As long as you're a residential student, because when you're in Italy, you have to be a residential student. So if you don't live on campus now, you'll have your extra cost of what it would cost to live on campus. And then the other additional fees are there's an extra 1,000 added to your bill for the semester from where they buy a plane ticket for you. But if you have financial aid, it can be covered by that. So that's kind of convenient. So your out-of-pocket costs are really just like if you have to get a passport, all the costs for that, which I think came up to like $200. Yeah, just about. That's less. And then like $50 processing fee for your student visa. But the student visa process, they make really simple and easy. Like, OK, that's good. Like, you just give them the papers they need. And then they do all the work for your visa. Yeah, they bring it to the New York consulate, which is in charge of getting the visa for us to go abroad to Italy. And they're like really picky about the visa application, like crazy picky. So the study abroad office makes it really simple. This sounds like an ad for them right now. They make it so simple, guys. But they do, because you can go fill it out in their office with their staff to make sure that you fill it out properly. And there are no errors that the consulate will be like, nope, send that back. You need to redo it. Yeah, that's what I did. I filled it out with them. And I made sure, like, anything that needed my signature on it, I was signing, like, in front of them so I didn't mess anything up. And they just have, like, a very easy checklist to make sure you get everything that you need for the consulate. Yeah, that's good. I feel like the other question maybe would be, like, now we know that we're all, like, simply going into, like, our medical school. Do you think the school has enough resources to help you get there? Because for me personally, it's, like, hard. You get what I'm saying? Yeah. Like, we have a pre-med advisor, but it's, like, obviously no disrespect, but, like, it's, like, there's not enough resources given out by a pre-med advisor. I don't know, like, if you guys feel the same way. So it's not, like, your typical school where you would definitely come here for stuff like that. I don't know. I have not met with a pre-med advisor or anything because when I got here, I didn't know what area of forensics I was going into still. For me, coming into college was kind of not an impulsive idea, but kind of, because I had taken, like, that gap year, and then all this family stuff happened, and I was like, I don't know. But my sister was going to college. She's at some other school in New York. But she was going, and then that kind of sparked it. Actually, you know, I will go back. I do want to do this. But then I still didn't know, like, a major I wanted. I always enjoyed forensics and science, but there wasn't a specific field I wanted to go into. And then I can't even describe why or how, but all of a sudden this interest in science and specifically forensics came back up for whatever reason, and that kind of, you know. Yeah. Actually, the school doesn't give enough attention to students that want to go into, like, veterinary or go into medicine, any of that stuff. They're more focused on, like, taking forensics out, criminal justice, that type of thing, engineering. Like, it's, like, big on those. That's why I would think they don't give enough resources to our pre-med advisor to help us. Actually, I can see that, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There is a big emphasis. Or he's our, like, pre-health track advisor. So, like, even if you're a veteran, you would go to him. Oh, okay. That was my next question. I don't even know if that's, like, something that would help me, like, actually meeting with the... I think it would, definitely. He would, like, help you make sure your credits are on track. And he would try to find resources. He's, like, kind of good with that. Like, he knows some people where you could get, like, internships or stuff like that. So, it's not that bad. But I just think the school, if they had a hand in it, then we would have definitely had a lot more opportunities. Yeah, I get that. I agree. I get that. That is probably something I should do soon is meeting with the pre-med advisor just to make sure I'm staying, like, on the right track. Yeah, I feel like... I don't know. I... At least for this year, all of the forensic science, criminal justice, and fire science, and all of us meet with the same advisor. And he has so many of us. He's kind of over it. And, like, this is no disrespect because, like, for what he does, he is great. Like, he will sit down with you and meet with you and talk about whatever you want to talk about despite his busy schedule. So, he is great. Shout out to Randy. But with so many students, it's not as easy for him to be as involved as would have been helpful. And so, I know I had to go find, like, other people in the forensic science advising area and meet with them, which is, like, something I had to do, like, on my own and outside of what the school provides for us so that I could make sure I was on track. So, that kind of sucked. But I did meet with somebody, and they were fantastic. Yeah, I've only met with my academic advisor. I haven't even met