This is Diamond Emmons from WCCU Radio giving the Teal Nation news. The career fair is happening on Wednesday with over 80 employers. Spring break is next week and students are excited for some rest and relaxation. LiveWell Office reminds students to take care of themselves during the break. There are also various events happening on campus, such as a movie screening and discussion, a sober curious event, and a leadership seminar. The sustainability symposium will take place on April 9th. Hello everybody. It's a new week. Happy Teal Tuesday. You are listening to WCCU Radio, Coastal Carolina University Student Radio Station. And this is your girl Diamond Emmons here with the Teal Nation news for y'all today. Okay. It is Teal Tuesday as I said. And we got a new week, new events, and a bunch of new things to get into for this week. So I'm excited to give y'all the tea and give y'all the news for this week. I'm really excited. It's a lot of fun stuff going on on campus. A lot of good stuff. And for one, I do want to start off by saying that the career fair is this week. Yay! The career fair is going to be this Wednesday, February 28th in Williams-Brice from noon to 4 p.m. There will be more than 80 employers that will be parked on campus. And it's going to be full of students, alumni, along with those different employers and different companies. And the Williams-Brice parking lot will be available for those visitors to come as well as different vendors and things of that nature that will be here. And a portion of that will also be on Sean Clear Drive East. But plan accordingly. And I'm excited. The career fair is going to be really good this spring. And there are going to be opportunities for all majors there. So it won't just be one major that's being favored and things of that nature. It's going to be opportunities for all majors to be there. So if you are looking for something to do on Wednesday, why not go to the career fair? You know, you never know who you might meet. You never, never know who you might meet. So that is going to be on Wednesday. So if you need something to do, hey. Just gave y'all an idea. Also this week, we just want to, before I finish talking about this week, wait. Let's just talk about how spring break is next week. I mean, hey, I'm excited. I don't have the sound effect button, but I'm going to clap it up myself, okay, because spring break is next week. I don't know about everybody else, but I've been waiting on spring break, man. I'm not going to tell y'all no lie. I've been waiting on spring break. It couldn't get here no faster. And even still, I am crawling to make it to spring break. Okay, I'm scratching the surface. But we will get into that and more when we get back from break. This is WCC Radio with Diamond Edmonds. We'll be back, y'all. Hey, y'all, and we are back. You're listening to WCC Radio, Coastal Carolina University Student Radio Station. And this is your girl Diamond Edmonds here with the TLN Nation News, giving y'all all of the tea and everything we got going on. I'm so excited to get into the rest of this tea, get into the rest of everything that we have going on on campus for the rest of this week. And, boy, boy, boy, do we have a lot going on, okay? I will not lie to y'all, and we got a lot going on. But spring break coming up, and that's what we were talking about before we left, so let's just go ahead and finish that conversation because this is my favorite topic right now. Y'all, we have three days and counting until spring break. I told everybody, everybody asked me what I'm doing for spring break, da-da-da-da. I promise you, don't look for me because I will be under my bed, under my bed, unreachable, unattainable, unless you're my family, of course, unless you matter, you know. But I'm not, no obligations, no nothing. I'm going to be relaxing and catching up on a lot of sleep. My body is very excited for spring break. My mind is excited for spring break. I know all of these students. If you know a college student and you know spring break coming up, all they need from you is space. Not even just space. Just send a quick word up for them, you know. If you got a direct line, just send a quick word up because I promise y'all, that's all we're looking for for spring break. And maybe just a little, you know, check in, hey, how are you, and all this other stuff. But that's all that a college student might be looking for from you for spring break. But, yeah, so Live Well Office wants to remind everybody during spring break, take some time for you, take some time to reflect, rejuvenate, and just take a break from classes. But don't get your mindset out of school all the way because we do still have school going on. So don't get your mind, you know, all the way off school. But just keep in mind that we do have school going on, so you will have to come back to school eventually. But don't forget to wear sunscreen, drink plenty of water, get enough rest, and take some technology breaks too because during the semester we are full of technology. And I know me saying sunscreen might seem a little, you know, out of the ordinary right now because of the weather, because if you're not here in Conway, it's kind of gloomy