A group of volunteers from Andrew Womack Ministries and CARES Bible College are introducing themselves and sharing their experiences with the ministry. They come from different locations such as Ohio, Singapore, Kenya, Malaysia, and Malawi. They are all passionate about studying the Word and are excited to be part of this online study. Hello, Mildred. Welcome. I see you've joined us as well. Hi. All right. So I figured, since this is a new study and not everyone knows each other, would it be OK if we started with some brief introductions as we get ready to go into the chapter? OK. Well, we'll do that. And then I'll just start with myself. What we're going to do is just say your name and where you're from and what your relationship with Andrew Womack Ministries or CARES is. I know that we're all volunteers for social media. But if you would like to share anything, if there's any other way that the ministry has impacted you or anything like that, that would be great. So I'll just start briefly. My name's Liliana. You all can call me Lily. And I'm in the Cleveland, Ohio area right now. I graduated from CARES Bible College Cincinnati last year as a second year graduate. And now I'm a phone minister for Andrew Womack Ministries. And I'm helping out with some other social media tasks as well. So it's such a blessing. And I'm so excited to have the opportunity and also to be here with you all. This is just amazing. What a precious time we all have, just magnifying the Lord's name. So thank you all for being here. And we'll just go ahead in the order I have on my screen, because I'm sorry that it's probably going to be different for each of you. But I have Anthony first on my upper left. So Anthony, would you like to introduce yourself? Hi, yes, I certainly will. I am a silver to lily graduate from second year from Cincinnati, CBC Cincinnati. And I live in Dayton, Ohio, and also in Singapore. So I live in two places. Right now, I am in Singapore. And I help with social media. I was active in New Christian Church for many years. Now I'm just having a lot of great time doing deep dive into the Word, attending Bible studies, and spending reflective time understanding the Word, and just getting new, fresh insight to what the relationship with Jesus means to me day by day. Amen. Amen. Yes, Anthony is a great friend and a fountain of wisdom and has been a great spiritual coach for me as well. So he is a blessing. Thank you, Anthony. Glad to have you here. And next, I have Lydia on my screen. Hello, Lydia. Would you like to introduce yourself? Hello. So I'm Lydia. I'm from Kenya. I'm currently a first year student with Cary's distance learning. And I'm just having a wonderful time knowing more about our Lord and just getting to lots of insight on the Word. Yeah, I'm happy to be here. Amen. Praise the Lord. We're so glad to hear you're in Cary's and enjoying those courses and just absorbing the Word. Praise God. And thank you for sharing, Lydia, from Kenya. Praise the Lord. And now I have Teruza on my screen. Hi, Teruza. Hi, everybody. I'm Teruza. I'm from Malaysia. I finished my first year in CPC online. And I helped out in the social media team. I did one year plus, I guess. One year to two years. And yeah, I love Bible study. So yeah. So, hey, why again? Yeah. Yeah. Praise God. Amen. Teruza, thank you for sharing. Glad to have you back with us. And now I have Francine. Hello, everyone. I think a lot of you know who I am. So I am, well, my affiliation with the ministry is I was a Cary student, an alumni, graduated in 2020 from Orlando. So I live in central Florida. And started as a phone minister and then came over to social media and helped with all the volunteers, such as yourselves. So it's just exciting. And I love to study the Word. And when Lilly opened up the opportunity to study Galatians, I was like, I want to do that and just connect with all of you guys. It was such a blessing. And just happy to be here to do round two of studying the Word. So excited to be here. Amen. Thank you, Francine. I know many of us probably know you, but it's always good to have a review. And we love you. And thank you for your leadership. Amen. So yes, we have Shannon next. Hello, Shannon. Welcome. Hi, thank you. My name is Shannon, and I live in New Hampshire. So I have been, well, part of the Andrew Womback Ministries and Charis Bible College, at least from the outside looking in. For about 14 years, I started listening to Charis and Andrew Womback and walked through physical healing through their programs. And I completed first year online for CDC and have since joined Army and am pursuing second and third year through their program for ministers. So I love the Word. And I'm excited to, I've never done an online study with you guys before. So this is exciting. I love to share the Word and mentor many young girls. So this is great. I'm excited. That's wonderful to hear, Shannon. And that's so awesome that you're involved in ministry and helping these women and girls. Praise the Lord. And I believe that all you're learning in Charis is going to be so relevant. And you're going to give them exactly that seed that they need to just know their loving Heavenly Father. So praise God. Thank you for sharing. And now we have Mary. Hello, Mary. Hello. Hello. Hi, I'm Mary. I'm in Malawi. So I'm sort of Lydia's neighbor. Not quite. It's three o'clock in the afternoon here. So I've completed my first year online of Charis. I'm getting ready to come and do my second year. And, yeah, I just love speaking to you guys. