The podcast discusses the pros and cons of college and whether it is worth the mental health toll. College debt is a major concern, with many students facing stress and financial burdens. Studies show that a significant number of college students experience mental health problems. However, some individuals find college to be a transformative experience and believe it will be worth it in the long run. Ultimately, whether college is worth it depends on the individual and their circumstances. Hello everyone. It's the last segment for our podcast group. So welcome back to another episode. Today we're going to discuss some controversial topics. Yes, I know, college, the place where we are supposed to go after high school and the place where do you need to go to get your degree and then get a real paid job. Also the place where you can get the loads and loads of debt. Here in Huskies, we're going to be talking, is college worth your mental health? What are the pros and cons of college? Here, we're going to be discussing those questions. But before we start, we will be talking about some controversial things like mental health, stress, debt, education, etc. So if you're sensible or can be easily triggered by anything, I recommend you to not watch this podcast episode. Also, I'm not going to encourage you folks to go or not go to college. I'm just informing you about this topic. Okay? Now, without warning, let us begin. Okay, so now in this education is an important thing in today's world. Of course, every parent wants the best for their children and they want to send their children to college so they can get a better education, so they can get a well-paid job. But before sending their children to college, a lot of parents only see the good thing about college. They don't really take into account some cons that college has. For instance, I know a lot of you guys that are watching, that are in college or have been in college are going through this problem and it's become quite common, especially in this economy. Of course, you guys might guess it already, I'm talking about college debt. Everything is becoming increasingly more expensive and college is not an exception. Why college is expensive even financially? There's an article that talks about how debt is causing a lot of stress in students. Here, let me put that article. So here is so, the article is titled, College Debt is One of the Largest Financial Burdens Young People Face Today, published by H.S. Harris on June 5th, 2022. She tells how college debt is one of the most crippling financial burdens young people face today. What's more, nearly 40% of student loans don't finish their degrees within six years. That's according to the Hope Center for College Community and Justice. So they end up with thousands of dollars in student debt and now they need to pay for it. This shows one of the risks that college has and how it can make a lot of no one to go because they don't want to get risk in getting into debt that causes too much stress. And talking about stress, I want to touch into another topic. I know, a lot of you guys are going through right now, even if you're not in college right now. Yes, I'm talking about stress. Here in this article titled, Students' Mental Health in Crisis, Campuses Are a Ridiculous Approach, made by Simon Evans on October 1st, 2022. This article talks about how during the 2020 and 2021 school year, more than 60% of college students met the criteria for at least one mental health problem, according to the Healthy Minds Study, which collects data from three 73 campuses nationwide. In our nation, seven out of three-quarters of students reported moderate or severe psychological distress. This shows how college is not a joke and many students are facing some type of mental health problem because of the workload that they receive, debt, or how they just don't want to fail. We can go on how college can cause stress, but you guys get the point. Let's go to the next point, how college affects students. In this article with the same name made by Martin on November 17, 2016, this article goes into detail. The findings accelerate between 2002 and 2013, covering these diverse aspects of college impact, including cognitive and moral development, attitudes and values, psychosocial change, educational attainment, and the economic, career, and quality of life outcomes after college. So the trend really goes to general the effects of college. But here in this podcast, we not only use articles, but we also use the story of other people, so we can also relate more. Here I have a couple of interviews of some college people, of some people that are in and have experienced college. For instance, one of the things that college has done to someone that I have interviewed named Ivan is making a better person in general, a more responsible and disciplined. Sure, for him it was not easy, but he was forced to. Now he has the life that he dreamed of, and it's still helpful college. Another two people interviewed were still going to college, of Dashawn and Nick. Both said that right now it is hard, but in the future, college is going to be worth it for their life. So is it college worth it? Is it college worth your mental health? I will answer these questions in my opinion, and it depends on the person. College is not for everyone. Sure, college does give you the path to have a successful career path, but college is not the only way. And if you see that college is not worth it, either because of money, or you're not really sure, you just took the time to think about it. Never wish things, please. Now, thank you so much for tuning in. It was an interesting episode. I had so much fun doing this with my teammates. Before you guys go, make sure to follow us on all of our social medias.