outside. But we're not worried about that too much. We're just going to go with the flow. So we have that, and there is a timely care registration contest going on. So you have a chance to win a prize through timely care contest. Until March 2nd, students are able to register and create an account in timely care for 24-7, 365 access to medical and mental health services. And you can win a $25 Amazon gift card if you do so. You just have to log in with your CCU credentials, and you're automatically entered in. So go ahead and do that. I mean, I will say as a student, an Amazon gift card can go along with any type of gift card. If you give me a $10 gift card, that'll go a long way. So if you are interested, go ahead and register for that. Also, there is a Paris is Burning movie screening today. That movie came out in 1990. And if you love movies that are older or, well, it's not that old, but I mean, you know, some people might say that's old. But it is going to be a movie screening and discussion from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lib Jackson Student Union Theater in celebration of Black History Month. This is going to be put on and sponsored by the Pride Initiative as well as Women and Gender Studies. And it's going to be a captivating evening, and the documentary will be streaming. And the documentary is set in New York during the late 1980s. It's groundbreaking, vibrant, poignant. And you can just get a glimpse of different themes that will be introduced and talked about in this film, such as race, gender, social class, sexuality, and a lot of other things. So after the movie is over with, you feel free to stick around for a thought-provoking discussion that will be led by these offices, and snacks will be provided. So if this is interesting to you, that will be happening today from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lib Jackson Student Union Theater. And tomorrow, Wednesday, February 28th, there will be Sober Curious Spring Break from noon to 2 p.m. That tabling will be in the Lib Jackson Student Union Rotunda, and this is put on and sponsored by Shots for Recovery through LiveWell. And you can learn about, you know, the definitions of sober curious, what it means to be sober curious, and understand the serious health effects of binge drinking and identify campus resources for alcohol and other drugs harm reduction. Also going on tomorrow is the Spring Career Fair, which I talked about at the beginning of the show. But if you did not catch that, the Spring Career Fair is going on tomorrow. We do a career fair every semester, and this semester's career fair, I'm going to keep saying this and you can go ahead and put it in your notes, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Williams-Brice Building, Arena, Center, whatever you want to call it. And you can network with plenty of employers, some of which are alumni of Coastal Carolina, so they want to look out for their fellow Chanticleers. This is a great opportunity to get your name out there. If you have your own business cards, definitely take those. And you can always make free business cards with Career Services. That's a shameless plug right there if you did not know that. So if you are interested in doing that, definitely go to the career fair. It's going to be over 80 employers there. They'll be on site recruiting all majors with job and internship opportunities, as well as SOLD Leadership and Balance Seminar going on tomorrow from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Lib Jackson Student Union Room A202, which is the source. This is going to be put on by Libwell Shore Peer Educators for stress management tips and strategies to balance leadership with college life. That's something that I could definitely benefit from. So if you are a leader on campus and you need some help balancing your work life and your school life and X, Y, Z, definitely looks like the opportunity for you. On Tuesday, March 5th, when we get back from, well, this is during break, actually, but this is for faculty and staff that are listening. It's recovery ally training from 3 to 5 p.m. in Lib Jackson Student Union A213, and this is going to be put on by the assistant director for alcohol and other drug prevention education, Tina Narden, and it's an important training for all PD and professional staff. So that is going on during spring break, which is Tuesday, March 5th. But definitely be on the lookout for the career fair tomorrow. I cannot stress that enough. The career fair is a great opportunity for all students and stuff for all majors, and it's not just going to be highlighting one major. So y'all know how I've been gaslighting y'all about this sustainability symposium. Well, I could finally give y'all more information, and I am so excited to share. So the sustainability symposium, as y'all know, as I mentioned, is going to be Tuesday, April 9th this year. So this is the second annual sustainability symposium, and it's hosted by the President's Council for Sustainability and Coastal Resilience. This symposium is going to create opportunities for faculty, staff, students, and community members to hear from climate experts, explore research, and participate in