She wants to travel and become a flight attendant before making a decision. Miriam is studying multimedia programming and design and is interested in starting her own media company. She also wants to curate festivals and events. Day Day is majoring in human services and wants to become a social worker to help abused children. She has personal experience with CPS and wants to provide the help she didn't receive as a child. All three students plan to transfer to four-year colleges after BMCC.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to Our Plan From Here, the podcast where public speaking students at Borough of Manhattan Community College discuss their aspirations for the future. My name is Chris Moss, and I'm an adjunct professor at the MCC, and on today's episode, we're trying something a little bit different. We have three students, each with varying degrees of confidence in their future plans. And so today, we're going to have Naomi, Day Day, and Miriam discuss what they would like to do for the future.
So sit back and enjoy. Tune in live from BMCC library. We have Day Day. Hi, I'm Naomi. And so today, we're going to be asking her questions about her passion and her chosen route for BMCC. So what's your current major? My current major is liberal arts. What made you choose liberal arts? I just didn't... I didn't really know what to do, to be honest. I kind of wanted to do psychology, but then I was unsure if I wanted to do psychology or business administration.
So I decided to do business administration. And so I'm going to be asking Naomi questions about her passion and her chosen route for BMCC. Hi, I'm Naomi. And so today, we're going to be asking her questions about her passion and her chosen route for BMCC. So what's your current major? My current major is liberal arts. What made you choose liberal arts? I just didn't... I didn't really know what to do, to be honest. I kind of wanted to do psychology, but then I wasn't sure if I wanted to do psychology or business administration.

I didn't really know what to do, to be honest. I kind of wanted to do psychology, but then I wasn't sure if I wanted to do psychology or business administration. I just didn't... I didn't really know what to do, to be honest.
I kind of wanted to do psychology, but then I wasn't sure if I wanted to do psychology or business administration. I just didn't... I didn't really know what to do, to be honest. I kind of wanted to do psychology, but then I wasn't sure if I wanted to do psychology or business administration. I just didn't... I didn't really know what to do, to be honest. I think it's just the fact that I can just go to different places.
I wouldn't stay there for too long, but even if it's just for a day, just overnight, I feel like it'd still be nice. Do you have any spots that you would love to visit? I really don't know. What about Dubai? Yeah. Who doesn't want to go to Dubai, though? No, for real, for real. Okay, so after BMCC, where do you think you're headed? Are you going to graduate here, or are you going to transfer? I'm going to transfer.
I'm going to transfer. I'm going to transfer. I'm going to transfer. I'm going to transfer. I'm going to transfer. I'm going to transfer. I'm going to transfer. I'm going to transfer. I'm going to transfer. I'm going to graduate here, and then I'm going to do the flight attendant job in the airport. And then once I'm fully, I don't know, once I know what I want to do, I'll probably go for four years. That's cool. Do you think that BMCC will offer you resources to help you get to your goals? I think so.
It has. It's awesome. What's it called? No, it was advisement. Was your advisor good? Yeah, she was. That's good. And I'm thinking, well, that's why she wants to stay in river arts, so I can do, like, different, still, like, figure out what I want to do instead of just go for one thing. Hi, my name is Naomi. My name is Miriam. So what is your current major? My current major is multimedia programming and design. What made you choose that? A lot of things.
First, I was going to choose psychology, and then I was like, I don't want to be a therapist. Then I was like, I'll do video technology. But I was like, I already know video pretty, I have a good idea of video. I want to do something that's going to be a little bit more challenging that I can use in the future. So I chose multimedia design. I mean, multimedia programming and design. Do you think that's your passion? I think anything that has to do with media or communications or radio or TV or film, I feel very passionate about in general.
And I'm, like, really interested in learning about all aspects of things, because I also like to do things myself. So I want to learn how to do this, this, and this. Do you think you're going to go to a four-year faculty? I do. I do think I will. I think after I graduate from BMCC, I might take a break. And I don't know, like, I want to start my own company. I want to start doing my own thing.
So I'm not sure if I want to jump into a four-year or into another two years right after, just because, I don't know, I have so many things I want to do. But I do want to go to a four-year. I think I even want to get a master's, to be honest. Because I wouldn't mind teaching as well, like, having that as a little part-time gig or maybe a little professor for you guys two days out of the week.
It's cute. It's cute or whatever. Yeah. Other than that, do you have, like, anything else in your future? Yeah. Like, I see myself having my own company or companies in media. I see myself being an entrepreneur. I see myself traveling the world, sipping on cocktails on the beach. I'm sorry. I'm getting carried away. But, yeah, I do. I see myself doing so many really fun, amazing things. I want to curate festivals. I want to curate events and bring people together.
And, yeah. So what places do you, like, do you want to go to? Like, what type of places? I really love Africa a lot. Like, Africa is beautiful. It doesn't matter where you go. It's just beautiful. I really want to go to Australia and New Zealand. I really want to go to the little islands in the South Pacific that I really want to go to and check out. I like going to, like, very, like, traditional places.
Like, I grew up in New York City. I don't care about, like, the lights and, like, African buildings and stuff. Like, I don't care about that. I want to see how people, like, live. Like, I went to Columbia. I went to the village, okay. And I was eating with my hands. We didn't even have plates. They gave us fish on banana leaves. I like that. I'm like, okay, a little traditional, a little cultural. Right. That's what I like.
Do you see yourself living in New York? Part time because my mom lives here. But I would still come. Like something close here? Yeah. I would still. I love New York. There's no city like New York City. Like, anywhere I go, like, I love my city. Like, I would still come back. But I would love to live somewhere else, yes. I absolutely would love to experience that, living in another country or something like that. That would be really fun.
Thank you. Thank you. Hello, hello, hello. My name is Miriam. And I'm Day Day. And I'm going to ask Day Day some questions. So, Day Day, what is your current major? My current major is human services. Oh, nice. What is your passion? My passion, just in general, is to help people. I honestly want to help kids the most because I feel like if you're able to, like, help kids grow up in, like, a stable way or, like, help give them resources, then the adult life may be easier.
That's nice. And is that why you chose to do human resources? Yeah. Yeah, I want to become a social worker first thing and try working for, like, CPS to help, like, abuse kids and stuff like that. And then, like, figure out other ways to help kids from there. What is your, like, personal reasoning for that? Like, have you gone through something that makes you empathize with that? Or is there, like, someone that you know? Or, like, what makes you feel like this is something that you really want to do? Like, I went through, like, my own trials and tribulations with, like, CPS.
So, just, like, I feel like as a kid I didn't get the help that I needed. And so, like, in the future I want to be able to, like, be the social worker that will actually, like, help some kids leave a violent situation. Where do you see yourself after being CC? I don't know if I'm going to graduate from here, mainly because my major, the articulation agreement that I have is not really at schools I would want to go to.
So, I'm thinking that I might do one more semester here and then transfer to a four-year. Nice. What four-years have you been looking at? A Hunter and a Lehman. Oh, nice. Nice, nice, nice. Are you from New York? No. I am not a New York native. Honestly, low-key, I don't really have a place I can really call home. So, I moved around, like, a lot. I've lived in a lot of different states. But I used to turn that up depending on my mood.
I like that. Like, one day I'll be up in Tennessee, next day I'll be in Philly, next in Delaware. Like, pick a side. That's awesome. You know what it is, because home is where the heart is. Yep. You know, you make home wherever you go. Period. And that's all, period. Period. Thanks for sitting with us. Thanks for listening to our podcast. Hope you enjoyed. Have a lovely day. All right. And thank you, Naomi, Day Day, and Miriam.
