Bible (KJV) Apocrypha/Deuterocanon: Additions to Daniel

King James VersionKing James Version

The "Additions to Daniel" are three chapters that are not found in the original Hebrew/Aramaic text of the book of Daniel. These additional chapters can be found in the Greek Septuagint and the earlier Old Greek translation. They are considered as part of the official canon and are included in the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox Bibles. The Thirty-Nine Articles of the Church of England also recognize these chapters. However, most Protestant versions exclude these passages as they are considered apocryphal, and only include the text found in the Hebrew/Aramaic manuscripts that are available today. The three additions are as follows: 1. "The Prayer of Azariah and Song of the Three Holy Children": This addition comes after Daniel 3:23 and incorporates the story of the Fiery Furnace episode. 2. "Susanna and the Elders": This addition appears before Daniel 1:1 and serves as a prologue in early Greek manuscripts.