panel discussions. You can join Sustained Coastal in collaborating with the people who are working at the local, state, and global levels to spearhead a more resilient future. The day is going to end with a Presidential Signature Series event, an evening with Dr. Ayanna Elizabeth Johnson, and we'll have our auditorium at 5.30 p.m. And while this event will be ticketed, it's definitely free and open to the public, so you can go ahead and reserve your tickets now. But the symposium is going to be sponsored by the President's Council, of course, Sustained Coastal, Aramark, and the HTC Honors College. There is no cost to register. Just go ahead and register. It's going to be all day from 10 a.m. to 7.15 p.m., and I will, of course, give you all more information the closer that we get to that date. But I can give you all more info now, so yay! But we're going to go to break right quick. Right what? We're going to go to break right quick. You're listening to Teal Nation News on WCC Radio. We're your girl, Diamond Edmonds. We'll be right back, y'all. I'm not going to say where I'm going. I always say that. So just stay tuned. We are back. You're listening to WCC Radio, Coastal Carolina University Student Radio Station. And I am your girl, Diamond Edmonds, none other than, and we are here. We're back. And I'm going to keep giving you all the tea. Keep spilling the Teal Nation News. Yeah, so basically I just told you all a synopsis of some of the stuff that we have going on for this week. But we have plenty more things going on. Like today, there is going to be an ethics event today at 4.30 p.m. This is going to be hosted by the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values. And there's going to be a roundtable discussion on the ethics of human and non-human relationships. Like I said, it will be at 4.30 p.m. in the Johnson Auditorium, which is in Wahl, and the correct room is Wahl 116 if you are a technical and you're looking for the room like that. The panelists will represent a variety of perspectives and expertise. These panelists are going to be Dr. Rob Young, who is a professor of marine biology and researches marine animals. Chris Donovan-Hayes, who organizes the Live Well office's Pet a Pups, which involves the use of therapy dogs on campus. And our last panelist, Dr. Nicholas Delon, who is the assistant professor of philosophy at the College of Charleston and studies animal ethics, animal minds, environmental studies, food, and social and political and legal philosophy. And Dr. Emily Humbert, who is the ethics fellow for Jackson Center, will host this panel discussion. So that is what is going on today. And like I mentioned, it will be in Johnson Auditorium. So today at 4.30, definitely be on the lookout. Now, I feel like I've been giving y'all a lot of information at one time, so we're going to talk sports because it seems like, you know, if y'all are like me, everybody loves, loves talking sports, and I'm one of them. We can talk sports all day. So I can't even go ahead and talk about sports without addressing the elephant in the room. It's baseball season. And I know y'all are all hyped because it's baseball season. It's also softball season. So there's a lot of different baseball and softball events going on. And just for a disclaimer, students, as you know, you get in free at all of these games. So let's act like we know. But it is still basketball season as well. So these are the events that we have this week in sports. For coastal baseball, all of these are at home now. So if you've got a pen, pencil, paper, whatever you need, I'm about to go ahead and give y'all everything. So all of these are at home. Coastal will be playing Campbell University today at 4 p.m. Then on Friday, March 1st, they'll be playing Liberty at 4 p.m. Saturday at 2 p.m. they'll be playing Liberty. And they'll play Liberty again on Sunday at 1. So this is for baseball now because it's going to be a lot. This is for baseball. They're playing today at 4 p.m., Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. The Friday, Saturday, and Sunday games are all Liberty. And today they're playing Campbell. So free admission for all students. Of course, as y'all know, you can use meal slots in the stadium. And they want everybody to pack the pallets because, like I said, it's Coach Gilley's last season. And they want every game packed, sold out, whatever you want to call it. The best venue, best vibes, you'll find it right there in Springbrook Stadium. So if you are interested in baseball or if you're like me, never really been to a game, but you want to go ahead and start, why not? We get in free as students. And, I mean, it ain't like we got a bad team. So let's go support our Sonic Leaders. Tomorrow the women's basketball team will be hosting James Madison at 5 p.m. And this is their breast cancer awareness game. So they're asking everybody to wear pink for Coastal for the Cure. Once again, this is our women's basketball team hosting James Madison University at 5 p.m. in the HTC Center. Also, following that, at 7.30 p.m., the men's basketball team will be hosting their international night. So this is presented by the Center for Global Engagement. And they will be