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I don't know that there's an answer that we can truly grab hold of and say, this is indeed the truth and that or that's indeed true because God didn't outline it. He didn't give us the specifics and so we can waste a lot of time, you know, being caught up in that. I was for years caught up in it and I've had to just lay it down because it was taking me away from my true purpose and my true calling and it was instilling fear and concern or it was, you know, so for me personally, I've had to let go of what I think is true and I trust that God's going to take care of me if there's a, you know, if there is a rapture, if there isn't a rapture, if there's a tribulation, if I'm, you know, so because I've walked that out. Okay. You know, that concern. Yeah. Yeah. Certainly. And, you know, I've been through those phases as well and thank you, Shannon, for sharing, but you know, I mean, I feel like, I mean, of course, it's all going to pan out, but I feel like there are indications in the Word of why it could happen a certain way, but based on the grace of God and the mercy of God, but you know what, that's my interpretation and I know that there have been, you know, other believers who I've talked with who disagreed with me, but it'll all pan out some way, so. But besides that, does anybody want to share if they have a direction or opinion on, now we're getting into, I just want to, you know, allow Anthony to have his question answered by others if they want to chime in on this, but I believe, you know, the Word has certain indications on, well, I don't want to insert my own opinion too much, but the others, let's hear from you. What I was going to say, Lily, is kind of along the same lines as Shannon is, like, I don't necessarily focus on the eschatology portion of it more. I tend to focus on Matthew 25, 1-13, where he talks about the parable of the ten virgins and really just about being prepared and being ready for the bridegroom to come. I mean, he's going to return for his bride, and so then are we going to be ready? So it's just a matter of positioning my heart, guarding my heart, staying in the Word, being the witness that God's called me to be, being the hands and feet of Jesus. So I tend to focus mostly on just the fruit, you know, bearing good fruit and doing what the Lord has called me to do. I don't know if that answered your question, Anthe, but that's my... I just want to do a pulse check on our group and see, and understand what's eschatology. Yeah. Yeah. I will. For me, just like my friend said, I don't bother with trying to figure out how it will be and all this stuff. As far as I'm concerned, for me, it's just loving my relationship with God right now, being in His presence, doing His work, declaring over myself that, just like Jesus did, that His meat is to do the will of the Father and to finish His work, and that is what I do. And for thinking about all this, I just look at the book of Acts, chapter 1, verse 7, where Jesus says, it is not for me to know the times and the seasons that the Lord has put in His own... Paul knew. So I just live my life. Amen. Yes. Praise God. We just lean on the Lord. Yes. And focus on our assignment, occupy until He comes. And we'll come back to this, but I just want to introduce a very special friend. This is Mary, who has just entered the session, and Mary is also a phone minister along with me, and we had the privilege of doing, like pairing off together and doing some training a month ago or so, and we had a lot of fun just interacting and learning together. So Mary is a blessing. Hello, Mary. I'm not sure if you can hear me or us yet, but feel free if you would like to introduce yourself or say where you're from. We're all so happy to have you here. Thank you so much. You're so kind, Dr. Shaw. Yay. It's good to see you. Good to see you, too. It was a blessing when we trained. Really, it's a blessing. So thank you so much for having this. I'm happy to be on here. I live in Virginia. I'm from Philadelphia. And like Lily said, I'm a phone minister. So I praise God for all these opportunities just to be involved, doing things, doing the things of God, being part of a Bible study, being in the phone ministry and all these great things, being part of the volunteer team, all these great things that life is allowing us to partake in. So thank you, Lily. Thank you, Uncle. Amen. Good to hear from you, Mary. Thank you so much for joining. Praise