yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo top of the evening to you here we are at uh episode nine episode nine the nuevo the nuevo i'm going to say like la nina or some shit like that but i guess that's so funny yeah why is it when we speak spanish we always have to deepen our voice and say a little bit darker deeper i don't know i don't have a really it's not yeah it's every time the first thing you learn in spanish in general if it's not a swear word that's don't data style banjo so you're you're a lot better than i am with that so i live with the spanish speakers yes you do so good for you too yeah i'm shit with like i speak english and bad english and that's about the extent of what i can do which most people who actually are native english speakers are terrible you know they don't they don't grasp the power of the english language that you really could and ask them to do silly things like grammar especially in text messages that kills me going on to even in emails run on sentences drives me nuts it's like you just keep talking like this you're going to go over there open the door maybe roll down the window stick your hand out throw up the bird to somebody if only people could see my face right now sorry i'm a grammar nazi so that drives me nuts i am not but i am the person who would put the meme up that would say g-r-a-m-m-e-r-n-a-t-s-i just for fun i like it i like it well again welcome back episode nine uh we've had some uh interesting uh episodes under our belt so far we've had some of our first set of guests in episode eight yeah we had three guests all at the same time in one uh episode alone and i will say a lot was forgotten that night what happened i think that there were a few drinks and some great conversations women so i knew we had people who were they yeah so whiskey on whiskey witch and big red whiskey it was a hell of a lot of fun whiskey oden what's up whiskey witch you know we love you yep so uh yeah thanksgiving has come and gone yeah gobble is gone and you sir are a fantastic host thank you very much for hosting us oh my pleasure anytime my friend and being able to uh partake in the uh best weekend that i could have had so though we did not get to spend those couple of hours together all i have to say is it's the one game of the year that every college football fan really needs to be looking forward to and the buckeyes took it there was five minutes of hope in the eyes of every michiganer but we don't give a fuck about that because at the end of that we just smashed them from almost beginning to end and they had no answers and matter of fact by the second quarter and anybody can fight me on this if they want to you could see the soul gone from the michigan defensive line ego it was gone ego well yeah so that part of the holidays past us we're moving on to christmas time christmas yeah crazy time of year for a lot of people so let me ask you this lumpy are you a whamageddon person are you a participant in the ogeddon of wham okay let's define what that oh i think you just answered the question so there is a song by wham that gets played called last christmas and if you hear it then you die oh is it this christmas and last christmas and last christmas or yeah whichever yeah i think the one where he says i gave you yeah that one so if uh if you hear that song then you're supposed to be gone into the uh the halls of wham holla and i'm shocked that the senior gen extra here has not heard of this terrible game that people play i i admit i've never heard that before so welcome to the foray and now you are in the club have i been whamulated uh so from the first educated there you go right so from december 1st until christmas if you can go the whole time without hearing that song anywhere and it doesn't matter whether it's in a store playing across the music or if you're in an elevator or somebody else is playing it in your club in a crowded area there are assholes out there that know people are playing this game and will just put that song and repeat so okay well i will have to try to keep my earplugs in well i generally do that with people anyway so so i think we've talked before that some of our episodes might get a little sappy from time to time and while we accidentally stumble into seriousness you know for whatever fucking reason we do well it's talking shit today that's what yeah origin of this podcast was all about absolutely so i think today some important topics so of course we're going to get into what's in your glass we're going to visit secret santa a little bit and i think because the holidays are around and one of the things that's important for us is holidays for my family growing up was always a family oriented sort of thing go start at my mom's house then we'd go to grandma's house or to an aunt's or uncle's house and there was always family surrounding us we haven't lived around family since early 2003 depending on where what state i've been in and so it's always been a time for us to go around friends or host other people that don't have family around them sure and so i think talking about mental health particularly men's mental health in and around the holidays is going to be an important thing for us to visit because geez we're both men and i think as i am growing and becoming more aware of my own mental health opportunities challenges needs that it's a worthy topic to explore oh absolutely big topic so and then going into a follow-up from what we talked about last time am i the asshole found more stories yes so i well we know that but what we needed to do is to share another story of am i the asshole secret santa