Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo that is super smooth 94 proof super smooth the oak is there in a really good way gosh this is bring out the gosh in me Wow widow Jane that's really good good job that is pretty damn tasty better than the decadence oh my god that was on the level of your IPAs for me so that's where I was at I'm sorry man that the maple flavor in there did not taste natural to me no no no no no it just it tasted like they put artificial maple flavoring in it and it was that was terrible man well one of the things that little Jane is known for is using maple with their charcoal in their mellowing process when you say maple using maple maple wood maple or the way I've seen it is maple in the charcoal so whether they're mixing maple in with the charcoal and then pouring the bourbon over that smell it out I'm not exactly sure but I do know that the way that the decadence is done anyway is that they will maple prime the barrel and then aged in that barrel that is very tasty okay so I did we we just found another under 100 proof because we're we're proof snobs to a point to a point indeed but this juice this juice is that's right on man that's right on what's the MSRP on this bottle so this particular one I got better than that however it's about 110 okay so and on secondary you can see it go anywhere from 150 and up so do you see this as a hundred and fifty dollar bottle would you pay 150 say 170 for this no no I would not I like it at MSRP but I like every bottle of MSRP who doesn't and even like the stag juniors yeah at MSRP I much rather prefer them there but I am willing to go a bit higher than MSRP on those well first of all everybody would like MSRP but you know now 120 it's probably reasonable for this Oh for the winter Jane mm-hmm yeah 110 is a lot better I think one of the things that really helps us is that 13 year age statement and how much of the oak that comes through in this because of the amount of time that it's spent in the barrel what I do wonder and this is something that I learned about with the Russell's 15 is that they lost 60% of angel share it was almost 15 so the angel share is the amount of bourbon or liquid in the cask that evaporates that is lost due to weepage that has stopped lost due to evaporation and they say that's the angel share and a lot of bottles that age or sorry casks that age around eight nine years might lose 10 15 percent of the barrel mm-hmm when you really get up there and age you tend to lose a lot more so Russell's has said they might be releasing at 15 again you're talking dirty to me yes I am things may have twitched when I read that hmm that that is damn tasty hmm widow Jane thank you very much opening that expression together most excellent that is fantastic and I have to say to give a plug to Big Red who has counted how many times he has been mentioned in our podcast so this will be more times for Big Red to count what's up red my man pots and pans he has done nothing but recommend widow Jane widow Jane is absolutely one of his favorite force that's that's one of slobby's favorite force too because you know he's an under 100 proof guy sure so matter of fact I think the very first pour of widow Jane I've ever had was with him yeah um it was not the 13 where did you grab this bottle at when Dixie of all places yep Oh Davery yes okay okay right on so hunting for one thing found something else happy with my choice yeah that pisses me off when a liquor store gets one bottle sure but one bottle that is a topic of another yeah time whatever bro so this is really a good opportunity for us to make a segue I had the opportunity to talk with somebody based off of and if I think it was episode 2 we might have talked about this where we might have been able to get a hold of some swag so I have to go back a few weeks now I have the opportunity that I found something shortly after the Kentucky Bourbon Festival happened okay and some of my favorite creators on tik-tok were sharing some of their experiences there and that was around the time that you and I went on our business trips you went to Kentucky I went to Tennessee and what I had found was fat man so props to fat man and I hope that you're listening what's up that man he was sharing these trading cards that he saw at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival training cards trading cards Oh if you ever collected your flair or tops or any of the other basketball baseball or football trading cards and now there's trading cards for everything that's even conceived to be a sport even Pokemon even Pokemon only Pokemon actually some very very high dollar stuff is out there the Pokemon world and it's one of the things that the Paul brothers are well known for still don't understand it but whatever man okay neither do I but when I was a kid I certainly collected my basketball cards I do have my own Jordan rookie card I am very happy to still have some of those even though the market on all those things crashed a long time ago what these are these are bourbon trading cards and what I did is I saw this thing that fat man shared and I said I've got to know more because I would love to fast forward to a day like today talk to everybody about these wonderful things that I saw I'm intrigued so I went on Instagram and I found bourbon Don Don makes these cards by hand now Don is a bit of a techno person anyway he is a retired architect and has spent the majority of his professional career drawing using Apple products and so his way of approaching these are using Apple devices to draw and make the art and then he uses a post-production process to go ahead and get his art onto cards okay and many like this very large four by six card that I'm holding on to or five by seven I think is what it is is that a representation of one of the cards it is okay and this card has on it a bottle of town branch bourbon it is stylized in his style it is a very true to life representation of the bottle and on the back this is where the trading card comes into effect because of course you know in your baseball cards the back would have their stats their ERA their their home run total home runs for the seasons and their ratings over the course of the years that they've been playing the game and for the different teams that they played for this also has stats town branch rated 95 a town