"Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" is a renowned choral composition by Johann Sebastian Bach. This work represents the 10th movement of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben which Bach composed during his initial year in Leipzig, Germany. Interestingly, Bach did not create the melody, that was the work of Johann Schop. Bach's contribution was in harmonizing and orchestrating Schop's melody. The English pianist Myra Hess (1890-1965) further transcribed "Jesu" in 1926 for solo piano, which was published in 1934.