edition and then i thought we could just talk a little bit more about the holidays and see what it brings us gotcha well let me ask you x what's in our glass i'm glad that you asked a matter of fact this has everything to do with secret santa so you may know angry mac on tiktok and if you don't you should anger mac's pretty awesome what's up there mac got to participate in this uh tiktok secret santa last year you may recall dave rickhouse had a secret santa which we participated in and i got a high west rendezvous was the bottle that i got out of that uh it was okay i didn't love it i didn't hate it it drank easy it's gone this one however is a small batch dream this is or sorry a craft distillery dream this is king's county distillery straight bourbon whiskey it's 90 proof and can i just say i wish the people at home could see this bottle how simple simple and beautiful it is with a tin cap to the cork uh the bottle itself is fantastic and just look at the color on that nice color is very again like you just said very simplistic i like the label nothing's over fancy nothing ornate it's to the point and the label itself uh looks like it was typed on by a typewriter the only thing that's in capital are the things that absolutely have to be so king's county distillery is in all capital letters and everything else is lowercase is small little details like that that are really really fun well let's give it a pop and uh we'll talk about it so i'm going to hand this to you for the popping like the corn was there for i was thinking the corn was there for popping so and while you're getting ready to crack this thing let me just give some uh details king's county distillery it's a new york bourbon in case you don't know is this one of your first new york or ford hamilton was technically the first that's right that's right and another brooklyn distillery yeah so it's king's county so and that was fucking amazing it was so i think we told the story about the barrel pick that we did but we'll get into that at another point for sure so the king's county distillery and i'll go through these quickly it's 90 proof these typically age between two and four years but they're in small barrels and if you know you know if you don't let me educate small barrels have the tendency to age things quicker it imbues more of the barrel more of the coating of the barrel into the liquid the longer it stays in there and it does so in a shorter period of time than you need to in the bigger barrels that are out there the mash bill itself is typically an 80 percent new york organic corn and a 20 percent malted barley uh distilled in brooklyn uh one of the first post prohibition craft distilleries in new york city very nice so and from a styling it says it's a young craft bourbon with surprising maturity due to the small barrel aging and i can go on into the notes but i much rather like get into it first and then we can go into some of these notes let's go all right all right let me give this thing a pop let's see what it do oh that was over good all right well all right so i'm going to hand this over to you oh that feel that cork man look at the weight on that thing oh wow but lord that's probably it's not just tin on top that's probably like a lead something or other that's the topper this is just so cool let me get a little spillage here right row there's a little bit went down the backside all right i am being modest with the poor here i'll take a modest spore that's pretty i like it all right so first off let's give it that visual inspection we already remarked the color oh yeah and that is a deep deep amber beautiful it's still not as dark as that three witches distillery though that that was amazing we still have a little bit look at the legs on this though man wow really nice if this is really only four years this is doing fantastic in that respect and people may say well what does four years have to do with the legs on this stuff legs on this stuff i would just say that in my experience anything that's got a you know stronger longer age statement tends to be a little more viscous not uh not go quickly down the glass but to coat the glass a little bit better yeah what are you getting on the nose i'm getting oak and this is this is almost uh you're you're always almost going to get that brown sugar oh yeah to get that sweet smell i can say that on the nose it does talk about caramel light brown sugar the sweetness from the heavy corn mash toasted grain and a little bit of cherry or dried fruit it's got a great nose buddy that is good wow oh my goodness i'm i'm sitting here and i'm taking this experience in my mind because on the front side of the palate it kind of explodes with that vanilla caramel real sweet up front and then all of a sudden you get hit almost like it's a domino falling and something else coming forward and kind of that um a little bit nutty a little bit peppery um a little bit of chocolate in the finish but there's also the um kind of that fruitiness that dark fruit like plum sort of um flavor that's there drinks hotter than a 90 proof that spice is there yeah but it's not it's not in a way that i mind at all because the mouth feel i'd say it's it's medium and it's finished it's not certainly doesn't last as long as some others that we've had but even though the the the finish is a little bit quicker the flavor sticks around a bit more that's a that's a that's a decent pour that's that's a decent pour oh yeah absolutely now good good job guys good job well this is a good pour i can say thank you to whomever it was that i got for my secret santa for being inventive the only