The NBA Dunk Contest is not as exciting as it used to be. One problem is that the prize money for winning is only $50,000, which is not enough to attract superstar players. Increasing the prize money and using more props in the contest could make it more exciting. Another suggestion is to host the contest every two to three seasons instead of every year to give time for new dunks to be created. Fans want to see star players like Zion Williamson, John Morant, and Zach Levine in the contest, but they are not participating because of the low prize money. The judging in the contest is also a problem, with bias and unfair scores. A dream dunk contest would include Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Vince Carter, and LeBron James. Yo, what's good y'all it's Johno back from Top Boss Intro and in today's video I'm going to be going over the NBA Dunk Contest and really just what's wrong with it. So just last night at the recording of this video, Matt McClung won his back-to-back title of being the NBA Dunk Contest Champion. And it was a decent overall dunk contest but it really is never exciting as it really truly used to be. And one huge problem that I would have to say right now for the dunk contest is they're not paying enough money for superstars to be able to even actually make it to dunk contest. Because these stars are only getting $50,000 if they win and that is just not a good reward at all and it's not attracting any stars to be able to want to do it. So let's say one solution is just upping the overall value of the prize that you get if you win the dunk contest because it does take a lot of physical capability to be able to do those dunks and make that happen. Because a lot of stars are scared of getting injured for it and just only making $50,000 is definitely not worth that especially considering how much a player makes in today's NBA. And real quick if you guys have not already make sure you guys give a like on this video because it helps produce more and more content just like this. Now let's get right back into the video. And honestly one thing about this year's dunk contest is I was honestly really truly pretty shocked whenever we saw Jalen Brown accept the invite to be in it considering he's literally one of the most paid players right now. And he literally just got signed last summer for $304 million for 5 years. And I just kind of wanted to put that out there and really just a true shout out to Jalen Brown for wanting to be able to even do it. Even though his dunks weren't impressive really at all in my opinion because he was dunking over people like Kai Sinat sitting down in a chair. It really wasn't that impressive but I'd still say shout out to him for even attempting to be in this dunk contest. And another problem with the dunk contest is everything has really truly been played out because there's been so many different variations of dunks throughout these years. I mean that everyone's tried and attempted so far. And it's just really hard to be creative especially with just normal dunks without even having to use props. And that kind of takes me to the next kind of a problem that I feel like is needed to address within these dunk contests is I feel like more props need to just be used in these dunk contests because I don't feel like we're getting enough of those. And I just feel like it builds more excitement towards this contest. And kind of since everything has been played out and all that, I feel like they should not have to do it every single year. And I feel like the dunk contest should be hosted maybe every two to three seasons. Because for example, back in 1998, David Stern canceled the NBA dunk contest after a horrible dunk contest from 1997 which was one of the worst dunk contests of all time. And they took a break for a few seasons, came back in the 1999-2000 season, and Vince Carter put on one of the greatest dunking performances of all time in a slam dunk contest. And he just changed the game. And this is just kind of one key reason on why I feel like the dunk contest should just set back and just take a little bit of a break maybe for a season or two. And then make a return. Because I just feel like it would benefit really in general and just give us more of a refresher and be able to come up with different types of dunks. Because we're getting tired of seeing the same old stuff year after year. And just like I said, I just think that the NBA should pay these guys some more. Especially participating in this type of contest because it's a lot more physical than the three point contest. And you definitely have a chance of getting hurt a lot more. And honestly, I think we're getting tired of seeing Matt McClung year in and year out for these past two seasons win the dunk contest pretty much with ease. And it really seems like that's all Matt McClung is really even in the league for is just to get called in for the dunk contest every single season now. And we just really want to see those star guys in the dunk contest. Like those Zion's, you know, John Morant. You know, even Zach Levine if he was healthy. I mean there's just so many guys that could be in the dunk contest right now. And even like Anthony Edwards. There's just so many different types of dunkers. But we just can't really see them because, you know, obviously the NBA is just not paying them enough to do it. And $50,000, yeah, definitely just ain't going to cut it. And I'll be the one to say it. I really miss the old school dunk contest. Whenever I was growing up, right now I just turned 21. So I kind of grew up watching the early 2010s, like, you know, type of dunk contest. And they were just so exciting. And one of my favorite first like dunk contests that I remember personally watching was Blake Griffin dunking over that Kia. That was probably one of my favorite dunk contests of all time. And also I remember being so excited whenever John Wall won the dunk contest in 2014. When I believe he dunked over the Wizards mascot. And it's crazy, in that 2014 dunk contest we got to see other guys than John Wall. We got to even see Damian Lillard and Paul George, which is honestly crazy, all in one dunk contest. And in 2015 to 16 we got to see Zach Levine win back-to-back titles. And in 2016 I feel like it was really iffy because I feel like Aaron Gordon got robbed on that one. Because he had one of the craziest dunks of all time. Whenever he jumped over the Orlando Magic mascot and put it underneath the legs in a crazy, unrealistic looking dunk. And don't get me wrong, Zach Levine definitely had, you know, a really good dunk contest in this one. I just feel like Aaron Gordon had the better overall dunks. And I just think that he deserved it. Especially in the 2020 dunk contest as well, whenever he went against Derrick Jones in the finals. I think that Aaron Gordon had gotten robbed by D-Wade and plenty of other people on all social media was heated about it that night. And if I had to say there was one more problem with the dunk contest, it would have to be the judging. Because some of the judges don't deserve to be judging these contests. Because, I mean, obviously D-Wade giving that dunk of him dunking over Taco Fall, which was honestly insane to me, a 9. I just feel like there was a bunch of biasness there, especially with Derrick Jones being his teammate at the time. And I just don't think it was fair. And obviously Aaron Gordon didn't either because he said he's not going to participate in any more dunk contests ever because of it. And he deserves every right to say so. But kind of moving off that topic, I wanted to go over my dream dunk contest. Which would be Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Vince Carter, and LeBron James. Those would just be my four because obviously Dominique is one of the greatest dunkers of all time. Then you got Michael Jordan who obviously can dunk from the free throw line. And he's also one of the greatest dunkers of all time. And then we get to see LeBron James that we've never gotten to see in a dunk contest that I believe should have been in there a long time ago. And I think we can all agree that we've wanted to see LeBron in a dunk contest at least one time. And also Vince Carter, I believe he revived the whole dunk contest as a whole. And I just feel like this would be a really exciting all-time NBA dunk contest. And let me know down below in the comments who would be y'all's all-time four in y'all's dunk contest all-time. Just let me know. And as always, make sure to like and subscribe and turn on post notifications. And I'll see y'all in the next one. And I'm out.