the Lord. All right. So we're just in the beginning of Philippians chapter 1, and we were talking about the day of the Lord or, sorry, the day of Jesus Christ in verse 6 there and just sort of getting into some controversy right off the bat. We were talking to Anthony, discussing various views and opinions on this. And it sounds like some of us are just saying, you know, whatever the timeline is, we're just going to do God's will and trust Him for now. Some of us have opinions on certain aspects of that timeline, but, you know, there might be certain things we'll never figure out until it actually happens. But I guess he was trying to just draw out some different comments here. So, like I said, I have my view. I know Andrew Womack doesn't necessarily teach on the rapture, the end times and all that, but he does have a couple of teachers who have mentioned it. I don't know if you all have heard all the teachings. I know I studied first year a long time ago, so I believe Wendell Parr believes in a pre-tribulation rapture and has taught on that. And he says, if you want to stay here and tribulate, you can if you want to, but I'll be out of here on the first toot of that trumpet. And I'm like, I'm with you there, Wendell. And then also, I believe Delron Shirley, who had a course which is now archived. It was on Israel, the key to human destiny. And he talks about Israel and its role in the current times and in the end times. And that was an amazing course. I highly recommend for all alumni to check that out in the alumni portal. But I believe he also had a pre-tribulational view on that. So, I mean, I know Andrew might not necessarily agree with all of this, but, you know, they're just varying opinions. I have my views, and you have yours. So, Anthony, does that satisfy your question? Thank you so much. I just want to get feedback from everyone. All right. All of you are different from me. Okay. Praise God. What's your view on it? No. Hey. Not fair. Okay. Well, yeah. For time's sake, we will continue on. But, okay. So, let's see here. Philippians 1. That was verse 6 there. And now, let's see here. Okay. So, Paul's talking about... I guess their partnership, they were able to, according to Seth, receive the favor of Paul's ministry. That's how they were partakers of his grace. They were in alignment with him. And every blessing on Paul's ministry was sort of puted to the account of the Philippians for their partnership and their support of him. And then it says, God is my witness. How greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. That's verse 8. So, he really, truly loved these believers. And it sounds like they had a great relationship. He appreciated their support. And he felt like they were in this mission with him, no matter where he went. Their financial support and prayer support. And his, for them, was all part of that same fellowship and grace. So, let's see here. So, yes, he prays for them in verse 9. That their love would continue to abound more in knowledge and all discernment. That they would approve the things that are excellent. That you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ. Being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God. So, he's praying that they would be loving one another in unity without offense. Oh my gosh, offense. That's a big topic we could get into a lot. I mean, I know Dwayne Sheriff has like, I don't know, 30-something teachings in one series on offense. And not taking offense, recovering from offense, processing offense. But, yeah, it's like, there's no place for that in, you know, the lives of believers in the community. Believers, although, unfortunately, it happens. You know, we just gotta learn how to process things with the Lord. How to magnify the Lord and Jesus' sacrifice above our hurts and pains. And, you know, one reason why Paul was so effective is that, as we'll continue to see, he was just dead to himself. So, if we're dead to ourselves and if we just, you know, honor others above ourselves, then we don't need to get offended or we can let it go if it happens. So, praise God. He wants us to live in forgiveness. Let's see here. Oh, yes, and then he talks about there, in verse 11, the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ. And that made me think of how we, for those of us who did the Galatians course, we talked about the fruit of the Spirit and how walking in the Spirit produces godly fruit. And it's through grace that we produce that godly fruit. Not by works, but, thank God, you know, now that we're not under the law, but under grace, we can now bear fruit unto righteousness. So, that fruit is just a byproduct of our relationship with the Lord. It's not something we try to produce on our own, but it comes from the overflow of our fellowship with the Lord and that others benefit from the fruit of righteousness in our lives. So, let's see here. I'm trying to move us forward, but it's hard to, like, there's always this tension between we need to go forward, but no, we