note that i got so if my secret santa's listening they're also in florida so they said because we're both in florida let me just go ahead and get you some something front fun from new york so that way you can have something uh that you won't get around here so i haven't gotten my secret santa yet well in truth i haven't sent mine yet either it's packaged it's ready to go it'll be there by friday mine was gone that week and i bought it like the day they launched it oh really i bought it and i shipped it right from the the bottom of the place i bought it they shipped it for me oh nice yeah i thought about going that route but i kept looking for store pics and i was not uh finding the pics that i was looking for um and in my journey there so on the note of secret santa and on the note of going to find things i found uh one of our stores here is actually connected to two other stores that we're already familiar with the person who runs in andy's liquors it's over by where papa john's is if you're familiar they uh the the gentleman who owns it i was talking to him because i was asking if he does pics and he said no he does not but his brother does and his cousins do and who's his brother and who's his cousins sonny and kenny andy is in the family so they're like keeping it all in the family they are keeping it all in the family the family's all liquored up and let me tell you this too there's two additional locations that are set to open up wow for kenny's so andy's is that uh where the new what used to be fresco y mas yes and now it's like some other key west foods or some something like that yeah across the street i know exactly where you're talking about so it's very nice looking place their prices are reasonable they didn't have anything that was like oh my goodness fantastic but i did find a uh what i thought was a unique and good bottle there so well if their family they need to get some fucking unique and good bottles there so we can have a place that's decent priced right up the road from us i agree with you and what i had said was i really wish that there was more like what kenny and sonny are doing but in our city and he said it's just not the market for it yeah i can see that so so they can have how much rum he sells yeah probably supersedes any of the bourbon that's exactly what he was saying no i understand that which is interesting to demographic yeah which is really interesting to learn about i'm a big fan of small business i'm a big fan of entrepreneurship anyway and so just getting insight uh to understanding whether it's how the bourbon business is running or how the liquor store business is running it was just interesting to listen to what he had to say so he's been at it for 30 years and his he's hoping that his son will be taking over soon you know we need to find we need to find a liquor store just like that one if not if not that one and become friends with them to the point no i'm serious become friendly with them and see what they can get oh sure you know if they if they find those unicorns or you know those highly sought after bottles that you know or have any of those sought after bottles that they can get and at a decent price you know you say hey can you can you find this or can you get this and give me a call if you can find it and you get a good price and we'll come buy it from you well our little gem out in a place i'm not going to say specifically it has been that way because they've now called me twice for raffles that have uh drawn my name so i'd like to think and say that you're that lucky well there's not a lot of people in the raffle that's where i was getting at that's where i was going yeah because again we're talking about the demographic out there yes um so let me tell you i did go there recently because i had to look and find and found some good stuff and they still had four bottles of elijah craig 18 on their shelf they still had four bottles of old fits seven which was hard to find and now isn't they had i wasn't a fan of that i know you weren't it's weeded though and you're not a big fan of weeded except for the kosher yeah they didn't have any more bottles of kosher which i am looking for every time i walk in there now they had there's one bottle that they had and i forgot the name of it i'll have to grab it next time we go uh but i don't know if i can buy the bottles it's 260 dollars for the bottle but it's a 12 year cigar blend so you know they have to take that extra time to finish it in the casks that they do and so i don't know if it's worth it or not but it's they have a lot of stuff there that is i think they're trying to reach us we're the kind of customer that they're trying to reach yeah and i'm i don't like holding on to secrets necessarily but this one i'm pretty happy about because they keep having good stuff and that's where i walked in and bought that bottle of heritage it was just sitting there well all by itself just needed to be picked up and loved and brought home so and i did i did so speaking of bottles what else is in our cup today well and this kind of takes us back to thanksgiving yes because did we not have some of this yes we did lumpy tell us so we are about to pour ourselves a 13th colony distillery cask strength southern rye whiskey so this comes out of america's georgia it's a small batch cask strength southern rye whiskey it is finished with french oak spirals which most southern rye is known so this cast drink rye it's uh it's a very rich deep flavor when you look at this thing it's a beautiful mahogany we've always talked about the color of this still not as dark as the three witches but it