The speaker recalls the impact of the 2007-2008 writer's strike and how it took years for the industry to recover. They emphasize the importance of writers in the film-making process and express hope that we never reach a point where AI can replace human writers. First thing I thought of when I saw the writers going on strike was what happened in 2007-2008 was the last writer's strike that I remember and I remember the impact that that had and how it took years for the industry to catch back up from this lag in productive process because we have to think when Hollywood or other industries are making films and television um it's a constant process that is constantly continuing and once that gets put the brakes get put it takes a long time for everything to get raised back up because we think films are just made but it's an enormous amount of people that go into making a film and one little hitching point especially a writer which is where you know most of the time previous in film history that's where the inception point would have been um now it's a little different the way that films are presented to us but you still need a writer to write films um we're not to a point hopefully we don't ever get to a point where we can just click a button on ai and it will write a film for us um we still need that that human element in there
