Labour Party candidate Chris Webb has won a significant victory in the Blackpool South by-election, with a swing of over 26% from the Conservatives. This is the third largest swing from Conservatives to Labour since World War II. Labour is also making gains in council votes across the country, which could potentially lead to a majority in a general election. Labour are celebrating what it's calling a seismic win in Blackpool South, with Chris Webb elected as its MP. The more than 26% swing was the third biggest from the Conservatives to Labour at a by-election since the Second World War. Reform UK was third. The Tories have said that the Blackpool South by-election was always going to be difficult, but Shadow Front Bencher Steve Reid says that even in England's council votes, his party's showing that it can win anywhere. The South West, the South East, the North, every single part of this country, Labour is picking up seats from the Conservatives in areas that would deliver us a majority in a general election, whenever Rishi Sunak is brave enough to call it. While looking at the state of the parties in council votes this morning, as it stands, the Tories are down three local authorities, with Labour up three, but there are still more than 70 results to come in, with around a third now declared. Mayors are also being decided in key races, such as the West Midlands, North Yorkshire and Tees Valley. Police and Crime Commissioner ballots have also been cast in England and Wales too. In other news, the Foreign Secretary, Lord Cameron, has visited Ukraine, after the UK's multi-year commitment to deliver £3 billion of military support. David Cameron was in Kiev to reiterate the UK's support to Ukraine. The visit follows the Prime Minister's announcement that the UK will spend 2.5% of GDP on defence and commit to at least £3 billion a year on military support to Ukraine. In Turkey, a British man is reported to be in a life-threatening condition following a road traffic collision. Eleven UK nationals are among 15 people hurt after two minibuses collided. And the hairy bikers have won a prestigious food and drink award, months after the death of Dave Myers.