is definitely got an amazing amazing color to it uh it's 120.7 proof nom nom nom i'm already all over it i'm approved for yeah here come the dick butterflies it's not 176.6 oh don't let's let's move on from that one shall we uh it's aged between four and six years it is probably msrp on this thing you're looking at anywhere about 110 to 130 depending on where you go sure uh consistently i found it at 110 at our at our secret place that we won't divulge that was our first bottle and then i found this total line okay which they had several um but yes again this is one of our favorites and next will you do us a favor and oh you get to give this one a poppy pop there buddy something that i've been taking to to do that i found is to tip the bottle so you don't get that neck bore so there's no neck for now this one doesn't happen to have much of a neck pour anyway because yeah it's a pancake bottle great or pot still bottle sorry is that what they call it uh i think the still itself that there would be done it is called a pot still for its shape but that's wow pan still pot still yummy is what it is oh glory did it actually get x almost poured that right down his gullet straight from the bottle because he knows what's coming i would have to well do you oh no no no and i could i could use a nice one on that one there you go do the honors and we've already gone on and on and on about what it looks like so we already know this is pretty good legs but i'm getting past the legs and i'm jumping right in for a great smell all the butterflies are right there this is such a this is such a good whiskey and i think that if if i were to ever figure out what leather's supposed to be like i think it's in here i i concur doctor oh for for 110 you cannot beat this bottle i agree yeah this is one of the better ones for me not only is it a great bottle but and i've said this before i don't think anything tastes like it and i don't think this tastes like anything else this is in its own category all by itself it is a hundred percent unlike anything i've ever had before it's it's it's got a very long finish it's got an incredible front side it's got a great mouth coat you if you like a rye you are going to love this bottle oh yeah and the rice spice is right there punching you in the palate right away and then once it coats your entire mouth you get on the back side as well there's a sweetness and oakiness to this that hangs i love this with a cigar this pairs wonderfully with a good maduro now i'm a connecticut guy when it comes to cigars i like them a little bit on the lighter side but this one goes great with the maduro god damn that's good something i heard recently from somebody who's a cigar bourbon reviewer uh said that you can mix and match flavors but you should not mix and match strengths if you've got a strong whiskey you should have a strong cigar if you've got a light whiskey you should have a light cigar so i think that's fair i don't know but i will take their word for it sounds right to me so before we get into this lumpy don't forget like follow comment share tell your friends tell your family sell your kids send send a note to your teacher's desk check out talking shit today oh yeah you won't be disappointed so let me also tell you about this 13 holiday is that i talk about it with others and what surprises me is what people can and can't find yeah somebody can walk into a gas station buy an antique 107 which is crazy for 40 dollars or less and just walk on out i can find this in three different places right now yeah and people have like oh you got that how do you get that the bourbon market for me is still a mystery that i'm working to understand because there's a lot of people that know their market really well they know where to get things like whiskey on for example there's nothing he can't get well he also he also he's a big on the that unicorn yes that and i think he's not so much looking at price no i get that but also he's very charitable oh indeed and so i know that with um the the put or the um the fundraiser for nyla he probably got 11 bottles yeah yeah for that and he put that out on his tiktok so i'm not giving anything away that people haven't already seen i thought that was amazing yeah so that was incredible what a fortunate place to be in and he seems to give to everyone if i hit him up yesterday and i was talking i said you know you seem like you've got a lot of love to give he's like yeah i'm getting soft in my old age so yes softy um and by the way he might be coming back through in january oh sweet so so i have to do another hookup maybe he can uh stay a little longer and have a few more pours than he did last time because he had he had to move on then he was on his way through yeah he was yeah he was so but he had time for us well and one of the things that i wanted to be able to get into so i think this is really a good segue i talked about at the top of the show mental health particularly men's mental health friendships becomes important anyway and as we get older men for whatever reason and we can talk about that don't invest in their own mental health very much this is true this is very true you can see entire segments of instagram tiktok social in general that say i'm fine hey lumpy how you doing today i'm fine you know what fine stands for fucked up insecure neurotic and emotional exactly yes unfortunately i have a background with that but some exes that i'm not going to talk about however yes that the whole concept of the strong silent type has been kind of a detriment for men and let me throw some facts at you man oh fire away so real talk did you know that after looking at some of these numbers uh just doing some quick research maybe not so quick research about mental health particularly men's mental health before we recorded men in the u.s.
