In Continental Africa, there is a tradition called the fitting room where girls go to become women. It is a special place where they sit on a chair and eat special foods to help them get fat. They also learn how to behave in front of their future husbands. It can be boring, but the girls understand its importance. To help girls and women look healthy and beautiful, people in Continental Africa send them to a fitting room. Fitting rooms are an old tradition and an important part of a girl's life. After a girl goes to a fitting room, her family and her village say that she is a woman. The fitting room is usually near the famous house or part of it. In the fitting room, a girl sits on a special chair until it is time to eat. There she sits on the floor on a mat made of lice. She also sleeps on the floor. Her mother gives her blows of food like rice, eggs and beans, the kids of lords. That helps her get fat. She also drinks a lot of water. In the fitting room, the girl does not move very much. She can only eat sweets and butter. There only visitors are women who teach her how to sit, walk and talk in front of the future husband. They also give her advice about cleaning, swimming and cooking. It's boring to be in the fitting room for so long with nothing to do. But the girl doesn't mind. She knows that it is important for her.
