The main ideas from this transcription are: - The importance of progress, growth, and expansion - Pivoting and learning from mistakes - Comparing stagnation to a stagnant river and the negative effects it can have - The importance of a positive attitude and belief system - The significance of handling lost points and setbacks - Dealing with criticism and negative feedback - Surrounding yourself with supportive people - Accepting that setbacks and challenges are a part of winning and progress Welcome back everyone. We were just talking about progress, growth, and expansion. And of course, we were talking about growth over destination. Remember, we were talking about pivoting. Remember that tennis player? You know, he only hit 52% of the shots. And so why would he have won 87% of the matches? It's about the match. And it's about pivoting. And it's about learning. And that is exciting. That's where you can maintain your joy no matter what area of your life you're talking about. Exactly. So now we're going to talk about expansion over stagnation. Wow, those are good words. Right. So expansion means that you need to open your mind to something, right? So in this case, the tennis player had to learn, get information from his opponent. So A, he had to observe his opponent so that he would see what he was doing, when he was hitting, when he wasn't hitting. Was he catching every, like we made reference to his backhand. So obviously he was constantly hitting, catching, or was able to respond effectively to the backhand. So what needed to happen is that needed to change because that's, you know, not where he was going to win. I mean, he could have stayed there, right? He could have stayed there and we do this. We stay where we are. We get frustrated and we get mad. Where does that lead us? It doesn't lead us to change. No, it does not. However, if we can pivot, then we can also release the frustration. We're not stagnant. I love how he talks about the river. Are we going to get to that? We can. When he talked about the river, think about stagnation. Think about, at the front of my house, there's stagnant water. What happens in stagnant water? We actually experienced that today when we were walking. We did, we did. Oh yeah, it sure does. Why does it smell? Bacteria grows. What else happens? Mosquitoes. Oh yeah. It's a beautiful place for mosquitoes to breed, right? It's not moving. It's not flowing. I think this is the whole point that he talks about. To be like a river. A river flowing. A river flowing. It goes all over the place. Right. When you think about a river flowing. But it's all moving in the right direction, in the same direction. We can't have bacteria there. We can't have mosquitoes breeding. It does not smell. If something smells in your life, ask yourself, is there a flow that's happening? It's very interesting. Isn't it? It's all about that. Sometimes it's about making that choice to say, I don't have control. Complete control over all things. I don't have control if I'm going to get a client tomorrow. I don't have that control. I have done the work. You believe in the process. You follow the process. And you make it happen. But I can't guarantee anyone that I'm going to have a client tomorrow. God willing, we're going to have the clients we need. Right? Sure. But it's all about. But if I was focused and say, boo hoo hoo. I don't have any clients. I don't have any clients. I probably won't get any. Well, that's what your focus is. And let me tell you, we've got a lot of energy in our excitement. And gosh, if we're thinking about, we can't do this. Then you're probably right. And you're not going to do it. If you're thinking about, well, I'll never get a client. And you're meeting with clients. It's almost like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Because that's also where your energy goes. You're sinking your own ship. We have to be careful where we're thinking. Absolutely. Think about the stagnation and what that stagnant water is like. It's pretty smelly. It's pretty smelly. So I'm going to say to you, if you're stagnant, then I'm going to encourage you to get flowing. Because there's a statement that I have from, I don't remember if it was John Maxwell, but it is a statement that I have everywhere. It's attitude determines your altitude. So how high you're going to go will determine how you're behaving, your behavior, your mental state. What you're telling yourself, your belief system, what you believe about yourself. If I believe I'm not going to get a client, I'm not. If I believe I'm going to get a client, I will. Am I going to get 100% of all clients? No. I might get 52%, but I might win 84%. Sure. Exactly. Those are numbers to remember. Right? So here's the thing. A tennis player could have been angry, angry, angry all the time about all the hits he missed. Sure. But he wasn't. So he shifted, he pivoted, and he found a solution on the spot. It's about thinking on your feet. And I'll tell you, that made a difference. That was his solution to win. It's about how you deal with the lost points that makes you a winner. Yes, it's about hitting enough points. Yes, it's about winning the game. But in order to get there, you first have to know how you're handling the lost points. Imagine if that tennis player had focused just on being perfect. He'd be miserable. Right. I have something that comes to mind when I was two or three years into my insurance business. I heard somebody in some sort of training talk about this. Instead of, you know, here we are, call night. You're going to call maybe 25 people. So what prevents you from picking up the phone? The fact that they might hang up on you. They may say no to you. All of those things, right? And this person said, why don't you expect 100 no's? That is your goal for the night. This is my call night goal, to get 100 no's. So this lady had 100 pennies on one side of her desk. And she'd make a call. No thank you, ma'am. No problem. That's her goal. Now she gets to move that penny over to the other side of her desk. The idea was to move 100 pennies over to the right side of her desk. And guess what happened in the midst of those calls? There were some yes's. Of course. In the midst of the no's. But was she deflated when she got a no? No, because that was her purpose. That was the goal. To find the no's. Right. Because in the midst of the no's, there's got to be yes's. There's got to be yes's. You know, there's so many things. So I want to bring back here. Again, we're going to keep going back to the tennis player. Because it's important. So this guy had focused on the missed balls. He would have lost the match. Which is why many people lose the match of life. Because they can't deal with lost points. They don't know how to deal with it. They choose not to. They hide their head in the sand. They can't deal with the criticism or the feedback. The negative feedback. Or, you know, what people are saying. The limited focus that they have. You know, they're projecting their thinking. The people that are criticizing you are projecting their thinking onto you. And you can't handle it. Now, you know what they're doing. Or why they're doing it. They're doing it because they're threatened by your progress. Remember, we said that earlier. They're threatened by your progress. It's always about your progress. They will nail you for not being perfect. You've got to remember, they're going to set some impossible parameters around you. And you won't be able to reach them. Right? And so, we don't want that. We want to explain to you what we want to encourage you. That people are doing things because they are threatened by your progress. So, you want to stick around with people that are going to support you. And that might not be the people you think. Right? So, you know, there are many types of people who can't handle the missed calls. Or the financial setbacks. Or the people who quit. Or the ones who take advantage of them. And that's a fact of life, right? If you're going to win. If you are going to win. Just get ready. Just get ready. Because, probably, all of these things are going to happen to you at some point or other. Yeah, yeah. You know, that's part of winning. And it's winning with money. It's winning in jobs. It's winning in business. It's winning in relationships. It's what it is. Don't forget that the best tennis player in the world lost every other point. Right. But won most of the matches. He learned something from the loss. He got information. A lesson. A move. He moved something from it. Knowledge about the other player. What he won't do next time. You know, if he missed something, he won't do that again. Or, you know, he needs to get quicker. Whatever it is, right? He's deducing information from the other player. The other person. The opponent. I'm going to not use player because it could be our partners. It could be anybody. Sure. It's a loss that he's making a progress. So, loss is mandatory for progress. Because if you don't lose, you can't win. I like that. We really hope that you found this enlightening. And we can't wait to speak with you again. Have a wonderful day.