die by suicide about four times more often than women i've read that statistic that means that that compared to women going through the same sorts of issues four times more do men feel like ending it is the right choice to make well that the world's better off without them there's a lot of stress on men you know to be the you know the provider sure the security you know you know those things they have to be the rock for sure so um and then not only do that does that many people feel like the world's better off without them which by the way it's not so if you're listening to this and you're feeling like the world's better off without you the answer is no it's not i'll be your friend i'll be your friend be a friend somebody cares more about you alive than you being dead don't be dead talk to someone we'll just leave it at that talk to someone so and the other part that's really interesting is that only about 17 percent of men get care for mental health whereas for women it's closer to 30 well double almost double and then one of the things that really struck me and i've heard this topic before and it was one of those things that i've experienced myself as i've gotten older as i've spent more time focusing on my nuclear family more time focusing on my profession more time focusing on other things and even having friends that are close by that i barely see so back in 1990 very long time ago feels like it's just like two three years ago old bastard over half of men asked had six or more close friends and lumpy what do you think that is today probably half that one quarter of men are saying the same and then this one is probably more impactful because in my mind i have a handful of close friends and i think it's it's important to be able to at least on one hand say here's the bullets that i would take and as a really good friend of mine says conversely that also means the amount of bullets i'd give well i can see that one right it makes a lot of sense it does and i don't need to expand on that if you know you know if you don't that's okay that's okay um but as far as the amount of men that feel like they have zero close friends that they've meandered through life with nothing but acquaintances or nobody it went from three percent in the same time period up to fifteen percent now wow so it's no wonder that everyone feels lonely this can be because we don't work in the office as much anymore i know i don't but i'm okay with that and i get to travel i get to see people plus have my family at home you're in the office um but there's obviously been some sort of paradigm shift in what just 30 years oh yeah i mean every every guy needs a ride or die guy you know you gotta have that dude yep that that bro that homie whatever you want to call him that you know that person's always going to be there to pick up the phone oh yeah if you call unless he's busy at the moment then he'll call you back but at least you know you have someone to count on well and i'm glad that you said that because we're going to have to talk about that here in just a moment but let me go through and say this too so holidays tend to be an opportunity for a lot of folks where they feel like for me holidays were always a point in which our family got together and our family got together a bunch of anyway i didn't have a whole lot of friends growing up but my cousins were my first friends so going to my aunt's and uncle's houses going to my grandparents house that was a very common thing for me growing up but when i moved away from all that that was a lot less common and when i moved away i mean i moved the fuck away i went from the middle of the country over to one coast and then from one coast back to the middle of the country then down south so i'm here in florida still 1,800 to 2,000 miles away from everybody like my closest relatives up in macon georgia that's a lot of bouncing around everybody and i haven't seen him in years so it's um it's it's pretty insane so when it gets close to the holidays about 89 percent of people say that the holidays bring them stress whether it's because of money family conflicts simply missing loved ones that's a lot of stress that comes around folks on the holidays oh yeah so let me ask you this lumpy why is it that you think it's harder for men to talk about their mental well-being than it is for women men feel if they were to do that that would be a sign of weakness i can see that um it would you know chop down their masculinity a little bit sure and you know you and i are totally different from most men in the way that we understand sure what masculinity is and should and could be um i'm not a tough guy but i certainly am one of those people that if i have something going on i'm i'm going to talk to somebody about it sure now my spouse has a mental health background and maybe over the last 18 years that i've been with her i've dropped some of those walls that i used to have because i've seen firsthand everything that we just talked about yep um and i said you know this is to myself of course i'm like you know what i there's no there's no reason there's no shame there's no embarrassment to say what you got to say if you have to say it well and some things need to be said yeah and i i think you said something important that everybody needs a ride or die oh yeah and that can be hard because i think the qualities that you look for in a ride or die is somebody that will give