"The Apology of Socrates" is a written account by Plato of a speech given by Socrates in 399 BC. Socrates was defending himself against charges of corrupting the youth and not believing in the gods that the city believed in. The word "apology" meant speaking in defense of one's beliefs or actions in Ancient Greece. Plato's version of the speech is an important piece of literature that sheds light on the trial of Socrates and his philosophical views.
