The Conservatives faced a tough night in the elections, with Labour winning the Blackpool South seat. This is the seventh by-election defeat for the Tories. There are still more results to come in, but so far Labour is up three local authorities. The Conservatives are hoping for success in the Tees Valley and the West Midlands mayoral races. The UK has also committed to providing military support to Ukraine. Lastly, Gavin and Stacey will return for one final episode airing on Christmas Day. With the latest, I'm Kyle Fraser. The chairman of the Conservatives admits it's been a tough night for his party and it'll be a tough couple of days as more election results are revealed. Labour won the Blackpool South parliamentary seat with a massive 26% swing and the Tories finished just ahead of Reform UK. It's the seventh by-election defeat at the hands of Labour this Parliament. Here's the new MP, Chris Webb, who has told us that his win shows that the country is ready for a general election. Webb, Christopher Paul, commonly known as Chris, Labour Party, 10,825. CHEERING I declare Christopher Paul Webb duly elected as the Member of Parliament for the Blackpool South constituency. CHEERING While looking at the state of the parties in council votes this morning, as it stands, the Tories are down three local authorities, with Labour up three. There are still more than 70 results to come in, with around a third now declared. Mayors are also being decided in key races, such as the West Midlands, North Yorkshire and Tees Valley. Police and Crime Commissioner ballots have been cast in England and Wales too. Sky's political correspondent, Tamara Cohen, says the Conservatives will be pinning their hopes on success in two places. They have the mayor in the Tees Valley, Ben Houchen, and if Andy Street can hold on in the West Midlands, where things are very close with Labour, I think they will consider that a fantastic result. If they don't hold on to both of those, I think everybody's next in quite a vulnerable position. In other news, the Foreign Secretary, Lord Cameron, has visited Ukraine after the UK's multi-year commitment to deliver £3 billion of military support. David Cameron was in Kyiv to reiterate the UK's support to Ukraine. The visit follows the Prime Minister's announcement that the UK will spend 2.5% of GDP on defence and commit to at least £3 billion a year on military support to Ukraine. And in showbiz, confirmation this time from the writers themselves. Gavin and Stacey is returning for one final episode. Rumours in February that it was coming back were shut down, but James Corden shared the news, now adding that it's official. The BBC says the last ever instalment will air this Christmas Day. The sitcom co-created and also starring Ruth Jones ended on a festive cliffhanger in 2019. There's more news online at gado.co.uk.