you a proper amount of judgment because a really good friend you can say anything to with zero judgment but the best friend will judge you for the right reasons and kick your ass when you need it yeah of zero that's why i say the right amount of judgment agreed when i talk to some of my friends and if i'm being the asshole i'm not trying to be or if i'm being weak when i shouldn't or if i'm playing victim when i shouldn't i need somebody to hold me accountable who call me on my shit and say dude man the fuck up but not mean it in a toxic kind of way mean it in a like you need to see the situation for what it really is you need to take control of the situation and be empowered like you should be and don't let your fucking ass play the victim because that's not what you need to do that person needs to be the devil's advocate yes so and they need to be able to to be able to step back and not just say oh poor baby everything will be okay because that's that's not the right medicine right per se so i think as we talk through this and we talk about friendships that will fade i want to put out there for all of our listeners first off get a hold of king county distilling or distillery it's awesome get a hold of that calf strength from 13 colonies if you can because it's just amazing and it's in my hand right now it's going in my gullet as often as i can but as it relates to your mental health a couple things one if you're the healthy one check in with your homies yeah they need it they may not say heckle but they need it make sure that you are doing things together and that's one of the things that i like a lot about you whether you're doing it willingly whether you're doing it purposely or if it's just part of your nature that afternoon phone call that i get when you're bored on the road and you're like hey buddy what you doing i probably haven't talked to anybody real that day now i've talked to my family not to say my family's not real but that's different i have a different relationship with them than i do with my friends and you make a point to reach out i've had other friends that lived a little bit closer than you do that never made that that effort that is a differentiator for me that helps me remember how important it is to reach back out so you may have found that on occasion i reach out a little bit more and i always know myself as a lazy friend but that's not okay well we all we all have our moments you know sometimes we get caught up in our own shit for sure um and you know you have to you have to deal with that shit sometimes first before you can come back to reality so i absolutely agree and then i think also not just talking you know or even air quotes around talking texting isn't talking no emails aren't talking meme sharing's not talking although it's a hell of a lot of fun sending casual beautiful pictures of fine things is not talking what i would say is doing something with people even just sitting in silence one of the things i'm very thankful to you is uh at the end of april my father passed you were the first person that came over and we barely talked no we sat together got drunk as shit uh yeah i left here pretty sideways but but no words really had to be said no so even just sitting next to somebody just being there yeah that's important the presence is what matters and then i think for anybody that's struggling first off you matter there's a wristband that i wear it says you matter we matter i matter and i got this from a conference that i was at one of the speakers was handing these out and i think it's an important reminder because if you're in a place that's dark enough you may feel like the world's better off without you and the reality is the world is not better off without you you're struggling and there is somebody somewhere that you can talk to whether it's the suicide prevention hotline whether it is your neighbor whether it is your friend your pastor your boss whomever it is that you can make a connection with you're going to want to do that so admit when things are heavy and if you've got one homie if you've got several just get together so here's a challenge i have for all the listeners as i gave some unsolicited advice about how to help take care of your own mental health today find that one dude that you've got maybe you've talked to him today maybe you haven't talked to him in a week or a month or a year i want you to just pick up your phone send a text message and say hey you good and if the answer you get back is anything but can we talk ask again prompt a conversation so that way you can get into a real and honest conversation with somebody because not only are you helping them but you're helping yourself as well so i'm going to throw this out there for all of those who are potentially listening and you're having an issue the number is 988 you can dial 988 you can text 988 or you can chat 988 that is the suicide prevention hotline it's no longer a long 800 number it's 988 that is the number for help yep like you would dial 9-1-1 an emergency you're going to dial 988 in an emergency for you give it to your friends if you know someone who is in dire trouble and need some assistance give them that number better to be here than not indeed so that's an amazing segment i hope that people take that to heart i hope they understand and be patient with those who are struggling yep because you never know it's true you might have a friend who's very recluse and they're just won't tell you what's going on well pay attention even look at some of the famous people that we've seen anthony bourdain somebody we're both fans of he thought everything