need to stop and talk about this. Does anyone have any thoughts or comments on these sections here or any of these verses we went over? Just a comment from my side. Sure, Roy. Yeah, maybe just to answer, I need to say, praise God, we know the glorious end of the story, eh? So, my thoughts about it. So, you know what you just said also about offenses and how even Paul prays, and I'm praying for you guys not to take offense. I mean, for me, maybe just to keep it short, I think it's first-hand experience, you know, offense is a weapon that Satan uses even to try to steal the Word. The only reason you must know that offense is going to come is for the Word, not for you, not for anything, but for the sake of the Word. And it's amazing, I see Paul even praying for the Philippians, that I'm praying for you, that love abounds in you. And you can see that even pain, that opposite of love abounding in you is when you take offense. So, I think it's really, really important for us as children of God, just to be attentive to the fact that when offense comes, it's because of what you have, and that is the Word of God being bathed in you and bearing fruits of righteousness. And I think it's quite an important aspect in our work as children of God to be in mind that we must not take offense. And praise God for all the teachings and prayer that we have with regards to this. In short, that's what I'm going to do. Amen, and yes, love covers a multitude of offenses, and as Francine put in the chat, love is not self-seeking, it keeps no record of wrongs. So, if we're holding grudges, or if we're relating to people based on some past event, that's not love. God doesn't do that with us, you know. So, praise God that if we receive His forgiveness and love for us, we can walk free of that, we can extend that same grace toward others, but actually, you're helping yourself and freeing yourself when you do that. So, I feel like there could be a lot to say. I'm sure we've all had experiences on offense. If anyone wants to talk about that, we can. Otherwise, we can get into just more of the chapter. So, I'll leave one more room for one more comment. If anyone wants to talk about through verse 11, and if no one has anything, we'll just keep going. I will have one last comment. Okay, sure. On verse 9, it is very interesting. Your love may abound more and more than knowledge and all discernment. One of the dangers of going to Bible school, one of the dangers of going to CBC, going to Rima Bible College, or any Bible school, is that we are so filled with knowledge that we've got stripes, we've got patterned caps, we've got stripes on our lips, and therefore, we pop up. 1 Corinthians 8, 1. Knowledge pops up, but love edifies. That is the key. Guys, Smith will go through it, Katherine Kuhlman and all the great revivalists never attend Bible school. Never. They just hear the word, and the love will overflow from them. So, I think that applies for me as well, that I have to be very careful with too much knowledge and not enough revelation, and not enough getting into a relationship with the Father and with Christ Jesus. Then my love, if I don't do that, then I will always be one up, and I will hold that the love will not flow, and I will not be edified and bless other people. And just a quick one. I was in Australia last week. I was living with family friends of three pastors. One of them has a PhD in theology, and another one has a double master degree in theology. And I tell you, it's as dry as the Sahara Desert in terms of the life of Christ. And we were in another Bible study, and this guy called Ryan, the brother has a PhD in theology, a pastor of the church, does not believe in healing. My friend in Australia does not believe in healing, does not believe in prosperity. And they can agree with me on dogma and doctrine, but they will not go back into the Word and understand why Jesus came and died on the cross for me, and for the world. They never understand the love of the Father. So I guess what I'm saying is, every time we Bible study, we have the knowledge, but we must point to the heart of the Father. We must point to the love of Christ. Then, once we believe right, we will live right. Amen. Oh, yes. Thank you, Anthony. Absolutely, it's about relationship and revelation, not just head knowledge. And that's been a big factor for me as I've been a Charis alumni for a year now. I want to really know God. I really want to know the Word for myself, not just based on what someone else has told me from their revelation. So, praise God, it's a journey. And we've got to never become prideful in thinking that we just know it all. So we need to hear the Word again and again and again. