moderato - This movement is divided into 51 sections to reflect the 51 iterations of The Scream. It loosely follows the form of a sonata, with the development primarily focusing on texture. The movement revolves around a chord composed of open fifths that are a major third apart.
