Technology has both positive and negative effects on our lives. While it helps us communicate online, it can harm our social lives and increase stress levels. Cyberbullying is a common problem. The movie "Searching" is about a father using technology to find his missing daughter. The film shows the family's happy moments, but tragedy strikes when the mother passes away. The father and daughter start drifting apart, and when the daughter goes missing, the father becomes determined to solve the mystery. You're on mute. A big question that is asked in today's society is how does technology really affect our lives? When I say technology, I'm referring to any device that uses the internet and drags our minds into something other than real life. Something that most people seem to not know is that other than the useful tools it provides, technology is a really dangerous invention that will one day take over the world. As far as technology helps us communicate online, it completely destroys our social life when it comes to real life. When an individual is staring at a screen for more than an hour, this slowly hurts their eyes and makes their brain fall asleep into the device. An interesting fact that has been confirmed by scientists is that technology can actually increase the stress levels of an individual when they've been using technology for too long. Sometimes technology can actually leave us feeling isolated when we've been staring at a screen for too long. A topic that has been occurring commonly throughout this last decade is cyberbullying. This is basically when an individual gets bullied online. Without the use of technology, this can't possibly happen. Now to the topic, searching. Searching is a screenwrite movie, which means that 90% of the whole movie is based on screens. This is proven as David Kim uses his laptop to track down his daughter, Margot Kim, who has gone missing. The movie kicks off with a montage of the Kim family in a beautiful environment. This is to prove to the audience that this family is currently in a happy time of their life. Although, a little through the montage, Pamela Kim is diagnosed with lymphoma. Her and David try fighting this together, although it gets too strong. This resulted in Pamela passing away. Resulting in this occurrence, David and Margot slowly start drifting away from each other as Margot grows older. The next scene after Pamela passes away, this is when the social life between David and Margot begins. Margot has just begun high school and feels like she needs to spend more time alone. David feels the awkwardness talking about Pamela in front of Margot as he deletes any messages that come to mind talking about her. This symbolises that Margot will never really want to talk about her mum in front of anyone. When David first opens up the 7 news page, a breaking news report shows that a hiker was trapped in a forest for 9 days after finally making his way out. This technique is used to give the audience a hint of what is going to happen later in the movie. Chaganty also makes this news report bigger than the other reports to give the audience a clear message. In the next scene after the news report, Peter FaceTimes David to ask him for a food recipe made by Pamela, although right in front of Peter's screen is a jar of pot. Chaganty also uses this to display to the audience what kind of a character Peter is. The next scene after the phone call with Peter is when Margot tries to reach David although he is sleeping. While she is dialling, the screen turns to a black background with colourful flowers. Chaganty also uses this technique to show that David is currently in a deep sleep and he is dead off. This is where the mystery begins as when David wakes up and tries to call Margot although she doesn't pick up. When David makes a call with one of Margot's friends parents, she says that Margot and her friends went on a camping trip out in the woods. David acts like he knows although this is breaking news to him. He does this to try and cover that he didn't know anything so that the lady he is speaking to doesn't think of him as an uncaring father. When it comes to the attention of David that Margot has unofficially gone missing, he calls the emergency phone line to report everything troubled. While speaking on the phone, he gets onto the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System website and he looks at the cases recorded by California. He finds out that 55% of those cases were not closed. He then makes the decision that he needs to be heavily involved in solving this mystery.