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. So thank you, Anthony. And we'll move on now. I realize we're maybe a little behind time, but you know what? It's been a good discussion nevertheless. So we'll just keep going and see what we get. So, praise God. Verse 12. But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, so that it's become evident to the whole palace guard and all the rest that my chains are in Christ, and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the Word without fear. So, praise God. You know, even though Paul was suffering, he was perfected, he was imprisoned, he said, basically, everybody's now heard about the gospel through my son. Suffering, he'll kind of enjoy that. His brethren, the other believers, more boldness. They fall as a good example, and they're like, wow, it would be a big fear if he could do it, you know. So praise God for his, you know, example. And then he says in verse 15, some indeed preach Christ from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill. The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains, but the latter of love, knowing that I'm appointed for the defense of the gospel. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached, and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice. So, what do you think it means when it says that some preach Christ out of love and sincerity? I think we know what that means, but the envy and strife, what's that? Are people preaching Christ from selfish ambition? Anyone have any thoughts on what they think that might mean? Like that's around verse, yeah, like 15, verse 16, that they're supposing to add affliction to his chains. What could that be speaking of? Are they really preaching Christ in the sense that they're sharing the gospel in an honest way? Oh, yes, Mary, let's hear your opinion. Mary A. So, yes, I very, very, very recently heard it for the first time, and I believe it was Andrew Womack that said it. I don't remember, but it probably was, that this verse is saying that, and I never heard this before, that those people who are preaching Christ in pretense, I would have to look the word up, but this is what the person said. They said that this meant that they were opposing what he was saying, but in their opposition, they were still preaching Christ. They were saying this is what he is saying, or what he is wrong. That's what I recently heard, and that, it blessed me. I don't know if that's the right application, but that blessed me when I heard it. I never heard it like that before. Oh, amen. Well, thank you, Mary, for sharing, and certainly, you know, the way I see that, I think that that makes sense. Of course, they didn't have superior motives. It already says that. So, in Paul's day, when there was no social media, no TV or radio stations to broadcast the gospel, he said no matter how the word gets out, as long as they're telling about Jesus and the reason why I'm in these chains, I don't care if they mean it or not. If they're mocking me or mocking the Lord or not, he just wanted that word to get out, and I guess, you know, some of us might not be happy today knowing that others are mocking the Lord, but back then, you know, this message had not really, I mean, this was when the message was just starting to spread, and he's like, no matter how it gets out there, he just rejoiced in it, and I'm thinking, wow, that's pretty powerful. Like, I don't know. He wasn't offended in the fact that people, you know, were insincere or impure in their motives. He just wanted the message to get out. So, I guess that's one of the secrets to how he was able to continue to rejoice and stay in joy. So, that was interesting. Anyone else have any thoughts on that section? Well, perhaps it's referring to those that are out preaching and sharing the name of Christ, not to share the gospel, but to be in a following and to have a, you know, to get notoriety, their name out there. To receive their reward right here on earth, the wrong way, rather than for God to elevate them and exalt them and reward them. True, just following, and we talked about in, you know, the book before, Judaizing folks and, you know, the flesh and letting them follow that. But, yeah, that's true. Sharing the reason. Also, just that the word of Christ is getting out. So, let's move on for some good time. I know the introduction is 15 minutes, but I'm keeping that. Let's continue on in the word from verse 19. And let's see. You might have the word salvation, the word deliverance, or something else. Through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness at least. So now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death, for to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Alright, I know this is a very important statement he's made. Does anyone, what do you think he's saying? For me to live is Christ, to die is gain? He would not be ashamed no matter what happened to him in the body? That's pretty powerful. I mean, to me, I see that as like, he was pretty dead to himself, and he just was committed to the Lord so much that it didn't even matter if he lost his life. What does that imply to you? Or how do you think meditating on verse 21 would have an impact on your life? How do you interpret this based on your walk with the Lord? What does this mean to