Mike is calling Steve to discuss some misunderstandings regarding Corinne's involvement in a funeral and celebration of Debra's life. Mike clarifies that Corinne is welcome at the funeral and that there will only be one celebration at the mortuary. They also discuss the possibility of a visit to California and the need to update legal documents. They agree to wait for Corinne to call back and clarify things. Hi Steve, this is Mike. How are you? Well, I was doing good until I saw your email. Oh, are you on the road now, or is this okay time to call? Yeah, this is a good time, yeah. Okay, cool. Uh, the thing I'm misunderstanding, I don't know what, uh, is going on, but, uh, Corinne, she's supposed to call me back too. Uh, I don't know if she's thinking that she's not allowed to come to the funeral or whatever the deal is. That's not true. Um, well, we were originally planning a meeting in Las Vegas and we were going to drive up. I think, did you know that we're actually going to hook up in Las Vegas and drive up to Preston, stay over for the weekend. She had to get back for work, so we were going to come back and all was copacetic. And she called me and said that she was upset because she said, I guess, one of the, um, I think it was, I'm not sure who it was, Ann Hector was going to have a celebration of Debra's life at her home. And she was told that she would be excluded from that. And if she brought up the kids, because the kids were coming too, it would be hard, it would not be a good thing to show her kids that she couldn't see. That was basically the gist of what she explained to me. Um, she, she could, she could go to the funeral, but not to the, um, the celebration at, I think it was Ann Hector's house. Well, there's not, there's only going to be one celebration at the funeral, that's what she didn't understand. Um, we're going to have, I'm going to arrange for some food to be served at the mortuary. So, everything's going to be there, so it's not an issue at all. So, she just misunderstood. Okay. You know, somebody offered to, to have like a little get together, but I told them, no, I'm not going to do it. I'm only going to have the one at the, at the mortuary. Okay. Is, is there going to be any, is there going to be like, is she going to be excluded? Like, are people going to, I, you know, Steve, I'm not trying to create trouble with you, and the congregation, and you and your children. I'm not trying to do that, I just don't know. So. No, she's not excluded at the mortuary, that's why I can't do anything there. Okay. So, anyway, you're supposed to call me. Okay. Okay. Again, that sounds, I mean, you know, I think probably, if you could clarify what's going on, and we'll see what's going on. And, and, you know, it's going to be. After the funeral is over, we're all going to just get our family together, just get together at my house, or Donna's house, or Julie's, or whatever, wherever it's called. And we'll all get together, whoever cuts up my bail. Okay. So, is there, well, the thing I get, and we've talked about the exclusion before, you know, she told me that, and again, I'm just the messenger here, I hope that you do talk with Corinne. When Corinne Ross, and I think you mentioned it, Corinne Ross was going to visit you when you were sick, and they were told they couldn't come. I don't want to get in the middle of this stuff. I honestly, Steve, I like, you know me, I like the path of least resistance, that's just my nature. And I'm thinking, that's where I, that's why I referenced California, because then there's no question we can see you, and in talking with the Kramers, they're all, they haven't seen you in years, generally. I think, it's been years, and I'm thinking, I want to focus my time with you in California when you come to visit. You know, Fred's expressed the same thing to me. Jackson was disappointed, but that, you know, he can come to California or Idaho. But that's basically, I'm thinking, why even take a chance of something going awry, you know, because it would ruin the whole trip. It's a short trip anyway, and I'm not complaining, but it takes a lot of time to get there, and if it's going to be a negative thing. And I know, I know what you're saying is true, Steve, I know that you want things to go smoothly too. I'm just worried that if something goes awry, then, you know, it's going to turn out to be a negative thing. Have you ever done something, you've gone, why am I doing this, why am I doing this, and then it turns out negative, and you go, why the hell did I do that? I'm sure you, you know, we're both sold that's happened to both of us, and you kick yourself for doing something you knew at the outset would not be a good idea. You know what I mean? Yeah, but it's not going to be any issue. That's the martial arts franchise. Okay. And then we're just all going to, you know, our own family, we're just going to go home and visit our own home for a while. Until we go to bed, I don't know how long. And you guys have to go the next day anyway, I guess. Yeah, exactly. It's like, it was going to be a quick trip anyway. I, you know, I don't know, I'm trying to. It was also, the Kramers, there was a lot of people saying I'm coming, I'm not coming, that kind of stuff. So, I was looking forward to seeing, and I told Corinna, I would have had her captured for eight hours, I could have talked with her all the way up. She asked if I was going to drive. So, I would at least have gotten to see her, you know, for a couple days. And that would have been nice, and the kids would have been there. And I think