"After Long Grief" is a poem written by Madison Cawein, a poet from Louisville, Kentucky. The poem was recorded by LibriVox volunteers for their Weekly Poetry project in July 2012. Cawein was deeply connected to nature as a child, due to his father's occupation of making patent medicines from herbs. He wrote 1,500 poems and published 36 books during his lifetime, and his writing style was heavily influenced by Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats. Cawein was often called the "Keats of Kentucky" due to his ability to capture the natural beauty of the region in his works.