you? Is there anyone who hasn't spoken in a while who would like to chime in here? Lydia or Mary M. Or, let's see, who else hasn't spoken in a while? Teresa? Any thoughts? What does this mean to you, for me to live is Christ and to die is gain? I think that it's sort of putting eternity into perspective. Whether long term, you get to think, what is your life going to look like now and when Christ returns? That's true. Let's see. That's true. Paul had an eternal perspective. He wasn't focused on the things of this world so much. And it reminded me of how Colossians 3, verse 2 and 3 says to not set our affections on things on the earth, but on things above, because verse 3 says that you are dead and your life is hidden with Christ in God. So our true life is found in Christ. So praise God that we have that eternal life. It's already something we have here. So praise God we don't need to be focused on things that don't really matter. We can have that eternal perspective. So thank you, Lydia, for sharing that. Praise God. And then Desiree, I saw your hand up. Did you have a comment as well? Yes, thank you, Lydia. I was just going to say something similar to what Lydia mentioned, to have that eternal perspective. No matter what is going on on this earth, in our circumstances, in our current situations, to have an internal perspective to live is to bring more people and tell more people about the goodness of God. To die is to be with Jesus. So the whole purpose is Jesus, who is in our lives and that focus. So having that eternal perspective, knowing that the focus is not if and when and but and whatever it is that the water, like Peter looking at the water and looking at Jesus, the purpose is our relationship with Jesus. Amen. Thank you, Desiree. And yes, that's true. He was focused on eternity and what he could do for others. As we see going forward here, he's saying in verse 22, but if I live in the flesh, this will mean fruit for my labor. Yet what I shall choose, I cannot tell, for I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless, to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith that you're rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again. So he's saying, you know, I would actually rather just depart and be with the Lord in a sense, but you know what? I'm here for you, and I have an assignment here. So, wow. I mean, he has that eternal perspective, but he realizes that there is still work to be done. You know, he would love to just leave now, but he was there for those who would hear about Christ and accept that message and be transformed as well. And that's like the Philippian church, whom he had helped found and disciple them. And so, praise God for Paul and his commitment to the Lord. And he had such a relationship with God that he just, like, you know, he probably would have liked to just be like Enoch, who was just taken, and, you know, he didn't suffer death, you know. But he walked with the Lord, and he had that relationship. He had that relationship with God, and he was a fellow of grace. And so, that's what the people around him, those he impacted, also got to enjoy. And aren't we fooled then? Paul continues on his venture. But anyone have any thoughts or comments on, let's see, living for Christ or being here for others? What I was going to say, Lillian, is when I look at this verse, for me to live is Christ and to die is gain, it makes me think of, first and foremost, that we are born again. We have received the deposit of the Holy Spirit. And then, because we're born again, through creation through Christ, we have the Spirit. But then it always makes me think of the first fruit, which is love, and then it makes me think of where the first fruit is, which is operating in love, which is love as patient as kind. It doesn't envy. It's not boastful. It's not proud. It doesn't dishonor others. And so, we see clearly, you know, walking with the Lord, and we see clearly walking in love and operating in love. And that's really, you know, if God's purpose was for us to just be born again, why didn't He ask us to do that? You know, we're here to operate in love, to be His sons. And so, that's just what I always think about, is really just dying to ourselves and then walking out that love walk, building the kingdom. Amen. Yes. Oh, thank you, Francine, for clarifying and sharing on that. And yes, it's true that when we die to ourselves and when we start to live to give and to serve, we realize it's more blessed to give than to receive, isn't it? If you've ever had an opportunity to minister, and you know, like, God used you to speak to this person in that moment, or the Holy Spirit working through you, and you just knew, like, you were in the right place at the right time, that's a blessing. I mean, when we die to ourselves, and we live for, you know, serving and loving others, you know, we're blessed in doing that as well. Like, that's the main part of our purpose for being here. Otherwise, like you said, Francine, God could