This prophet, the man of God, son of Amittai, his name is also mentioned in the Old Testament, and there is a report about Amittai, a prophet of God, and his son Jonas. He was called by God to take Nineveh, a message, a message of destruction, because they were great sinners. Still, Jonas, fearing to deliver God's message in that great city, he took a different course. He bought a ticket on a ship that was going to Tarsus, and he went down to the bow of the ship, and there he slept a deep sleep, deviating from the word of God, taking another course. Tarsus is a very far city, more than 400 kilometers from that region, which is near Nineveh. Do not confuse it with Tarsus. Tarsus is near, in that same region of Cilicia, the city of the Apostle Paul. Before it was Saul, who was known as Saul of Tarsus, and after his conversion he began to be called Paul, the great apostle of St. Paul. Therefore, Tarsus is not the same thing as Tarsus. And he had to cross the great sea to reach a distance of more than 400 kilometers. Still something interesting happened, because God had given his order for him to go to Nineveh, preach his message, the message of God, the message that God said, the message that God had given him. It was not his word, the word of God. But he, with fear, fled to Tarsus, and went down to the bottom of the ship and slept, a deep sleep. God sent a storm over the sea, and those sailors rowed and fought, trying to reach land, and could not, because the sea thickened more and more against him. His waves wanted to blow up the ship, and they emptied the ship, and the waves increased more and more. And they feared, and everyone cried out to their God, because that region was full of idolatrous people. Everyone had their God, there were thousands of gods. Yet they were all gods with a tiny D, because God, and we consider that God with a tiny D, all of them are devils, are demons, are idols, who can do nothing. And that region was full of these things, and Jonas had to deliver the message, so that the people would convert from idols to the living God, and repent and improve their ways. And those men, each one cried out to their God, and there was no answer. They went down and found Jonas sleeping. The master of the ship said to him, Why are you sleeping? Get up and cry out to your God. Who knows if, by chance, he will hear us. And Jonas was there sleeping. And they cast their luck, and then they cast their luck, to find out why that great storm had happened, because the sea was getting purer and purer against them, to the point of blowing up the ship. And they, with great fear, now cried out to God. No one else cried out to the idols, but now they cried out to the God of Heaven, who created the heavens and the sea and the dry land. At that moment, they were afraid of committing a crime by throwing Jonas into the sea, but the sea was increasing its waves more and more. And they now prayed to God, asking Him not to pour the blood of that man over them, and they got up Jonas and threw him into the sea, and the sea calmed down, the waves immediately calmed down, and there was great goodness. And they feared a lot, and they made vows, and now they prayed to God, to the God of Heaven, no longer each one to his God, as it was before. This is the first conversion of a group, and then, in the sequence, the conversion of the whole city, as we read in chapter 3. So, more miracles happened, there were a series of seven miracles. A fish, a great fish, in the New Testament it is written, a whale, it swallowed Jonas, and he was in the belly of the fish for three days. Another miracle, God made him stay alive. From there, he cried out to God, he himself declared, from the depths of hell, because he went down to the deepest part of the sea. And there, in the stomach of that great fish, he prayed to God, because he was still alive. That's why he didn't perish, because he remembered God in the last second of his life. He repented, and sought salvation from God, and God heard him when he prayed from the deepest part of hell, because he was still alive. In the same way, my friend, you can also pray to God while you are alive. Don't wait to die first, because then there will be no more solution, there will be no more opportunity. But while we are alive, this is the purpose of being here, so that we may learn to know God and seek Him while there is time. Seek the Lord while you can. That's why Jonas went to Nineveh, because after the fish vomited him. Another miracle. He vomited him on dry land, not in the middle of the waters, but on land. And he went out walking and received again the message from God. Go to Nineveh and preach to her the word that I told you. Nineveh is a great city of three days' journey. And Jonas began to enter the city on the road of one day and preached and said, still forty days and Nineveh will be subverted. This was the message that God had given to the prophet before. And he disobeyed and fled. But when all these wonders of God happened so that he obeyed His word, he received again from God. Go to the great city and preach to her the message that I told you. Because this word And the men of Nineveh, when they heard because he began to preach on the first day, the second and the third, and this word came to the king of Nineveh and rose from his throne and took off his garments and covered himself with a sackcloth and sat on ashes and made a proclamation in which it was disclosed in Nineveh by command of the king and his great ones, saying, Neither man, nor animals, nor oxen, nor sheep taste anything, nor do they walk, nor drink water. But men and animals will be covered with sackcloth and will cry out loudly to God and will speak to each one of their bad way and of the violence that is in their hands. Who knows if God will return and will repent and will depart from the fury of his wrath, so that we may not perish. Each one speaks of his bad way. This was the message now from the king, proclaimed by the king who collaborated with Jonas and sent messengers to announce it throughout the city, because the prophet, walking on foot, he would not be able to travel the great city of 120,000 inhabitants. And Jonas delivered the message and it reached the king's ears and the king completed the message and decreed that all should fast for three days and that all should convert from their bad ways and that all should seek to improve their ways. Also in our days it is not different. Evil is around us, threatening, tremendous and we need to improve our ways. We need to convert wholeheartedly to the Lord our God and improve our ways. Who knows if he will return and will repent of evil. So was the word of the king. In verse 9 it is so. Who knows if God will return and will repent and will depart from the fury of his wrath, so that we may not perish. This was the question, the king's question to all the inhabitants of Lyne. Who knows if God will return and will not apply his great wrath against us so that we may not perish. And God saw his works. His works. How they converted from their bad ways.