it's such a short visit anyway, I'm just, you know, I hope that you come out to California regardless, you know. Because, as I mentioned in my email, Mariano, Elizabeth, Juanita, Rebecca, Ann Marie, all have indicated they would love to see you. I don't want to put pressure on you, because you may not want to. You know, I don't want to make you feel bad. Your wife passed away, and someone I love dearly passed away. I don't want to make this difficult, but I also want to make it a good experience memory-wise, you know. And I know what you're saying, and you honestly believe. I just, I don't want to go there and have something. You know, God bless the people. I like the people in your congregation. They're very nice. They're very loving. I don't want to cast any aspersions on them. I just want things to go smoothly, you know. Yeah, well, I can't see meeting somebody who won't. Okay. Okay. Alright, well, when are you and Corinne supposed to talk? What's that? When are you and Corinne going to talk? Are you guys playing phone tag, or? Say that again? No, you said you're going to talk with Corinne. Yeah, she's supposed to call me back this Tuesday. Okay. Okay, cool. Cool. Okay, well, I'll just wait. I'm going to be in a whole pattern, Steve. Regardless, I would love it if you came out to California. And, you know, we could visit the San Diego group, and Santa Barbara. I would love it. Regardless of what we do with Preston, I would just like it, you know. You know, you've got your own commitments, too. So, I respect that. So, please do talk with Corinne, and kind of clarify things with her. And, we'll see. Okay. Alright. How are you doing otherwise? Are you working right now? Are you back, going back? I try to time a call back to you when you need commuting. Yeah, I'm, uh, back to work today. Good. Good. I'll be working the rest of the week, I hope. Good. Just, uh, trying to take care of a lot of loose ends. I did sign out today. I have to, uh, take Andy's name off the keys for our house. I have to go to Crow Baytown, so. Oh, shoot. You know, I never did that. I never did that with Dawn. I never did that. She's still on the title of the house. Does that create a problem? Well, only if you ever have to sell it, or will it to somebody. Okay. Alright, I got it. That's one of my to-do's that I haven't done in 25 freaking years. That's what I just found out today. Oh, God. I thought because of her will that I was the beneficiary. Exactly. Exactly. You know, what my logic was, I was lazy, one. But two is, have you ever heard of this title theft that goes on? Where people will steal the title of a home, and I figured if Dawn was on the title, if you... You know, if you never sell it, or you never do anything with it, then at least that's something I... Yeah. If you get that title, you see today, both of you told me the same thing. Well, yours might be different. Idaho, because it's community property. Yes, California's too. California's the same. Okay, then you have to go to Crow Bay if you want to change anything on your name. Yeah, well, I still haven't done my own will or trust. I think... Well, that's what I... I'm going to take care of all that stuff, you know, in the next little while. So I just... You know, if I have another heart attack, that all needs to be done. You're going to have to take care of that. Oh, don't say that. I have the same issue, because Jackson... I was thinking I'm going to have a trust, and Jackson's going to be the executor. You know, something of that sort. So... It's okay to avoid Crow Bay if we understand who to trust, but... Yeah. It's a lot more expensive to do it, too. What's more expensive? The trust. Oh, okay. If it will, it's like half price of doing a trust to the trust that you have probate. The trust avoids probate, or it requires probate? See, I don't even know. Yeah, trust, you don't have to probate it if you do something. Because the way I understand about a trust now, you have to keep it up so things change. Yeah. I don't know. I'm just now finding out all this stuff. Yeah. Well, if you like your attorney or whomever does that, let me have their name. Because I don't trust anyone out here. I'd have to check with... If you know of a good name, just pass the name to me after you're happy and you're saying, yeah, these guys did a good job. Because I've been very gullible on that. And I just figured, again, if you have the title and your spouse's name, if someone tries to sell the house under your nose, that apparently that happens to people, and they borrow against the house, and then you get your credit record deemed because people are holding your house as collateral. So I go, okay, if they try to do that, my wife passed away, so that would clearly be something that could not happen. So I was not thinking anything bad about it. I'm not moving myself anytime soon. But yeah, it does create a problem down the road. So I guess I better look into that. Yeah, if you pass away, then you have somebody sign, somebody's name to leave it to sign for your wife. If you don't, they fill it out. They understand. Okay, I better do it. Okay, well, I better do it. Yeah. Well, it might be good to just put your title down there. Yeah. But they say that that's what she's got to do today. Yeah. I have to go keep moving. Oh. But Debra just passed away a month ago. Yeah. But you're married. That doesn't make sense. You're married. She passed away. So anybody who has a joint tenant is in the same boat, right? They're in the same boat. Yes. Oh, this is nuts. I have a primary beneficiary for her on her will. Yeah. Because