just take us to heaven now. What's wrong with that? So, yeah, we're here for one another to spread the good news, to be the hands and feet of Jesus on this earth. Right? So, we get that privilege. It's a privilege to be here and to serve the Lord. So, thank you. Amen. All right. For sake of time... Hi, Mary Allen. Oh, yes. Hi, Mary. Hi. Sorry, I got distracted. There's some stuff happening here. Oh, okay. It's just, yeah, when we're talking about, for me to live is Christ, to die is gain. There's been quite a lot of death. I mean, like, right now, we're in a situation of death. My own mother died about three months ago. During COVID, I had about six close relatives die. And it's like, when you're really confronted with death, it really brings into perspective your priorities. True. There's a poem, which is a poem by C.T. Studd, which goes like, I think it's like, just one life to, you know, it's only what's done for Christ will last. And I remember, so my brother-in-law died, my husband's brother. And I was with his wife in the bedroom, and she was looking at the wardrobe the day, it was just soon after he died. And she was looking at all these clothes hanging there. And she just said, these are all useless, just useless. And it's like, just the day before, they were things of value, you know, the things you wear, whatever. But just in an instant, they all became useless. So when I think of things like, for me to live is Christ, to die is gain. And, you know, Paul really had that perspective, that everything that we do, everything that we are, the only thing that matters is Christ, whether you're alive or you're dead. And in fact, he matters because this life is so temporary. You know, it's just like a flick of your fingers, and then you've got eternity ahead of you. So what we're supposed to be doing now is, you know, if you value things, like send it on ahead in a way, I know we don't really do that, but you store up your treasures in heaven because this life, okay, we're here for 80 years, 120 years, whatever, but we've got the whole of eternity ahead of us. So what really matters is whatever we do for Christ. That's the only thing that matters. So, yeah, that's what I think of when I think of, you know, for me to live is Christ, to die is gain. He's the only thing that matters, really. Amen. Oh, thank you, Mary, for sharing, and I'm sorry for all your losses. I just pray for continual peace and comfort over you and your family, that everyone would know the love and grace of the Holy Spirit. And yes, you're absolutely right. Death does put those things into perspective, but sometimes we need that perspective. So, you know what? Jesus wins, and there's no way a believer can lose when they die. You know, like Paul says, to die is gain. Dying is a promotion for us. You know, we just go to be with the Lord, to be absent from the bodies, to be present with the Lord. So, amen. Oh, thank you for keeping things into perspective, and for sharing, and just being transparent with us. Yes, we appreciate that, Mary. All right. Anyone else who would like to comment on this section, or shall we conclude with verses 27 through 30? All right. We'll keep going, like I said, for sake of time, just for today, and then next week, hopefully we'll be able to spend a little more free time at the end, just because we don't have to do introductions anymore. But verse 27, okay, so Paul's saying, So that whether I come and see you, or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind, striving together for the faith of the gospel, and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God. For to you, it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for his sake, having the same conflict which you saw in me, and now here is in me. So what I get from this section is the theme of unity. He's praying they would stand fast in one spirit, in one mind, be together in that grace, and that faith of Christ, and of the gospel. And then I see persecution here as another event. And he's saying, for those who believe in him, toward the end there in the last couple of verses, we suffer for the sake of Christ. That's not calamity and useless suffering, but it's suffering for the gospel's sake. And that's just going to happen, like it says in 2 Timothy 3.12, that those who are godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. And Paul is in chains for the gospel. He said, you all can expect to be persecuted in the same manner. He said, don't be terrified by your adversaries. If they're persecuting you for Christ's sake, that's just a sign that they're on their way to damnation, and you're on your way to heaven. He's just saying, you belong to the Lord, and that persecution you receive is just an indication of where people's hearts are at. I don't know, that's just what I get from this, but I'll leave it open in case anyone else wants to comment, or if you have any contradictions, or agreements, or whatever you'd like. Let's go ahead and hear your thoughts. Or does anyone have