Toxic productivity is a behavior where people feel guilty if they're not constantly being productive. It can lead to exhaustion and negatively impact mental and physical health. It often comes from expectations and comparing ourselves to others. Taking breaks and focusing on quality rather than quantity can help reduce toxic productivity. Learning to reject tasks and finding a balance between work and personal life is important. The podcast provides solutions for working productively without being toxic. Welcome to Radio Western Phromon with me, and today we move to an interesting episode talking about toxic productivity for people who haven't known exactly about it. I'm so excited to share with everyone right now. Before we start, I want to introduce three guest speakers today. Hi, and welcome Phuc An Bao. Hi, everyone. Hi. Thanks for inviting me. It is an honor for me to participate in this episode. Okay, let's start the podcast by answering today's question. What is toxic productivity? What came to your mind when you heard about that, Ken? I think toxic productivity can be described as a stage of behavior when people can't stop being productive and they find it difficult to do nothing. Maybe I think they will feel guilty when they skip the top two. Or they will obsess in being productive all the time. It sounds bad, isn't it? That's right. However, have you guys ever been in this situation before? I'm sometimes in that kind of situation. Me neither. As you know, I'm concerned about my grade all the time, so I couldn't get out of work and I often burnt the midnight oil that's provided day by day to complete all tasks that I set out to do as my aim. Personally, I believe that working hard is nothing to be ashamed of. But like any good habit, moderation is important. So, where do you guys think it came from? I don't know exactly where it came from, but I think it totally starts from our expectation and comparison. Perhaps we always compare ourselves to someone around us because seeing someone else being productive might affect us and we have to work harder. So, how do you feel when you want to try and finish everything you want without time off? On some days, I'm really tired and stressed. My mood went down, especially when I wanted to try something new to share with my friends, but I had no idea about everything. Of course, whenever you work without rest, it's always called both mental and physical health. For instance, if you work constantly, you will be weary and out of energy. At that moment, every activity will be interrupted. Dr. Wilco, the author of Good Feeling, said that if you don't take time to rest, your body is going to spend the time for you that you won't be able to work. Moreover, it can impact our relationship around us, right? Because you have no leisure time to hang out with your loved ones, that might be one of the consequences. Hey, let's imagine. If we kept losing our relationship, what would happen? Hmm, I think we might be isolated from the things around us. Wow, I couldn't imagine it. If it's true, I would really, really be distracted. Come on, don't be really that serious. We still have some solution for this. Relax, Bao. Alright, we will return to the studies after the commercial. It is time for a sponsor today. It is an honor for us that ABPK Tours is going to be our partner, cheering out with us throughout Vietnam to discover culture, different local food and people in your free time. This may only yet 30% of our family tour do it without hesitation. Alright, back to our regular work, we have talked about what, why and how we cause toxic productivity. Are there any solutions to get out of it? Hmm, depending on my knowledge, there are some ways to reduce ourselves from toxic productivity. Honestly, I think working too much at one time or multitasking too much might not be as effective as less. But all about quality, not quantity. Hmm, I agree with it. Besides that, we should have a short break time while working. By this way, we can balance between tasks and relax. For example, using the Pomodoro method to limit time in concentrating on something. Because if you focus on something for a long time, it will reduce your efficiency in working and you will feel exhausted. So now I know what should I do to optimize my time effectively and spend more time hanging out with my family and friends. Learning how to reject can be also a good solution. There are a lot of people who want to prove themselves. That's why they keep receiving tasks and being burned out through it. There are some suggestions for you guys so you can choose the best way what is suitable for you and try to apply it in your own journey. Hopefully, after this podcast, everyone could identify exactly how to work productively without being toxic. Let me end by saying thank you to three guest speakers today and you guys for your appearance. Hope to see you in the next podcast.
