This composition for recorder ensemble was created for, and executed by, the Manchester Recorder Orchestra in February 2015. The title, An Amble round Mercury, alludes to the Mercury statue and its adjacent pond located in the heart of Tom Quad at my alma mater, Christ Church Oxford. The musical piece encapsulates a tranquil stroll around this quadrangle, harmonized by a basso ostinato that subtly threads its way through the orchestral arrangement.