was right in rain seemed like it robin williams people that knew him knew that he was struggling but the people that didn't know thought he was the happy clown and he was anything but and there are several people that year matter of fact that passed so and they they took it upon themselves to pass which is very unfortunate indeed indeed so on to something silly yes let's so that was a little heavy that was that was our sappy side today sort of not accidentally serious but i wanted to get into am i the asshole of course we know the answer but am i the the asshole secret santa edition what is it about kyle let's find out kyle damn you kyle so secret santa the budget for the secret santa bottle exchange is 25 and we've talked about things that you can get for 25 and things that are difficult to get i think the going rate's about 40 benchmark foolproof yes green river just about anything that they've got and so this secret santa the budget's 25 and our guy sticks to it and buys a decent bottle that they found on sale okay their brother-in-law kyle always a fucking kyle shows up with a 90 bottle and brags brags brags and then milia calls our guy cheap well we started with a guideline 25 dollars but you know maybe maybe kyle doesn't know what 25 dollars is in bourbon he may not know he meant you know i saw a tiktok where there was a tiktoker who talked about um where did you start did you start on the bottom shelf oh yeah and we're on your way up you saw that okay so you get that it's like well remember that bottom shelf you know there's a lot going on for sure on that bottom shelf that would fit that program for 25 bucks well and i think their theme was not originally because the bottom shelf seemed like a place to stay away from and then as you get into it you realize not so much so anywho kyle is bragging that they spent all this money so calling our guy cheap so snap back secret santa is a secret and for fun it's not flex santa and now the family is split oh the question is am i the asshole simple for me i think that you said it right there was a guideline easy enough to follow just spend 25 dollars don't go above everybody wants to be included if you buy a shit bottle for 25 you bought a shit bottle it's a mixer now no big deal coke seven up whatever you want to mix it with have a party have a friend over share it that's right have fun regift it's allowed yeah and what happens you play along nice indeed you don't come and be in the dick that says hey look at how expensive i got you guys suck all right so it's kyle the asshole or is the family of the asshole for not getting along with kyle bringing over the more expensive bottle we'd like to hear some comments on that you you got to reach out to us via email uh comment on this because we want to know what people think so lumpy getting into your coming holidays you obviously have participated in one secret santa which you have not received the gift for yet what are your holiday plans coming up anything special or fun well thankfully i have the entire week of christmas off i was smarter than the average bear and then january 1 when our time at work came available to use i was prompt to jump on that and take the week of christmas before anybody else because only a handful of people can take off that week got to run a business so you got to get in there first um secondly i am just going to be i'm going to do as little as humanly possible enjoy the time with my family you included um and just try to be as festive and joyful and thankful as i can possibly be you know i i don't know really how much more i want to do i mean you know we'll we'll do some gratuitous things that we do every year like drive around looking at christmas lights on other people's houses sure people are cool on facebook and say yeah you got to go to this street there's great lights and look for someone that has the fm tutor and the lights and the whole laser show and there's some people just like lose their shit over that they just i don't even know how much money they spend on it but i'll do it one day don't worry i i know this i feel this yeah one day um but really um you know just enjoy the time enjoy the season christmas is one of my favorite times i mean i i love giving gifts i really you know my wife she says i'm the hardest person to buy for because i buy everything i want for myself already throughout the year sure and she's right you know she buys me the shit i really need right you know she gets me she gets me underwear and socks and t-shirts and well on that note we have last year really but this year especially we have implemented where we buy rather we populate a list of five things that we would like oh that's a great idea we think about what five things we would like and we put that on a list and we stick to the list as much as we can it's a great idea so this year is probably the last year that some of the magic is alive without going into too much yeah we can't divulge too much so we're going to take advantage of that as much as we can while we have it but then the magic changes as it has with our oldest the magic will change next year for sure so you feeling that the list i know it as a fact okay i know no it's and the the sign started right as middle school started so yeah it was a lot of questions like what about this do you know this what do you think about this i'm not getting those questions i'm a little nervous i think you're probably past that i would think i might have to venture that one well maybe maybe on the next episode when we know a little bit more we can talk about that that would be almost almost the new year's