(MP3) Aki - Vocalise for Soprano and Piano - Opus 4

The Soprano and Piano piece, Aki Vocalise, Opus 4, received its title from my spouse, Yumi. The term 'Aki' translates to 'autumn' in Japanese. She perceived feelings of isolation and a longing for fall in Japan within the composition, accurately mirroring the sentiment I intended to convey. The delicate vocalise, a melody without words, revolves around two primary themes: a straightforward, sorrowful melody that symbolizes loneliness and bookends the piece, and a second, more foreboding melody that incorporates elements of Chopin's Funeral March.
