Winner of the 2017 Music Association of California Community Colleges (MACCC) Composition Contest The piece begins subtly with a high-pitched 12-tone row from the first violin. Gradually, other string instruments join in, and with the introduction of the clarinet, the composition diverges into multiple unique sections. Each of these sections has its own flavor, sometimes echoing the original row, sometimes introducing unexpected turns. Following the development's climax into a dramatic and disconcerting crescendo, the initial theme resumes.
