The podcast discusses the influence of electronic health records (EHR) and role-playing in nursing education. The speaker shares their experience transitioning from conventional role-playing to simulation and the importance of having access to medical records. Role-playing helps students simulate medical situations and improve their skills in technology, communication, and decision-making. EHR provides comprehensive information for patient care, and proficiency in navigating through it is crucial for nursing students. The podcast aims to improve nursing student readiness by combining EHR with role-playing. The speaker encourages taking advantage of the advancements in educational technology and the opportunity to have a positive impact on people's lives. Welcome to Real Rules, Real Records, the podcast where we dive into the deep fusion of technology and hands-on learning in nursing education. My name is Shantae, and in this discussion, we will explore the significant influence of electronic health records, known as EHR, and role-playing in preparing nursing students for actual healthcare settings. The evolution of nursing education through my career as a staff nurse, and now that I've become a travel nurse for the past four years, I've observed the transition from conventional role-playing to a more sophisticated state-of-the-art simulation, very similar to one that I just completed in my course. A significant flaw in my training was the lack of access to medical records. I can remember a period when we documented all patient information on physical paper, and so there was delay in transmission of information across different states and hospitals, making it very challenging, and so that compromised patient care. But currently, the internet and having access to those resources, such as Epic and Meditech, they provide access to information, so that facilitates a smooth transition of information, which contributes to the essential aspect of comprehensive care. So, the significance of role-playing in nursing education. Role-playing is a vital component of nursing education. It allows students, such as myself, to simulate important medical situations in a safe and controlled environment. This method not only improves the experience of working with technology, but also it fosters skill sets to be able to proficiently communicate and make decisions in critical, challenging medical settings. So, the function of electronic health records are not just simply digital files, but they are rather an instrument or tool that provides comprehensive and current access to patient history, laboratory results, and other important information. So, being able to proficiently navigate through these electronic health records is crucial for nursing students, as it ensures that their capacity to provide informed and efficient patient care, which is important. So, incorporating role-playing with EHR and simulation scenarios is that the intersection of education and innovation meet. Consider a situation in which a nursing student, acting as a nurse, but must get a patient electronic health record to carry out the suitable course of action during any medical emergency, or just medical care in general. This assessment not only measures their clinical competency, but also their capacity to utilize digital technology in high-pressure situations, simulating real-life obligations, such as carrying out physician orders. So, the objective of Real Roles, Real Records is to improve the readiness of nursing students by combining electronic health records with role-playing. This integration allows them to not only carry out their future professional tasks, but also to succeed in them. Undoubtedly, given the advancements in educational technology and the ever-changing healthcare landscape, becoming a nurse at this present time is very beneficial. This is a pivotal moment to seize a chance to acquire knowledge, develop, and have an impact on people's lives. So, I thank you for tuning in to this episode, and may the revolutionary potential of cutting-edge approaches in nursing education ignite your passion. Until next time, I am Shante. I encourage you to continue seeking information and cultivating ideas. Thank you.
