The podcast episode discusses the topic of disability in sports, highlighting how the game of sports is often not designed for people with disabilities. The story of a basketball player named Hans Hansel Emanuel is shared, who overcame the challenge of playing with one arm and inspired others through his determination and success in high school. Despite the initial struggle and doubts, he changed his mindset and proved that disabilities don't have to limit one's abilities. The hope is that he will make it to the NBA and continue to inspire others. The overall message is that disabilities can be overcome with the right mindset and determination. Hi my name is John and this is the fourth episode of the podcast and the final one. I hope everybody enjoyed you know the past three and hope whoever watches this one enjoys this one. But for this week I'm going to talk about disability and sport and I really want to talk about a story but I'll get into it a little bit later. But disability and sport is a major thing that you know is overlooked a lot of the time because the game of sports is usually not made for people with disabilities. So what I mean by that is when the game of basketball was made or the game of football was made or like tennis, golf everything they weren't focused on kids or adults with disabilities. So for them to overcome that and to find ways to include you know people with disability in the sports was just you know an amazing act that happened. You know it's it's hard for some kids to play sports with disabilities because you know disability is a wide range. It could be something mental or it could be something physical. You know it could be you know missing a piece of the body some body parts whatever. You know it could be some mental like disorder. So when you talk about disability there's a wide spectrum of you know meanings but there's a story I want to talk about a player named Hans Hansel Emanuel. He just graduated high school. He's playing the next four season at Northwestern University. He is a player with one arm and you know many people think since he has one arm he can't play basketball but he overcame that challenge all during high school. So he lost his left arm when he was just six years old. He fell up under a concrete wall and the wall was laying on his arm for two plus hours. So after that there was like nothing they could do for his arm so they had to amputate it. He talked about how like after that he didn't want to do anything. He wanted to sit aside and he didn't even want to play sports but he really looked up to LeBron James. He was just talking about how he couldn't tie his shoes. He couldn't drink anything and this is like years down the line after the situation. But um you know something sparked into him and he started playing basketball and he went viral all throughout high school because he was dominating like he was just dominating some of the best stars and he only has one arm. So that just put him on the map like his mindset completely changed like he knew he had what it took to overcome that challenge and that's really inspirational because he inspired a lot of kids. He inspired so many people so many adults that you know maybe the same thing happened and they thought they couldn't do it but he did it. I'm sorry about that but um you know he overcame that challenge. He dominated high school showed everybody that you know he could still play one arm and his dream is to get to the NBA. So right now he is playing at Northwestern University and you know his story is just inspirational because it's like you know people think disabilities stop people from doing what they want to do and it doesn't. It's you know you can get past any challenge that there is you just have to work towards it and that's what he did and that's why I find his story really inspiring but it's just the fact that you know it happened at a young age and he changed his whole mindset around to prove everybody that you know even if you have a disability you can overcome anything and you can do anything you want and hopefully one day he makes it to the NBA and you know can show everyone that disabilities don't stop you from doing what you want to do. It's just a mindset. Your mindset has to change and you know yeah I feel like he really inspired a lot of people and showed that you know disability is just a it's just something that you can overcome and don't let it stop you from you know your dreams don't let it hold you back and that's really all I wanted to talk about this podcast with that story because it's very inspiring but I thank you guys for listening to all the other podcasts and I hope you guys enjoy this one and we are out.