branch Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey distillery Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company 401 Cross Street Lexington Kentucky 40508 proof 90 proof type Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey age aged years no age statement meets the minimum requirement of four years for straight bourbon goes into the mash bill goes into the rating goes into the availability gives you some information and oh look there's a QR code for linking right to bourbon Don's Instagram oh that's pretty cool I happen to know that they also recently launched a store so you can buy these cards for various prices however you've handed me one of these little packets or is this something we're going to open now yeah so I had a really great opportunity to talk to Don for about an hour a little more than a week ago and he got to share with me his story what brought him to this point what he's trying to accomplish with these and I said before I go into all these wonderful things that you told me let me invite you on so future episodes we will have Don and his son on they can share their story and tell us more about their cards oh that would be awesome but he did send us not just this larger card but two packs nice these are all randomly assorted the full set of his first runner 22 cards okay and we do not have 22 cards in these packs so the sample packs we get the chance to open these fresh oh and share our impressions so lumpy there it away okay let's open this bad boy up and see what this all about and Don was thinking he gave us two different packs okay so that way we could open and take a look Wow okay each card is hand-drawn tribute to a single lease and label its bottle unique story and tasting experience okay so what did you get I have black and gold pursuit United brothers of the lease and Blackwood okay I don't think I've ever heard of any of this but if I could articulate mine and I've heard of two of these three actually copper and Kings I've heard of them chicken cock yes heard of them I haven't heard of this one space capsule Apollo that is a special release specifically for NASA all right these are pretty cool man these are already damn cool let me tell you right away I love the fact that these are kind of celebrating each of these bottles indeed whether the bottle is ornate or straightforward each one of these are given a fair shake of a great presentation it's multi-layered with a background that is representative of the distillery the lettering is incredibly easy to read and these colors they just pop and these cards are substantial I could put these in my pocket if I wanted to each one of these are laminated yeah yeah they're pretty solid man and you can hear that on the back each and every one of them have a QR code to go back to the Instagram and they all share some really fantastic information about the bottle hey thanks bourbon done these things are pretty cool man I gotta say I want all 22 every last one of these I want to get a hold of and I have to know that he will sell them as a set okay so if you are like me and like to have a little bit of everything then you can do that Wow look at these and this is really cool this is really cool so here is some of the detail on this pursuit United so not only does it have a really great image of this bottle the star rating of 83 it says Kentucky New York and Tennessee and it says that pursuit United bourbon distillery address blended and bottled by pursuit spirits and Louisville Louisville Louisville Kentucky thank you this proof is 108 I already want to try it it is a straight bourbon whiskey aged four to six years it's a blend of rye and weeded bourbons source from Bardstown bourbon company Kentucky and then Finger Lakes Distilling Company the silly New York sorry and an undisclosed Tennessee distillery not located in Tullahoma to help the Tullahoma not really sure that's the first time I've ever read that rating approximately 85 out of 100 and the availability is moderate available at select retailers and other platforms so guys make sure you check out bourbon Don on IG for the gram however you label it at the bourbon Don yes so Don I can't wait to have you on as a guest absolutely hear more of your story your cards are amazing and I think that every single person who enjoys bourbon and ever thought that they enjoyed cards you need to have these absolutely 100% those are very cool so and like we've said before support small business absolutely we're all about that Don's just doing this on his own and for fun Don spread your wings buddy spread your wings fly fly those are awesome bud thank you very much so speaking of getting things I like getting things good things I have to say thank you very much for what I'm holding in my hand here what do you got you gave me a bourbon cigar from Ted's and I can say that I don't really know much about it but I just wanted to quickly say thank you because this will get snipped clipped and lit as soon as I'm able and I will enjoy this a lot so thank you sir oh yeah my pleasure you've bought me a cigar too so at least I could do is a reciprocate a little bit you're you're more of the cigar guy than me I enjoy cigar here and there you know good stick here and there's fine especially with a very good core and a good friend I'm you know I've realized I'm more of an infused mm-hmm cigar guy I like that flavor yeah Tatiana's you really like okay well we'll have to hit those up definitely hit those up they have six different infused flavors and that's all they do that last time we went to cigar hustler mm-hmm and I got that espresso yes yeah that was pretty good good that was pretty good all right so by the way I'm still I'm nursing this man the nose on this motherfucker is unreal it's good I can't I literally I mean I'm more enjoying smelling it I mean the taste but fuck man I gotta tell you gotta tell you this is probably one of the best oh yeah pores I've ever had so we got to have some really good pores indeed for sure and I have to say that Don really put together a fantastic product with these bourbon trading cards and I'm thrilled to see small business that has a niche because I can tell you I've never seen anything like it oh I have either so I think that will do well one of the things also that I haven't seen a whole lot like are a couple of the cars that I inherited