Balada de la cárcel de Reading

Oscar WildeOscar Wilde

"Balada de la cárcel de Reading" is a collection of literary works written by Oscar Wilde during his time in prison. After being convicted for his homosexual relationships and defiance of Victorian conventions, Wilde lost everything and was sentenced to two years of hard labor in Reading Prison. Despite the hardships he faced, Wilde produced his masterpieces, including this poem and a heartfelt letter to his former lover known as "De Profundis." These works were born out of immense pain and sorrow. While Wilde's prison experience gave us his most notable works, it also marked the decline of his creative abilities. However, it is through his descent into the abyss that the best of Wilde emerged.
