Owens also formed a friendship with a German long jumper, demonstrating that countries could participate without discrimination. The host believes that track and field has become more inclusive and diverse, with various countries competing and forming friendships. The host emphasizes that track and field is a sport where no race is considered better, as multiple races have won medals. The impact of Owens' achievements is acknowledged, as he paved the way for diversity in the sport. Hello everyone, my name is John and today this is episode 2 the podcast and we're going to be talking about Race and sport and I'm gonna start off Talking about track and field and I'm going to start off by talking about Jesse Owens Jesse Owens is one of the most known or you could say best track and field runners. There was a history he won four gold medals not only in long jump, but in running events, too and In 1936 there was a heavy discrimination towards people of color but Jesse Owens and his team travels to Berlin and With him winning the gold medal and the Olympics showed that it's possible and it inspired me people from his hometown and other parts of the world and during this 1936 Gold medal run he had he met a former German long jumper name I don't know if his name was like Luz Long, but he passed away and once he passed away that's when track and field really became more diverse and allowed other countries to Participate in track and field to showcase what they can also do and then after Jesse Owens a black male and Luz Long the German soldier Became the best of friends this showed that other countries can also participate without worrying about discrimination and Also potentially build a relationship with other countries and make the sport become a worldwide thing Compared to back then I feel like track and field has gotten a lot better because it doesn't matter how you look It doesn't matter how tall you are how big you are how short you are All that matters is that you can run or you can throw or whatever thing you're in so now I feel like track and field is An ongoing work of just becoming more and more great because you have all these different countries around the world You have United States. You have Japan France Egypt, Jamaica all those different countries competing showcasing what they can do and I feel like this plays a major role society and it's just It's good for our world to see like everybody compete and it brings a lot of You know, like joy and just watching track and field is just really fun to see all these different countries just Compete but not only is it about them competing. They also get friendships out of this They also meet people they never met before and I feel like it's just a great thing to you know See all these different countries compete with each other and I feel like track and field is one of those sports where you can't say that one race is better than the other race or you know, one race is faster than this race because it's been proven many of times that Multiple races have won gold medals multiple races have won silver medals So it's not one of those sports where you can just pick out a race and say this race is better And that's the thing I like about track and field. It's so diverse It's so like, you know, everyone has a chance to win because Everybody competes or by trains a different way So that's why it's good for all these different countries to come out and showcase what they can do Let's see what country can take home the gold medal after seeing how worldwide track is today I just want to say that I think it's not possible without the man Jesse Owens because of the impact he made, you know being an African American Going against the Germans while Hitler was, uh, you know in charge and you know him just showing that he can win For gold medals and showing that he can compete with everyone else and that really is what started, you know Making everything more diverse and adding all these different countries But I think all you guys are listening to the podcast and we'll be back in episode 3
