Program notes - “Pièce de Caractère” is French for character piece. Character pieces were a popular style of composition during the romantic era. Character pieces were composed to convey a certain theme or mood. This piece conveys the theme of love, and the mood of peace. As a homage to the late Bernard Herrmann, it showcases some of his most stylistic orchestrational techniques. The utilization of music to convey a theme or tell a story while being a concert work.
