The narrator recalls their 23rd birthday in Manhattan, where they lived with a friend and a girl from Columbia. They developed feelings for each other but hadn't acted on them due to their living situation. On this particular day, their friends came to visit and they had a fun-filled day exploring Manhattan and partying. When they returned home, the girl suggested their friend stay in her room, allowing them to be alone. They shared a passionate night together, even causing a mishap with a lamp. Despite that, it was the best day of their life and they are grateful to have experienced it. my 23rd birthday. I was living in Manhattan at the time and didn't have a care in the world. I lived with a good friend from college and a girl that was going to graduate school at Columbia. During the time we all lived together, the girl and I slowly started to fall for each other. Two of my very best friends just graduated from UT and was coming to stay with me for a week to party and have a great time. We spent the day laughing, drinking, exploring Manhattan, and ended the night out at bars and clubs dancing the night away. When we came back to the apartment, the girl roommate suggested my friend stay in her room and she would just sleep in mine. In that moment, we had never pursued anything with each other out of respect of the living situation, but I remember how vulnerable we both were. We kissed for the first time, touched each other in ways I had only hoped of, and had a night of passion that was very built up. I even tried to roll over in the middle of an intimate moment, causing us to fall out of bed and break my lamp. We laughed, got back in bed, and fit perfectly into each other's arms as we fell asleep. That was the best day of my life. I would love to live it again, but I'm just happy I got to have it once.
