SROI, improvisation for single reed oboe

Drake Mabry showcases an improvisation (known as SROI or single reed oboe improvisation) on a standard Loree oboe. The instrument is equipped with a petite single reed mouthpiece, crafted in France during the 1920s by Chedeville. These mouthpieces were initially designed for young learners without easy access to an oboe tutor and for jazz performers. Around 1927, Don Redman recorded a solo with the Fletcher Henderson orchestra using one of these mouthpieces. Mr. Mabry discovered around 30 original single reeds from the 1950s, some of which remained playable.
