The recent Synod and Synodality did not change or corrupt the faith because the Synod of Bishops is only an advisory body with no authority to change Church teaching. It is a group of bishops who assist the Roman polities with their councils. Only the College of Bishops and the Pope have teaching authority. While the Synod can give advice, the Pope would reject it if it goes against the faith. There are some problematic clergy in the Church, but ultimately, the Holy Spirit guides the Church. It is concerning that some people in the Church have beliefs against Church teaching, but instead of criticizing, we should focus on our own communities and clarify teachings. It is illogical and a lack of faith to believe that the Synod would corrupt the Church. We should pray for the Church, be informed about our faith, and strive to be saints. Did the recent Synod and Synodality in October 2023 change and corrupt the faith? A lot of Catholics rang the alarm bells leading up to the Synod and prominent Catholic figures came out with conspiracy theories, saying and thinking that the Church will go against the faith. Did any of that happen? No. Why? Because the Synod of Bishops is an advisory body. It is not an organized magisterium. It means that they have no authority to change Church teaching. The Code of Canon Law makes clear that a Synod is merely a group of bishops who, I'm quoting, assist the Roman polities with their councils, and that they only discuss questions and express its wishes, but they can't resolve them or issue decrees about them, unless of course the Pope ratifies the decisions on the Synod, which has never happened since Pope Paul VI instituted this form of synodality where a group of bishops give advice to the Pope. If it were to happen, it would form part of the papal magisterium, but the Synod itself has no power whatsoever. The Synod of Bishops is not the College of Bishops or the Pope. Only those two have teaching authority. So, everyone who acts in a dramatic way on social media, on the internet, saying and thinking that Church teaching will be changed and corrupted, sadly has no idea what they are talking about. Sure, the Synod could give bad advice to the Pope, and if that has happened, we are not going to deny that. There are some problematic clergy present, and it is sad that there are shepherds from all sides in the Church that are failing in their duties and that they are having this kind of doubt, when it is supposed that they also have to defend the teaching of the Church. We are not going to deny that. But, at the end of the day, the Holy Spirit is the one who is guiding the Church and God. It is not people on their own who guide the Church. The Synod has no authority, and if they theoretically advised the Pope to do something against the faith, the Pope would reject their advice, because he cannot go against the teaching of the Church. For example, if you woke up in the morning and you see that someone sent you a message asking you to tell your parish that God doesn't exist, or some other heresy, would you follow that advice? Does that person's recommendation corrupt your personal beliefs? Are you forced to obey them? No, no, and of course, no. You will ignore this horrible recommendation, of course. It is the same thing with the Synod. Whether the Synod of Bishops or a Protestant or an Atheist gives bad advice to the Pope, it is not relevant. The Pope will ignore it if it corrupts the faith. But we are not to deny that something that concerns us is that there are people in the Church who are having these kinds of beliefs and thoughts that are against the teaching of the Church. Because, sadly, knowing that there is a law in the Church, and knowing that there is a law that God has given us, they are following their own interests. And that's the part that we have to be worried about, but not only focus on the Pope, but also focus on our communities. Because what is happening there is also a reflection of what is happening inside us. So, that's another point. Instead of being, like, criticizing on social media, we have to check our house, I mean, our own parishes, because, and I say this in a personal way, in our parishes, there is always one or more people who are having these kinds of thoughts that were presented in the Synod. So, that's a problem. We have to fix, brick by brick, this stuff. And also making a community, and the whole Church, making a commitment and clarifying those teachings that many people have not cleared, and for that reason they are saying stupid stuff in the Synod, and that's the reality. We have to accept that. It is not only illogical to believe that the Synod will corrupt the Church, but it also exposes a lack of faith in the Church, as I already said. God promised to protect and guide the Church. He established it. Why don't people believe in the Church? Aren't Catholics supposed to believe what the Holy Spirit is saying, and that the Holy Spirit will protect the Church? And Vatican I, just to clarify, made clear that a papacy does not lead people into error. The papacy protects the faithful. It is really shocking that Catholics could come up with conspiracy theories that the vicar of Christ was used in the Synod to corrupt the faith. It is illogical and very failed witness. And we have to pray for the Church, not only criticize, and cry, and complain, but pray if we all are united, and pray, and also teach what we know, and start reading and learning because the knowledge is there. It's just that sometimes we are so lazy for doing it. We have to get more information. We have to be informed about what's happening, about our faith, about how to defend the faith, but mainly about how to be saints because that's the call that every Catholic and every person has in this world.
