The narrative of Jews in the Civil Rights Movement is often portrayed as Jews being heroes fighting for justice, but there are other aspects that haven't been fully explored. This story aims to highlight the complexities and multiple dimensions of this history, and examine the relationship between the Jewish and African American communities during the Civil Rights Movement. While some Jews were involved in the movement due to their belief in standing with persecuted groups, there is more to this story than meets the eye. The narrative of Jews in the Civil Rights Movement is one that is commonly taught with Jews as the heroes standing up for justice, but other sides of this story haven't been fully explored yet. We wanted to highlight the complexities and multiple dimensions of this part of history, and to explore the relationship between the two communities and their overlapping identities in the context of the Civil Rights Movement. There were a few prominent Jews that were famously involved in the Civil Rights Movement because of the idea of standing with another persecuted group that is often taught within Judaism. However, we think that this story is more complicated than it initially appeared.
