You know, when you educate others about disabilities, we break down barriers, reduce stigma, and foster empathy and support. So, let's shine a light on this important topic together. Throughout this episode, we'll explore the spectrum of disabilities encountered in the workplace and their frustrations. And yes, you heard it right. Like us, they get frustrated too. Today, we have the privilege of hearing from both experts in the field of individuals who bring first-hand experience to the table. So, without further ado, let me introduce our expert, Dr. Mahatma Kaur. Dr. Kaur is a renowned advocate for disability rights and has dedicated her career to supporting organizations in creating inclusive work environments. So, before we jump to our conversations, Dr. Kaur, could you tell us about yourself, of what you do in the field of psychology? Sure thing. I am Dr. Mahatma Kaur. I study how people work together in companies. I help make sure everyone feels included, especially those with disabilities. I have been doing this for over 15 years, and I have a PhD in organizational psychology. What a great achievement, Dr. Kaur. Thank you. Now that we've heard from our expert, let's bring some more voices into the conversation. Joining us are Mr. Maurice Prasla and Mr. Rohan Rabari, whose unique perspectives and experiences will enrich our conversation. Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you for having us here. It's my pleasure to be here. Today, we're delving into the issue of disabilities in the workplace. Dr. Kaur, could you share with our listeners why understanding disabilities in the workplace is so important? Absolutely, Janice. Disabilities in the workplace can present unique challenges for both employees and employers. It's crucial for organizations to create inclusive environments where everyone, regardless of ability, can thrive and contribute their best work. That's so true. And I imagine there's a lot of misconceptions surrounding disabilities in the workplace. What are some common misconceptions you've come across? Yes, definitely. One widespread misconception is that disabilities only refer to physical impairments, when in reality, disabilities cover a broad spectrum of conditions, including cognitive, sensory, and mental health disabilities. It's important to recognize and accommodate all types of disabilities to ensure equal opportunities for everyone. Totally. It's vital to have that understanding. Now I'm certain our listeners are keen to know how they can better support their colleagues with disabilities at work. So, what are the challenges do individuals with bipolar disorders typically face in the workplace, Dr. Kaur? Well, according to Mr. Stanley Klau, the author of Supporting Employees with Bipolar Disorders, there are many obstacles faced by individuals, as it is hard for them to concentrate during their mood swings. Additionally, they do not give their best at the workplace because they feel uneasy, as they think that they are judged by their coworkers. Is that right, Mr. Reyes? Yes, it's totally right. From my own experience, I can tell. I have found it tough to stay focused during mood swings at work. Feeling uneasy around coworkers and worrying about the judgment also adds to the challenge. What strategies can businesses offer to assist individuals with bipolar disorder?