playing against Arkansas State. So that is our men's basketball team. So you get a two-in-one special. So you got the women playing first, and you'll support them. And then stay for the men's game right after, right in the HTC Center. As for softball, they have a very promising lineup for the rest of this week. So if you got some pen and your pencil out, y'all know the deal. I'm about to go ahead and give y'all everything that we got going on for softball for the rest of this week. It's about five or six games, so I hope y'all ready. All right. On Friday, they'll be playing Michigan State at 5 p.m. On Saturday, they'll be playing Iona State at 4.30 p.m. Then Oakland on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, it'll be at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 11.15 a.m. And then on Sunday as well, they'll be playing Yale at 1.30 p.m. So I'm going to go ahead and read that again. Friday, 5 p.m. against Michigan State. Saturday, 4.30 p.m. against Iona. Saturday at 7 p.m. against Oakland. Sunday at 11.15 a.m. against Oakland. And Sunday at 1.30 p.m. against Yale. That is for the softball games for this weekend. Now, this is the part that nobody is really that fond of, but we're going to talk about it anyway because I'm trying to help everybody out. Okay. For baseball parking, parking restrictions will be in place for the QQ lot, which is Brooks Stadium, during all home baseball and softball games. A portion of lot QQ will be restricted at 6 a.m., and the rest will be restricted four hours prior to first pitch. So for all of those games that I mentioned, parking lots will for sure be restricted at least four hours before those games are started, and 6 a.m. for some portions of those days. And then for basketball game day parking, the HTC Center parking lot, which is lot AA, will be restricted four hours prior to tipoff for each home men and women's game. So, for example, the games that are going on on Wednesday, first game is at 5 p.m., so that means the HTC Center lot will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, so tomorrow. So you need to have your car moved from HTC Center by 1 p.m., but I do want to say that parking is going to be restricted before that, so definitely be on the lookout and be on account, because it might be restricted before then. That's just a little bit of help, because sometimes it's at four hours before, but sometimes they do start before the four-hour mark. Then just so you can be on account and on lookout, the Coastal Triathlon is happening on Sunday, April 14th at 7 a.m. This is going to be a 300-yard swim, 9.5-mile bike, and a 3.1-mile run. If you are looking for more information, you can go to www.active.com and then search CCU Triathlon, or for more information, you can contact Tara Josie at tjosey at coastal.edu. But this is for the Coastal Triathlon. It is presented by University Recreation. They want everybody to get involved. And, yeah, you got some time to think about it, but if you are interested, why not go ahead and register now? Also, by the University Recreation Department, they are doing first aid and CPR training again. This is going to take place Saturday, March 23rd from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and you can get certified just by paying $60 if you are from Coastal. And if not, and if you're from the community, it is going to be $80. Classes will be held at the HTC Student Rec Center, Room 141, and you'll be able to learn about emergency situations, basic life support, getting started with CPR, getting started with first aid, and real-life demonstrations. You can register at recreation.coastal.edu, and that's where you'll find information on the triathlon as well. So if you're interested in that, all of that information will be on there. Definitely got more stuff to get into, but before that, we're going to get to some music real quick, and then we'll be back to get a little bit more news, because you can never have too much, you know? You can never have too much. But that was all the mouthful, y'all. I'm not going to lie. That was a lot, but we made it through. We made it through. We are going to get to some music, like I said, and then we'll be right back. But you are listening to WCC Radio, Coastal Carolina University Student Radio Station, and this is TL Nation News with your girl Diamond Edmonds. We'll be right back. After this break, y'all, stay put and keep those headphones in, keep those speakers on, and we'll be right back. We'll be right back. Before you could say aye ten times. WCC Radio, Coastal Carolina University Student Radio Station, and this is your girl Diamond Edmonds here giving y'all the rest of the TL Nation News and the CCUT. Okay. So where did we leave off? Okay. The Office of the President and University Belongs to Student Affairs is introducing a new council to campus. So this is going to be called the President's Advisory Council on Community Engagement, and they're going to call it PACE for short, so P-A-C-C-E. And PACE is going to play a pivotal role in offering informed perspectives, valuable advice, and strategic insights to senior administration on issues related to climate of the campus, culture, and belonging. This team