The name of the piece is a pun on "Shostakovitch", one of the principal motifs in the piece is based on a motif I heard in Shostakovitch's String Quartet No. 12 in D-flat Major, Op. 133 (this pattern I believe is itself based on a rhythmic motif he likes to use, from another well known composer ;-) )