episode for sure yeah yeah episode 10 coming up to the new year's episode my goodness good milestone the decade right uh for our family we uh do the pajamas that match as often as we can we've done that for a couple years now you did that at our house last year we sure did all right so uh and then i am a convert on something that for years i was a diehard for so in your house real tree or fake tree so my entire life growing up as a child through early 20s 30s when you had to walk uphill both ways in in barefoot yeah it was a real tree series i moved here to florida and the first two years i got a real tree and you know i'm not trying to be that much more expensive here oh my god because they don't grow them here they got to ship the shit in they're very expensive here and it's like i understand the symbolic part about the tree it's you know and it smells so good in the house and when the c9 catches it on fire oh yeah you know um i went to my living room roasting with an open fire yeah so my wife she was one that turned me on to artificial trees i won't say fake i don't want to do fake let's say artificial so the artificial they're fake who am i fucking kidding but i like to say artificial because whatever um honestly as the years passed and technology has increased we have bought trees now i've probably bought three artificial trees in 16 years and i'm on my last one now that's dope it's absolutely dope plug it in it lights up mine's pre-lit pre-lit i don't have to put lights on that motherfucker of course we end up putting 16 more fucking strands on it oh we don't do that you can see it we put ornaments you can see it from space yeah um but and it looks nice don't get me wrong it's not gaudy um the only thing about ours that we loved when we saw in the store until we got home so we've had it this is our fourth season with it is it's got glitter all over it which means i have glitter all over me for four days so you look fabulous after you i look like a goddamn vampire out of the books what happens i make sure that i rub my chest all over it so that way i can glitter up just like what edward yeah but yeah so in short um i have moved on to the artificial tree it's just it doesn't make sense spending that kind of money to throw it in the trash yeah in a month you know what i mean and you got to take care of it it's almost like a month-long pet oh yeah for sure you gotta order it that's a really great way to think about it no so and then uh are you doing any secret santas at work or anything like that um yes we are and it is it's again a $20 i actually no i'm sorry it is it is in fact a $25 secret santa so yes well so no secret santas that i'm aware of outside of the bourbon that i've participated with um there are people that i have bought for um i got one set of gifts out to my parents or to my mom already i say parents because i'm used to saying that but it's actually the first year that i've only got one parent left i'm sorry buddy so you know it's these things kind of hit you yeah at different moments so um october was a interesting month because my stepmother and my dad's birthday are both in the same month so and my stepmom was gone in 2019 my dad this year so that's different it's gonna be a tough year for you christmas time here just uh um not with the right people yeah i understand it's still tough sure it doesn't it doesn't it doesn't get better it gets easier for sure yeah so it's um it's like when you just get past 30 you just used to dealing with pain all the time yeah we talked about that yep so i know exactly how old i am because of how i feel when i wake up not rested and still in pain oh yeah so i feel it it's uh but i i think we're gonna spend time with our friends our family we also took the week off so we're gonna go do some sea world stuff um which we haven't been for quite some time even though we've been pass holders for a long while and we still enjoy going to the park one of the things we like most about the park this time of year is the christmas lights that they light up and going across that lake yeah and all the trees that are going little christmas shows and whatnot so i've never been i gotta go check that out so and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than disney yeah so i mean what we spend on now we paid monthly for it instead of just buying uh annual passes every year but what we spend is one quarter what you spend on disney and this is as a florida resident so thanks for looking out for us disney right yeah maximizing tourism so i think that kind of wraps us up my friend so what i would say is um yeah we had some great conversation two very good pours um like i said earlier i absolutely recommend that everybody get a hold of kings county distillery if you get the chance and the 13th colony cask strength yes southern rye whiskey well let me just say this straight bourbon is so good i want to see what the right expressions are and you might know a little bit about new york rise so yeah well we haven't really uh we really haven't dove into the empire rise yet we definitely need to do that so x i just want to recap one important part of this entire podcast is that if you or a friend or someone you know is in distress the number is 988 you can call it you can text it and you can chat with a live counselor and please just remember you matter and we're better off with you here all right folks that's episode nine in the bag holidays are coming in hot the whiskey's flowing and life's too damn short to bottle everything up so reach out to your people unwrap something good and remember whether you're the cheap guest champ or the