is going to provide advisement on semesterly and yearly goals to continue initiatives moving forward. So basically, there's going to be a direct line between the students and what post-docs want to know from students and, you know, how you see it in your eyes, but, you know, giving unbiased opinions and things of that nature. So there are going to be applications for students, and it goes for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as staff and faculty if you want to be a part of this advisory council. So it's not just going to be students, but it's going to be faculty and staff as well, just so you can kind of see how everybody is feeling about all the campus climate as a whole. The first round of applicant review is going to take place on February 29th, 2024. So if you are interested in being a part of this council, you got about a day left, a day and a half, maybe, to go ahead and put in those applications, and it's going to keep going until all spots are filled. So just, you know, helping everybody feel like they got a voice. So if you are interested, go ahead and fill those spots up now. Also, I know all students probably got e-mails sent to their e-mails, but if you didn't, or if you don't know if you got an e-mail because you didn't check it yet, which is completely understandable, because I know a lot of us are checking out for the most part, but there's going to be a new student profile update that is going into the registration process for fall 2024, and basically this update is just going to be a way for students to update their profiles. I said update like ten times just now. But it's going to be a way for students to make sure that all their information in their profiles is current and related to their profiles. So like, for example, if you changed your number, but you haven't updated your profile yet, now it's mandatory to update your profile, so there's a way for somebody to get in contact with you, and that's just an example, but that's kind of why they're implementing this new, what do you want to call it, this new program, I guess you could say, but you must update your profiles before you can register for fall 2024 semester. So, yeah, baby, you either go update or you're not going to have no classes. Simple as that. I mean, that's how they're doing it. So if you have the time, it won't take long, especially if you don't have nothing or no information to change. All you got to do is pretty much confirm. It won't take long. But you need to do that before you can register for classes. Speaking of registering for classes, it's about that time. We only got a couple more weeks until registration starts, and I don't know how I feel about it, but it don't really matter how I feel about it. I mean, at the end of the day, it's still going to happen. But before you can register for classes, not only do you have to go ahead and update your student profile, but you must meet with your advisor, whether it's in person, on Zoom, however y'all are going to do it, but you have to meet with your advisor in order for the advisement hold to be taken off of your account. If you have that hold on your account, you cannot register for classes. So that is something for you to be thinking about. And if you are thinking to yourself, well, Diamond, okay, I'm going to do all of that, but how long do I have? When do I need to register? I'm glad you asked because I'm about to go ahead and tell you right now. Okay, so seniors and graduate students, which are students with 90-plus earned credit hours, will register April 2nd and 3rd. Juniors, which are going to be students with 60 to 89 credit hours, will register April 4th and 5th. Sophomores, which are students with 30 to 59 earned credit hours, will register April 8th and 9th. And freshmen, which are students with less than 29 credit hours, will register April 10th and 11th. So, oh, and registration for the general public will open Friday, April 12th at 8 a.m. And that's like for students who took a gap semester or a gap year or any students that come back from any type of leave of absence. They'll be able to register April 12th at 8 a.m. once all the other groups have gone. And if this is your first time registering, the way that it works is that there are four groups that are split up. And it kind of goes off of when you meet with your advisor because that's when they'll know to, you know, put you in as early as, you know. If you went ahead and met with your advisor early, they already know that you got that out of the way, so you'll probably be in the first group of registration. Sometimes it's random. It just depends on the department that you go to and how they're going to do it. But basically, the way that registration works is, you know, there are four groups, and you register during a span of two days. So you're either in groups 1, 2, 3, or 4. And, okay, for example, if registration is starting on Tuesday, April 2nd, then group 1 will register at 6 a.m. on the 2nd, and group 2 will register at 6 p.m. on the 2nd. And it will be the same thing for April 3rd. So between those four groups, you're either going to register at 6 a.m. or 6 p.m. on days 1 or 2, if that makes sense. I don't know. It sounds