The speaker interviews Ha, a center director, about managing staff, maintaining ratios, and using information for everyday operations at the center. They discuss reviewing hours of operation, number of children, drop-off/pick-up times, and labor hours. They also mention using reports and data to inform enrollment, attendance, and staff rostering. In terms of finances, they consider revenue from fees, dividing it into labor costs and budget for resources, facilities, and bills. I'm here with my centre director, Ha. I want to ask you a few questions about mathematical skills that may occur in your workplace. So how do you manage the elements of staffing at the centre? So obviously we need to review our hours operations, the number of children that are sent each day, as well as the drop-off and pick-up time, so then the number of children that we have at any given time throughout the day, as well as work according to our labour hours. And I'm assuming maintaining ratios as well comes into that? Yes, of course. So we have regulations that dictate the number of staff working directly with children according to the number of children, so we have to maintain that across the service. What sources of information do you use to inform everyday operations at the centre? So we have reports and data that inform us about enrolments, about attendance patterns, as well as the hours needed to roster staff. We use different programs, such as Datum, to calculate the number of staff needed using the attendance times. Can you go into detail in terms of managing financials of the centre? Sure. So we look at the revenue of the centre, which comes from the fees of the children attending the centre, and then with that revenue, it's divided into costs of labour and our leftover budget on resources, or consumables, or food, and things like that, or would go into the facilities, the rent, the bills of electricity and maintenance, and things like that. Thank you for that, I appreciate your time.
