The Republic of Mexico is experiencing its fourth heatwave of 2024, with record-breaking temperatures. The National Autonomous University of Mexico has warned that temperatures could increase even more. To protect yourself, it's important to know the least recommended times to be exposed to the sun due to high UV radiation. The World Health Organization states that UV radiation is most intense around noon and less intense in the morning and evening. During summer, 20-30% of daily UV radiation is received between 11 am and 1 pm, and 75% between 9 am and 3 pm. Dermatology experts recommend avoiding sun exposure between 10 am and 4 pm when UV rays are strongest and the risk of skin damage is highest. To minimize sun damage, use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, stay in the shade, wear light-colored clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and UV-blocking sunglasses, and stay hydrated to prevent dehydration in extreme heat.
