The composition was created in April 2003 for the Thornesian Prize Competition, specifically for an SATB piece. The creator, who participated in numerous choirs during his early years and twenties, felt compelled to compose a piece for choir after damaging his vocal cords. The piece incorporates a modal tune for the word lullaby and intertwines it with the opening phrase of the 15th-century Coventry Carol. To evoke the ambiance of the angels' arrival, the piece employs shifting modulations and incorporates a few words and phrases.
