From the Leeds Hacks Radio Newsroom, this is Brent Radio News. Good afternoon, it's one o'clock, I'm Oliver Bolton and this is Leeds Hacks Radio News. Leeds Civic Trust have honoured the late Nadine Senior, MBE, with a blue plaque. The blue plaque commemorates her founding of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. It also honours many of her previous students who went on to work in the arts. One previous student is professional choreographer Gary Clark, winner of a UK Theatre Award. He said it was no surprise to see Nadine Senior being honoured for her work. And also it wasn't a surprise that Nadine's getting a blue plaque. I mean this school has done so much for so many people all over the world and has changed the lives of so many that it just felt like the right fit. A clean-up operation on a 36,000-year-old mammoth tusk is underway at Leeds Discovery Centre. The tusk was found in Temple Newsam in the 1960s and is a key part of Leeds' prehistoric history. Jed Atkinson, paleontologist at Leeds Discovery Centre, spoke about the process which led the mammoth tusk to Temple Newsam. Yes, you have these sort of floodplains, I think it's an oxbow lake or something, which was here from the River Eyre perhaps. Ravels, river ravels, these things get washed into the rivers after the Thai and wash up in those sediments and get buried there. A Grade 1 listed building in the suburbs of Leeds was granted a £1.7 million restoration project funded by the Landmark Trust. Calverley Old Hall was considered one of the most at-risk buildings in England. The 12th-century home has been restored and rescued for new generations to enjoy. A Leeds shopping centre and food hall established in 1987 has finally closed its doors. The council put through a demolition plan to the core, aiming to turn the previously neglected space into luxury student accommodation. It's part of a plan to move student life from Headingley and Hyde Park back into the city centre. Fewer people are eating fruit amongst families and young people across the UK. There is a stark contrast in the age demographic for fruit consumption. A worker at the Headingley Green Grocer had this to say. The demographic is mostly older people, there's not many students that come and buy fruit. There's some families with younger children, but it's 35 and up, I'd say, that is the main demographic. We used to get about 50 to 70 customers a day. It's pretty standard, we've got a lot of regulars. England look to make it two wins from two at Cricket Women's T20 World Cup this afternoon. They take on South Africa in Sharjah after claiming a 21-run victory over Bangladesh in their opening group game on Saturday. In Rugby League, the Leeds Rhinos have already strengthened their squad for next season. They've done this by signing Samoa international prop Keenan Pelagia on a two-year contract. Leeds Touch Radio News, it is 1.02.
