The speaker raises questions about free will and how our actions and desires may be influenced by external factors. They suggest that our experiences shape our autonomy and that social media companies have taken advantage of this by manipulating our reward systems and creating addiction. They compare this to the sacrifices demanded by ancient gods, highlighting the sacrifice of our time and attention to these platforms. The speaker encourages listeners to question their free will and consider engaging in other activities. Have you ever thought about your actions, like really sat down to think about why you like certain things and why you behave in certain ways? What about the idea that everything that you've done so far is your choice, or is it? Have you ever wondered how much you might have been manipulated or shaped by your experiences? And if so, have you thought about how easily you gave in? The question of free will has haunted thinkers for centuries. The social implications of this question is basically a nuclear bomb. But the funny thing is, when we sit down on a social media app scrolling for hours, we just lose control. Are tech companies the new gods? If so, how would God manipulate free will at an individual level? To answer that question, we must first question what free will is. The easiest answer is autonomy and action. To do these things, to want these things, I must be free. I must be free to do these things. But are you free? Our freedom is nothing but the product of our experiences. Your autonomy is dependent on what you've experienced. If you do not know something exists, then there is no way that you can desire for it. So, if I were God, I would change behaviors and experiences through genetics, behavior modification and reward systems. Genetics and behavior modification go hand in hand. It's both our upbringing as well as the environment that we were brought up in. Reward systems are built into us like a coding function. Dopamine, serotonin, endorphins and a slew of other drugs in our bodies get us to do what we might want to or we might not want to. So, how have social media companies tapped into this? They have basically taken away autonomy by taking over our reward systems. They have taken autonomy and created dopamine addiction and the action is just the addiction in action. They have hijacked your reward systems, used it to create a behavior modification system and basically a society modification system. You and I are nothing but lab rats being fed drips of dopamine every time we get that notification and we seek it, we want it. The funny thing is the old gods asked us for burnt offerings, but they asked us for wheat goats and fattened calves. The new gods ask you for a sacrifice that's much more deeper and cuts more stronger. They ask you for your time and attention. If you've sat with me and listened to me for so long, my question to you is, have you questioned your free will today? If not, maybe get off this platform and do something else.
