The May edition of the Fire College Corner discusses the upcoming Fire Service Instructor Conference focusing on mastering skills and training. The conference will feature various speakers covering topics such as developing new instructors, managing AI, integrating EMS into firefighting, and more. The event will also include classes on health and safety, fire chemistry, and fire extinguisher training throughout May. Additional updates may be announced, so stay tuned for the next month's schedule. Welcome to the May edition of the Fire College Corner. We're going to start off the month talking about the Florida State Fire College Fire Service Instructor Conference titled Mastering Our Craft. The dates are May 6th and 7th and the conference location is going to be a little different than you might expect. We are going to be holding this conference at the Appleton Museum at 4333 East Silver Spring Boulevard in Ocala, Florida. That's due to the fact that we are doing some significant upgrades to our auditorium on the campus and are using a different facility this year. On day one, Reginald McKnight from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue will be presenting Finding and Developing the Next Fire Service Instructor. That will be followed by Kingman Schultz talking about Mastering Our Craft, Developing New Firefighters, New Officers, and New Instructors. Then we'll be talking about Mastering Fire Tracks. Matthew Trent, the Assistant Chief from North Collier Fire Control District, will be leading that. Jeff Gold will then talk about AI and how we manage its presence now and in the future. From there, Assistant Chief Bill Sturgeon from Sarasota County will be talking about Striking a Balance Between Operations and Training. That will be followed up by Damien Motzinger, Rescue Chief from Lakeland Fire Department, and he'll be talking about The Door Is Not the Finish Line, integrating EMS into the fire ground. That'll conclude day one, but then we are going to have a Best Practices Meet and Greet in downtown Ocala at the Midtown Station. That'll start at 6 p.m. Day two will consist of Kingman Schultz again talking about Mastering Our Craft, Performance Standards for the Unable, Unknowing, or Unwilling. Chief Oscar Rodriguez from Margate Fire Department will be talking about Succession Planning from the Company Level Training to the Training Division. Then Dr. Tom Hall from Bureau of Support Services Criminal Investigation Division will be teaching the Next Generation of Firefighters. Frank D. Francesco, who works here at the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, will be talking about LMS, Traditional Versus Hybrid Teaching. The Florida Fire Training Directors will have an overview and their board meeting. The Florida Fire Chiefs Association Training and Education Section will also have a board members meeting. And then there will be an open forum of questions and answers hosted by Kingman Schultz. Overall, the event will be emceed by Past Director Rand Napoli. And that'll conclude our annual Fire Service Instructor Conference. Of note, our sponsors are MECO Fire Brotherhood, Jones and Bartlett Learning, Bennett Fire Products, IFSTA, 10-8 Fire and Safety, NFATCO, United Badges, ESMG, OPCOM, Fire Engineering Training, Firefighter One, and the University of Florida. We hope to see you there. Now, moving on to the classes that are being held in May. From May 11th through the 15th, a Florida Health and Safety Officer class will be offered on campus. Then from May 18th to the 22nd, Fire Chemistry. Also the week of May 18th through the 22nd will be Fire Extinguisher Technician. Then on May 19th, if you need the Statewide Emergency Response Plan, that is being offered online and available for you to register for. That's what's going on on the campus of the Florida State Fire College for the month of May. We may have some additional updates during the month. Stay tuned for next month's schedule of events. Thank you for listening to the Fire College Corner. Thank you.