any just overall thoughts on this chapter, or anything we've talked about today that stands out? Anything we might have missed that you want to share on? Now is the time as we come to a conclusion. Does this make sense, by the way? What we've talked about today, or is this making sense to you all? Okay, yes. It is to me, so I thank you all for your contributions, and for a nice discussion here. And of course, like I said, this is sort of a survey. We can't get into all the things that we would love to get into, but you know what? It's still very good. And all right. If no one has any other comments, then maybe we'll just go ahead and close in prayer today. Last call for comments. I'll do the last call, please. Can I have the last one? Okay. I see you, Anthony. All right. Earlier on, we talked about some preach Christ of selfish motives instead of pure motives. And you were asking what your thoughts are about it. I think whether we preach Christ in a pure heart or with our own selfishness, Romans 1, 16 and 17, the gospel of Christ is preached. It's the power of God and the salvation. It's the righteousness of God is revealed. It's the seed. The seed goes out. The word, the gospel goes out. Our motive may be wrong. Our motive may be wrong. It may be of our own glory. It may be whatever it is, but the gospel goes out. And it is the job of the Holy Spirit to search the hearts of the people to receive the faith. Because the gospel, the word contains the faith and the power of God and salvation. So my point here is, really, we don't know. There are so many thousands of preachers and pastors out there. What are their motives? Right? But as long as the justification by faith, righteousness through the gospel is preached, the seed goes out. I think that is what matters to Paul. Amen. That's really good. Yeah. The Holy Spirit can quicken that seed, regardless of, I guess, whose mouth it came out of and what their meaning was. So, all right. Thank you, Anthony. Praise the Lord for his word. And, oh, it looks like Terza has put something in the chat. Paul is single-minded to the point that he is able to say, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Today's chapter is just in line with what the Lord has been teaching me to stay full of God. Amen. That's right. Paul had a single mind, a single mission. And thank you, Terza, for sharing your revelation and how this has impacted you. So, oh, how wonderful the Lord is. He is mighty and great. He is worthy to be praised. He is full of mercy. We love him. We love his word. And so I thank you all so much for a great first day studying Philippians today. I hope you've all had as much fun as I've had. And it was great, once again, meeting those of you who are new. And we will go ahead and close in prayer. Does anyone have any prayer requests? And if not, praise God, the Lord knows all of your needs. He knows what you're going to face for the rest of the week. And I know that as we pray together today, he's directing these prayers toward things we may or may not even know about. So let's go ahead and pray. Yes, Lord, we just thank you for your goodness. We thank you that no matter what goes on in this earth, these things are temporary, Lord. We thank you that we might have trials and tribulations here, but, Lord, you, Jesus, have overcome this world. That is awesome. And we're overcomers in and through you. So, Lord, we can rejoice in life. We can rejoice in death. We can rejoice in pain, in persecution, in imprisonment, Lord. We thank you that we can rejoice even if our beloved brothers and sisters don't align with us on certain things, even if they fall into just persecution from others, Lord, if they fall into error or folly in some way, if people turn against us, even those we love the most, Lord, even though that's painful. Thank you, Lord, that we see that we can rejoice in the Lord always. And, yes, Lord, let us be like Paul in that we know you so much that there's just no barrier, no separation, and that we know your love and receive it daily. Thank you that there is more than enough grace by your supply for every need that we have. I just pray for hearts to be open, Lord, to receiving your blessings this week and every need is met according to your riches and glory by Christ Jesus. Thank you, Lord, for emotional grace, for relational grace, for physical grace in our bodies, grace for our minds, Lord. Yes, Lord, we receive it all. And thank you for this awesome word. We give you all the praise, the thanks, and the glory as we pray. And we're excited about this time together and for what is to come. Yes, Lord, in Jesus' mighty name we pray. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Thank you. All right. So good to see you all. God bless you. Once again, the chat is open on Teams if anyone wants to contribute or share notes or talk throughout the week, that is there for us. So I hope you all have a blessed week and see you next time. Thank you. Thank you, guys. Bye. Love you all. Peace. Bye. Love you.