with my dual degree advisor yet, which is probably something I'll do sometime next year. Because as of right now, it seems like I am on track. Luckily, I haven't had that issue with my academic advisor with them being very busy. My academic advisor is actually Professor Sellers. Oh, really? Yeah. And he's been really great helping me trying to figure out my schedule and stuff, especially because I was moving around credits to count for different things because I took an English class in high school, like, at a local community college. And for some reason, because of the type of writing we were doing for that course, it could count as an art credit. Oh, my God. Except my friend who goes to this school who took the same course at the same school, it was counting as her English credit. And I'd much rather take an art class than an English class. So I was trying to get those credits all moved around. And so he's been a great help by getting that done. He actually talked to our honors class about advising. Oh, yeah, he did. And was offering. I was wondering where that was coming from. I didn't know he was an advisor. Yeah, he's an advisor for biology students, which is a nice thing. I will say, as a first-year science major, who has, like, Randy, who has so many people, is there are a lot of, like, professors on campus who have expertise in advising who are willing to help you out if you ask, which is great. I will say one thing the school does, though, is sometimes they will change. Like, if you're a freshman, sometime before the semester, they might change your advisor depending on, like, how many kids each person has, except, clearly, Randy, who has a lot of people. Because I did have my academic advisor changed, and no one told me, because I needed to schedule a meeting. Because just before the fall semester had started, I got an email saying that my English class was canceled per department request. And then I needed to get it replaced. So I check my advisor. I reach out to them. They get it all figured out. And then a couple weeks into the semester, I wanted to meet to talk about potential classes to take for, like, this semester that we're in right now. And I had emailed them. And they respond back with, I just logged on to degree audit to check, like, get ready for, like, our meeting. And I realized, I'm not your advisor. And then sent me Professor Seller's email. And it's like, this is your advisor. Here's his hours. I'm like, cool. No one told me about it changed. That's good. I feel like a decent amount of people have that issue, too. Where, like, they change your advisor midway, and they don't even tell you. There's certain things a school does that they don't tell you, and it kind of just, like... You're like, it would have been great if I had it up there, right? You know, I... We're supposed to get, like, a change in our advisor soon. Like, Forensic Science, we get a faculty advisor for, like, our sophomore year. And they have not told us when that change is going to happen. And nobody I've talked to in advising knows when that change is going to happen. And I'm worried they're not going to tell us. And then one day, I'm going to be trying to meet with an advisor, and Randy's going to be like, girl, that ain't me anymore. Find out who it is. So do you guys have a favorite class that you've taken, like, of your science courses? Because I know we are all STEM majors. Do you have a favorite class you've taken? Whether that be one of the science courses you've taken or one of the others. Does that make sense? I feel like... But, like, it's very basic, so I can't even say anything about, like, anything micro-bio or genetics. But probably definitely Bio 1. I feel like that was... I don't know. I feel like the Bio 1 was kind of intense. For some reason, I felt a lot more intense in Bio 2. There's just, like, so much information, so much memorization. Although, like, if anyone of us took AP Bio or had some similar type of knowledge, then it would have been a bit easier. But I think it was that. And I think maybe an appreciation towards communication class. Like, I feel like nobody gives that to him. He obviously did a good job, like, getting people out of their comfort zone and speaking up type of thing. So I feel like that was a good one. Those two things. I think for content-wise, it was Intro to Forensics last semester. I don't care for it this semester. But I don't think that that's because of the content necessarily. I think it might be the way they've structured it is that the second half of Intro to Forensics is, like, a three-hour lecture on a Friday morning. So I'm not having a fun time. But last semester, it was, like, an hour and 15. It was, like, your normal period of time. And I also had Marciko. And I think that she made the difference in that class. But with some of the classes I had last semester, like, I took Calc 2 last semester. And I don't want to speak ill about any professor on this campus. But this professor I had for Calc 2 would literally watch students cry in front of him over his work and, like, literally be like, stop crying. It's not worth that. It's silly that you're crying over this. He had no empathy for us and was very, very rough with us sometimes. And I think that class kept me going because there were times where I was, like, maybe this was