of community properties, then everything revolves to me. But then if I can't do anything with her stuff, we'll put her name on it. Oh, my God. You know, that's just wild. I think this whole title insurance is kind of a fraud anyway. I remember when we closed the escrow on the house, we had to pay a lot of money just for title insurance. It comes to find out people can do it automatically without title insurance. It doesn't do any good. But I remember it cost us at least $1,000 to do that. A lawyer, if you have to go through probate, you have to have a lawyer. Yeah. So that's what I have to do now. I have to get a lawyer to go through the probate. Oh, God. And that's why I leave it like you did. I mean, I could have another heart attack any time now. You know, that means a big catastrophe to anybody else. Yeah. Especially if I don't have a will. And as Gary said, Oh, God. I've been putting it off too long. And that's what I've been doing. It's something I don't like to think about, obviously. You know, that's the way I've been. Yeah. And as long as I've never had a will, I never worried about anything. She had a will, so. Well, I better get off. You know, I have a neighbor who's an attorney. I don't know if you think you met Rick Madsen. Maybe I'll talk to him about it. And have someone do it. If you find out anything different than I found out, let me know. Of course. Of course. That's good. That's my job. Of course. Well, I hope otherwise you're doing well, Steve. Hanging in there. It's calm. And, you know, I just, you know, I hope things go smoothly, of course. And so, you know, please let me know what the current state is. And I'll talk to Corinne and find out what's happening. It's, I don't know, it's a quick trip. I feel bad about that anyway. And, you know, as I mentioned in my email, Fred wants to visit you. So regardless of how it goes during the memorial, you know, Fred and I want to come up with a plan. You know, Fred and I want to come up there and visit you. Okay. All right. And Jackson, for that matter. So I would like to combine that trip with when Rosalyn gets back to Salt Lake. Because it would be great if we could see, I'm not saying you and Rosalyn, but I'm just saying we could drive up, see Rosalyn. I'd like to meet Santiago just to scope him out, you know, figure him out. And then just... Yeah, just figure him out. And then obviously we're going to visit you. And if Rosalyn wants to come up with us, she's welcome. But I'm not going to, I'm not pushing for that. I want to visit you. I want to visit Rosalyn. And it would be nice to combine it into one trip. You know, that's all I'm saying, just combine the trips. So make it easy. I like easy these days. You know, I'm old enough. I like easy. All right. And how's everybody else doing? Is Jonathan going to come to the memorial, by the way? Who? Deborah's brother. No, he's going to do it on Zoom. Oh, okay. He decided he wants to go to California. Oh, really? Okay. Because I was hoping to... I haven't seen Jonathan since, my God, high school. Yeah. You know? And I had the fortune of seeing Donna like about eight or nine years ago. I don't know if you remember, but Donna got waylaid in San Francisco. So I went... Do you remember that? I went and picked her up. And we had dinner. She stayed overnight and continued on. I think this all... I don't know if you knew that or remember that, but that was pretty cool. So please, please give everyone my love. And we'll talk soon. Regardless, Steve, we'll talk soon. No NBA news that I have to give. Football, I don't have a clue. But I know that Fred's telling me they're signing... The Warriors have signed that guy that they got from Rookie League. And the Utah Jazz trade is dead. And I'm no longer a Utah Jazz fan. But I already told you that. I'm no longer a fan of the Jazz. But we'll see. So take care, Steve. Anything else? No. It's mostly after the fire, so... I'm sorry? I said nothing new other than we got smoked on the Oregon fire, Steve. I didn't even know that, but I was driving today. And I did notice... I don't know if it was like smog. But it was like... It wasn't like... Last year, we had really heavy smoke because there was a fire in Chico. In that area near Sacramento. And it came down in the morning. It would come down and make everything real smoky. And then I was driving up to San Jose earlier. And it was like LA smog. You know how it gets real hazy in LA? And you kind of look at the sky. In front of you, it's clear. But if you look against the hills, it's really hazy. And I thought... I haven't heard of any fires down here. So the fires that affect you are directly west of you. They're floating across. And I'll have to look at that. Because it was really bad this afternoon. We have a wind. The wind is picking up now. But this afternoon, it was pretty ugly. But I don't think that's from Oregon. I think we have fires to the south of us. Over in the valley. Yeah. I've got to go look at the map. That's pretty far if it's blowing from Portland. That's got to be at least 400 miles. Really? Wow. No. It's not that bad here. It's just freaky smoky. Not as bad as last year. Last year was just disgusting. There was smoke everywhere. And it was... You could smell it. It was so bad, you could smell it. This time, it was just the haze. So I was assuming it's probably coming from Yosemite. Out in that part of the Sierras and blowing our way. So I guess I should go look at a website. Okay, Steve. Well, thanks for calling back. I appreciate it. Okay. We'll talk soon. Okay. Thanks. Okie doke. Thank you. Bye-bye. Bye-bye.