when my father unfortunately passed away and as unfortunate as that circumstance is I can say that there's been ups and downs since then specifically with these cars okay so let's unpack that yeah so the ups are I was able to get them all running and when I say all there's two in particular one three total I suppose one in which we're sitting in right now which is our studio space this RV so I have driven it one time and I will drive it more because I need to go and get some more gasoline for it so but it is a 35-foot Winnebago the largest thing that I have ever been behind the wheel of the other two that I have and one is in the shop right now dealing with an electrical issue so this is a little bit of the busy part of life the heart of kicking you in the teeth sort of thing is a 2003 Ford Thunderbird and convertible convertible so and with a hardtop been in and it is a very fun vehicle to be in so my youngest daughter loves when the top is down more than anything else when it comes to driving with me so that's really enjoyable my big on the other hand not so much she's not as much of a fan so but it is a really fun car to drive and I'm really hoping that the electrical issues I'm dealing with right now can be resolved so that way I can get it back out and enjoy it if they can't be resolved by the shop that's it it's in right now and I'll just share so if anybody's listening is a home mechanic and knows electrical issues on older Fords I am able to manipulate the headlights by turning the turn signals on and off so all those symptoms that I have with it to kind of lead to a grounding issue so we'll see so at night you just have to keep turning left you have the left turns as long as I Daytona Beach International Speedway everything yeah I can keep the lights on what so it's not really an issue of keeping the lights on they will stay on so long as I don't use the turn signals but I also don't have turn signals so I did look and found that it was completely illegal to still use hand turn signals as long as the cop can actually see you when you're doing it so I try not to drive it at night so I'm hoping that that can get fixed yes but but the other one that I'm really excited to be able to get out on the road and I finally got driving the other day was a Chevy and it's not just a Chevy this is a 1950 Chevy style line two-door special nice ride this is a giant beast of a two-door car oh it's a big boy two bench seats easily fit six people in it three on the tree and in line six that sounds bolder than any engine I've ever been behind okay including the Thunderbird now mind you this is an older simpler engine so that guttural sound that you get every time it revs very much in line with an engine that fits the stage now it's horsepower it's torque any of those things I don't know anything about that because I'm not a car guy I have always been able to do what I'm told I can troubleshoot some very basic things but I need older wiser people to tell me what to do and if not older at least wiser to tell me what I need to do in order to do the work and I'm very willing to put in the work but I am happy to say that after this car was not able to run since February of this year which is before my father passed I have successfully driven this thing around the block and once I get it working the way I want it to drive right over to you pick you up and we'll go cruising first around the block then around the county that's right baby steps right that's right so I'm really thrilled that the car is able to work and there's nothing more satisfying than having turn an ignition switch or in this case press the ignition button it's got a button on the dash the first push buttons to be able to have this thing turn right on after it has struggled being turned on I'm excited and the cool thing for me is I was able to figure out with the help of the neighbor again older wiser person who was able to point me in the direction of replacing the carburetor and I would say for anybody that is facing the opportunity to work on your car do it as long as you don't end up with parts left over they're pretty straightforward to work on now figuring out timing torque some of the things that are a little more specific to engineering you might want an expert electrical I tend not to know a lot about that so I might have to learn with Thunderbird depending on what happens at the mechanic shop here but get in there and do it YouTube is an amazing resource oh for sure people are an amazing resource there are places like rock auto that you can go to and get discount parts for cheap you may have a mechanic that will charge you $400 for a set of parts and you can get them for a third of the price at rock auto plug right so but you just have to be willing to do the work and if you do you'll be very happy and satisfied with what you were able to accomplish I like it glad you got it running I can't wait to get my first ride in it I haven't I've been in the Thunderbird I have yet to be in the Chevy but I'm sure that's coming soon like I said as soon as I have running the way I want to you better believe it because I think that people that I've told about this don't really believe it exists so for everybody out there who's into bourbon who's into cars just remember like follow and share and find us on tik-tok just for the little blurbs and we thank you for listening today guys I think we've pretty well come to the end of our journey today we've got a couple of really good pours X do you want to drop something I just want to take a moment to say thank you because without you I've not been able to realize being able to sit here and talk shit today I like talking shit it has been fun and you also brought a really great handshake and I'm sure thanks Matt that's a fantastic cigar but I cannot wait to snip and light and get into well if you choose to do that on your lonesome let me know how it goes you know me I tend to be more social when it comes to those things so we'll probably be on your back porch so how about this I have a toast so raise your glass hold on let me get my cup that's not much of a thing from a grill to a Glen but a wooden grail and a glass Glen right so like every great pour life's best moments take time to mature so sip slow laugh loud and savor what's in front of you until next time Cheers we're talking shit we're up
