It's like telling a really detailed story about what we've learned and how we've learned it. Imagine you're writing this really cool story about how gravity works or how cells in our bodies do their job, but it can't just be any story. It has to be a story that follows certain rules and it has to be really clear so that anyone who reads it can understand exactly what we did and what we found. Academic writing, no matter the discipline, has a central objective which is contribution to knowledge. Academic writing aims to report new insights, theories or perspectives to a particular field of study.
