Steve and Nicole discuss their preferences for working from home or in the office. Steve prefers working in the office because he likes face-to-face interaction, while Nicole dislikes remote work because of technical difficulties. When Nicole returns to the office, she discovers a new hot desking system where employees have to book desks. Steve is unfamiliar with hot desking and wonders how employees can keep personal belongings. Nicole enjoys the flexibility and meeting new people, but Steve prefers the stability of having his own desk. They agree that hot desking may not be suitable for every company, but it has worked well for theirs. Hi Steve, how's life? Are you still working from home? Hi Nicole, it's all good. I actually started going to the office these days. You know, I'm really not a big fan of working from home. I like talking to people face to face, rather than staring at the screen all day long. And which do you prefer? Home or the office? Well, I'm also not too crazy about all this remote work idea. I'd prefer to talk to somebody without having them say, Nicole, you're on mute. Me too. By the way, when I came back to the office, it was completely different. Our boss decided to make some changes and introduced a new hot desking system. Hot desking? Sounds like some kind of game. What's that? So, the basic idea is that you need to book a desk for yourself if you are planning to come and work in the office. It's just like booking a hotel room. It's also a great way for the company to save on costs. Hmm, I've never heard about it. But what if you have your personal stuff at your desk? Like I have a huge kept magnet collection, my favourite keyboard and chair that is ergonomically perfect for me. Do you carry it from desk to desk every single day? Hmm, I'd rather work at one place all the time, where I can leave all my beloved possessions. Well, I don't have stuff like that. At first, I was also confused about this, but then I've grown to like it. I meet new people all the time and even make friends with some guys from other departments. I don't understand how you can work in all this chaos with everybody moving all the time. I absolutely love the idea of peace and quiet and having my own spot. Hot desking is definitely not for me. You never know until you try it. It's not for every company for sure, but for us it has worked out pretty well.
