Blow the Wind Southerly: Idyll (wind quintet)

This is a unique musical piece for a wind quintet, inspired by two traditional Northumbrian tunes: Blow the Wind Southerly and When the Boat Comes In. The melody is shared among all the individual instruments, not just limited to the flute. When the Boat Comes In serves as a counter melody in the composition. The piece aims to emulate the English Pastoral Style, similar to the works of composers George Butterworth and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Blow the Wind Southerly narrates the story of a woman who is eagerly waiting for a wind blowing from the south.
