The Trail of Tears was a heartbreaking event in American history, where thousands of Cherokee women, men, and children died on a forced march from their homelands in the Appalachian Mountains to Oklahoma Territory in 1838-1839. As a registered citizen of Cherokee Nation, some of those who walked this trail were my distant ancestors. This short flute piece poured out of my spirit to mourn and honor those who suffered so much. Video clips: National Park Service and Cherokee Nation