a bad idea. I think of the classes I've taken so far, Bio 1 would have to be my favorite just because of, like, some of the topics that we've covered. I also come from a very small high school. And so, like, especially in the last couple of years, the staff turnover rate has just been crazy, you know, ever since, like, COVID hit and stuff like that. And I think the last good science class I had before I came off to college was 8th grade science because 9th grade year I took bio and my teacher had an economics degree. And then sophomore year I took chemistry, but it was on Zoom, so we covered, like, significant figures, and that was about it. Like, we covered almost nothing. And then junior year I took AP chemistry, and it was completely online. And we could meet with the teacher, like, once a week for office hours if we needed help. Other than that, you were on your own teaching yourself. I'm not a good teacher, fun fact. So teaching myself, like, college-level chemistry in high school did not go well. I did the labs at home in my basement. It was not a great experience. And then my senior year I took physics, but we did not have a teacher with a physics degree. We had two high school science teachers. One had a chem degree, a doctorate in chemistry, and one had a biology degree. And so they switched off every year teaching the physics course. And so the teacher with a bio degree was teaching physics, and he did not like physics. So I did not get a whole lot out of that class. So coming off to college, being, like, a STEM major and not having a good science class throughout the course of high school is, like, slightly concerning because you really hope that, like, that interest is still there. As soon as I started taking a science class, I was like, yep, this is great. I also learned I'm not a math person in the slightest. So chemistry, it's been rough the last couple semesters. Definitely bio one was my favorite class. I'm so sorry, but I have to say, when you talk about doing chem labs in your basement, all I can think of is, like, breaking bad or something. I'm so sorry, but that's what I picture. No, I mean, I literally had a, like, table set up in my basement, and I had gloves, aprons, and goggles. Oh, so it was, like, breaking bad. And I would just come up from my basement, and my brother would look at me, and I'm like, what's going on down there? And I'm like, chemistry, chem lab guys. They sent me a box, like this big brown box, and it had a bag of liquid chemicals, a bag of solid chemicals, and a bag of equipment. And the only safety precautions we had is gloves, an apron, and goggles. That was it. We didn't have a fume hood, because they can't send us that in a box. It was probably the worst, like, safety-wise, not it. That's crazy. Also, the teachers did not read through the lab reports that we had to, like, we would have to write a lab report proposing certain things. So, like, we did one lab on pH, and we would have to mix stuff together and test the pH of it, and, like, with acids and bases, and, like, learn how that it would, like, be affected pH-wise, and we'd have to test it for pH. And it was just, like, common household things that you had around your house, like lemon juice or something like that. And my friend put something on there that she wanted to mix together, and her lab report got approved by the teacher, like, online. And something about the mixture, I don't remember what it was, that she wanted to mix just wasn't sitting right with me. I was like, please Google that. It makes a gas that you should not breathe in. And it got approved. I was going to ask, the box they sent with those chemicals, did they mail it? Yeah. They mailed it to my school, and then the school sent us home on the, like, I took the bus because I don't have a car. I drive with no car, so I just took the bus. And so I brought it home on the bus with me. Oh, I thought they mailed it, like, to your house. I was like, is that safe? They mailed it to the school. But even still, there's a difference because you still have to take it anyways. Let me check what's going on in there. Yeah. Yes, just open it up. This is a bag. I can't remember what chemicals were in there, but it was literally a bag of, like, the little vials and some were the liquid bags or any liquid-based chemicals, like, chemicals that were liquid, and then the solids and then a bag of equipment that included, like, your test tubes, your pH strips that we use for the pH lab, goggles, our apron. It was an interesting class, to say the least. Did you keep the glassware or did that get returned? Like, do you just have that in your basement still? So we actually got to keep it all. Oh, my gosh. That was probably one of the most stressful classes that I have ever endured. And to be completely honest, I went through it. I took out a couple things that I thought were cool, like certain glassware that I thought looked cool. I kept it. And then for the rest, well, and I took the chemicals out because those need to be disposed of properly. And then me and my family were cleaning our basement out at the time and, like, getting rid of, like, old decorations that we had. And we got this big dumpster just to get rid of, like, as much as we could because we were, like, deep cleaning. And I grabbed the box because I had finished the