The composition "Alía" draws its inspiration from the modal melodies gathered by composers such as Ralph Vaughan Williams from England and Scotland's countryside. The simple yet deeply aware lifestyle of rural dwellers and their intimate connection with nature is mirrored in the prominently cantabile melody of this piece. In tribute to the vibrant rural cultures that persist in my home country of Colombia, I have incorporated rhythmic elements from the Bambuco, a syncopated, ternary musical style.