kind of confusing, but it's really easy. And once you meet with your advisor, it will tell you what day that you're going to register. So that's why it's best to just go ahead and meet with your advisor because you don't know how much time you have to get your schedules together, and it is very helpful to plan out your schedule before registration. So that way, all you got to do is click register when that time comes because the farther up you get in classification, the harder it is to get in some of these classes that you definitely need to have in order to graduate and get them credits. Take my advice for it. It is real competitive. I have my little snack, and I don't move. I sit right there, and I wait. If I'm in the car, I try to be home because the service is so iffy. But, yeah, go ahead and map out those schedules. And if you are one of those too, but I like to plan ahead, the fall 2024 schedule is already available on, I was about to say WebAdvisor. That is old. Speaking of WebAdvisor, I have a mission. If you had to do a WebAdvisor, self-service is literally a breath of fresh air. I hated WebAdvisor. But anyway, the fall 2024 schedule is already available in self-service. So if you like to plan ahead, you want to go ahead and look at the schedule, do that. It's already available. Like I said, classrooms, everything should be updated, instructors, all of that. And, I mean, I'm going to look at the schedule, but I'm just trying not to think about it because I'm going into my senior year. That's crazy. But, yeah, you can go ahead and look at the schedule now. But before you do any of that, go ahead and set up the meetings with your advisor and go ahead and update those student profiles. You can do all of that in self-service, or you can go to set up the meeting with your advisor. You can do that at myCCU or through the Coastal website. But to update your student profile, you can do that in self-service. And it will tell you how. And if you can't find it, we all got e-mails to our student e-mail. Just search up new student profile or student profile update information. It's something like that. But you'll find it. It's in the e-mails. Just, you know, be on the lookout for that. Also, we should be hearing back something soon about the changes that are being made to campus because of the master plan that is being put into place. So we should know more information about that within the next few days because the Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet today and tomorrow. And the new things that they are talking about getting approved are the building that is going to be put in place for the CMCCHHP and the game day enhancements that are made to Brooks Stadium. So for the building, it's going to be about 27 acres of land, and it's going to be a 400-space parking facility, so kind of like a parking garage. But the budget for all of this is estimated at $53 million. So we'll know more information soon, but this new building is going to have labs, classrooms, a clinic, and much more. And the game day enhancements to Brooks Stadium are going to be like they're finishing up the end zone, a new scoreboard, a new display board, and a bunch of other stuff. But we'll have more information in the following days, probably by the end of this week, but for sure by the time we get back from spring break. And we have a break coming up right now. So I'll be right back with you listening to WCC Radio, Coastal Carolina University Student Radio Station, and this is your girl, Diamond Edmonds. We'll be right back, y'all, to finish up the show, listening to WCC Radio, Coastal Carolina University Student Radio Station, and this is your girl, Diamond Edmonds with the Teal Nation News. Just to go ahead and wrap everything up. So when we get back from spring break, there is going to be a new production put on by CCU Theater for the main stage season. This play is going to be called Three Sisters, and it's based on a literal translation by Elise Thorin. It's going to be in the Edwards Black Box Theater, and opening night is Friday, March 15th at 7.30pm, and the last show will be Sunday, March 24th at 2pm. It's based around three sisters, Olga, Masha, and Irina, and it's set in Moscow, so it's kind of like a Russian type of play. I'm not going to say too much without getting in the way, but it's got a lot to do with family drama and things like that. That's going to be March 15th through the 24th, so you can go ahead and either get your tickets now, or be prepared to get your tickets when we get back from break. And I want to say that's about it. If you are interested in going to the career fair, you have to RSVP first, but like I said, it's at 12 tomorrow, so you've got plenty of time between now and 12. But it's going to be from 12 to 4pm, Williams Brights, and that's for the spring career fair. There's going to be over 80 employers there, so definitely come with all your resumes and everything, your experience in your head, and come ready to talk and network and things of that nature. But that's all I've got for y'all until Thursday. Thanks for tuning in. Happy Teal Tuesday. And you are listening to WCC Radio, Coastal Carolina University's student radio station.
