This meditative composition was initially designed for a tuba and euphonium quartet, having been sponsored and performed by Tubalate. It has now been reimagined for a string quartet. The central themes are a progression of transforming chords symbolizing the act of falling asleep and the age-old chant, "Te lucis ante terminum" (To thee before the end of the day...), which is referenced throughout the piece, especially from the 20th bar forward. The chant implores the Creator of all things to guard us with usual kindness as we retreat from consciousness.