class at this point in time and I chucked it into the dumpster and it was so, like, cathartic. Like, it was just such a great feeling to, like, be, goodbye. I will say that we, obviously, you have to dispose of the chemicals properly. One of the bags stayed in my basement for a little while and we just recently got rid of it properly. That's crazy. I never, in high school, I never had to do chem lab. Like, that was not a thing. So I'm surprised you even had to do that but, like, did it in your basement. That's crazy. Yeah, we, well, I had chem during COVID and, like, just, like, high school chem. And so we never had labs. We didn't do any of that. And so then all of a sudden I'm taking AP chem and it's like, yeah, do these labs in your basement. And I'm like, we have labs to do. Even AP chem, though, I never, our school never did, at least. I feel very, like, an outlier right now. We had, in my high school chem class, like, I didn't take AP chem, chem labs. Like, what do you mean you didn't have chem labs? At my school, we had, we used to have two campuses because it's a small school. It's, like, a small charter school. And, like, there were 43 kids in my graduating class. And we had two campuses. And then one of them, the owner, we, like, leased it. And that either ran out or something happened. We didn't have that campus anymore. And so we all, like, 500 of us, it goes from 5 to 12, had to cram into, like, the one campus we had left. And, like, the tech classes, the art classes, like, they basically became, like, art on a cart. And they were traveling to the classrooms instead of going. Like, having a classroom to go to. So, like, the tech room became my chem room. So, like, when we finally came back in person when I was taking chemistry, I had it in the computer lab, basically. So there was no room for it. But we now have a brand-new building, which is right next door, that they just, like, remodeled. They spent a couple years doing it. And it's absolutely amazing inside. So now we, like, have fume hoods and stuff like that and, like, labs. We have everything we need to do labs. But by this point, I had taken pretty much everything. After being traumatized, I was going to say, after being traumatized, they set up a whole new area. Yeah, pretty much. But then by this point, once it was set up, because they were questioning if we, me, during my senior year, would even get to see the building, depending when they finished it. I only got to see it for a couple months. I had a couple classes in there, including my physics course. We didn't really do physics labs. I think the most lab-like thing we did is we had to do an egg drop until we got to, like, work in class on building it. And then we dropped them from the window. Did you guys have, like, labs in high school for other science classes? Like, I mean, I was going to say physics, but I took physics as a college course. So, yeah, we had labs. But even my, like, high school bio classes, we had labs. I had some for my high school bio class. Not, like, a whole lot or, like, nothing. The bio labs here are definitely a lot more lab-like than the ones I was doing in high school. But then COVID hit halfway through that, so we didn't do a whole lot. I think we definitely didn't have anything for chemistry. For AP bio, I took that in my old high school. So that probably would have been different. The high school that I went at and graduated at, it didn't have anything there. It was, like, I don't even know. I don't even know what we did. It was just kind of, like, lectures, quizzes, test exams, end of story. My AP bio class in my old school, we actually did, like, different labs with enzymes and all that type of stuff. Like, in the back of the room, they kind of had a station set up and all that type of stuff. Yeah, that was kind of, like, that was some of the things we did in my high school bio, like, with enzymes. Our midterm, we're dissecting flowers. We were going to do a dissection. We had, like, everything we needed for it. And then COVID hit. And then they were like, well, we'll be back in a week or two, so then you can do it after that. Right. We never went back for a year and a half. And so we never did a dissection. So, fun fact, the dissection, the pig dissection that we did in bio lab this semester was my first dissection that I've ever done. It was my third dissection, I think, because in, like, seventh grade, like, actual middle school, they were like, in our health class, they were like, let's have you guys do a dissection. It was just a cow's eye, but it was still, like, a crazy thing to hand. Like, I don't even know how old you are in seventh grade. Like, they really handed us, at that age, scalpels. And we're like, go crazy, guys. Have fun. I think you would have been about 13, maybe. Like, 13-ish. I actually think I was 12. Yeah, like, 12, 13. You would have, depending on when your birthday is, you would have turned either 12 or 13. Like, I know I went into seventh grade being 12, I believe, and then I turned 13 in March. I was definitely 12. I turned 13 that summer. So, I was 12 when they had me dissect a cow's eye, which I guess isn't that bad, but it does still kind of feel a little weird that you sat down like a bunch of 12-year-olds in a classroom and were like, here are some scalpels. I want you to dissect this.
