Women's participation in politics is crucial for a representative and inclusive democracy. Progress has been made, such as Kamala Harris becoming the first woman vice president in America, but it took until 2021 for this to happen. This shows that women still face challenges and a glass ceiling in politics. Women like AOC who are assertive and have strong views are often labeled as aggressive and unlikable. There needs to be progressive change and support to encourage more women to run for office at all levels. Hi, this is Madison again, and I'm specifically talking about women in politics in America on this slide. I will be examining progress that has been made and the challenges that still exist. Women's participation in politics is essential for a representative and inclusive democracy, and it is important to understand that both sides have to be heard so that both sides can be equally – their needs can both be equally met. Women have been fighting for political rights for centuries in America. Not that long ago, women didn't even have the right to vote in America. So we have seen significant progress in the representation of women in politics, from the suffrage movement to modern-day women's rights. For example, we have a vice president – now that's a woman – the first woman vice president in America, Kamala Harris. And while her election was a landmark achievement, it also highlighted the fact that it took until 2021 for a woman to hold the second-highest office in the country. This delay just shows how far behind we are with women in politics, and we have yet to have a woman president. There is a very, very high glass ceiling in politics for women, and politicians such as AOC, who are very assertive women, who have very strong views on health care, climate change, and social justice, are labeled as too aggressive and unlikable. And the social barriers and biases on women in politics are so strong that there needs to be progressive change and active change, supporting and encouraging women to run for office at all levels.
